This gas station is located in St. Peter, off the 169 highway. It has a car wash, and if you don't…read morelike the food choices offered, McDonald's is across the street. Restrooms are decent, not super clean but adequate. The convenience store itself is clean. I bought 2 Cokes on sale, didn't choose the usual energy drinks. Self checkout is available but I bypassed this and went straight to the clerk.

These days, "cheap gas" is an oxymoron. But at least in parts of the Midwest, ethanol blends…read morereduce the pain a little bit, to the point that premium unleaded is cheaper than regular. And when my Dad owned an operated a gas station in Iowa (Brink Oil Company - Estherville Iowa) growing up, 35 cents a gallon (or gas war pricing at 19 cents) was a clear memory. Question: Why is gasoline still priced with 9/10 of a cent added on? I share my Dad's love of driving and tend to fill up at the last minute. My friend Bob Merrill reminds me of the time that we ran out just a few miles short of Fairmont MN, but my favorite memory was gliding in an Omaha-area gas station just as the fuel-staved engine cut out. Gayle won't put up with that nonsense, so I'm usually looking to fill up when the needle drifts a little below half. On our recent trip back to the Twin Cities (from Spirit Lake), I chose this Speedway because it was time, and my current bias is that larger independent chains (like Speedway, Maverick, or Kwik Star) might be cheaper or at least have clean restrooms and nice selections at their Mini-Mart. And this Speedway delivered on all cylinders. In this case, it also turned out that the next gas station down the road (or at least visible from the highway) was at least a few miles away. Maybe something cheaper would have come up, but in the end, a gas station is basically a gas station, especially when they're open when you need them. I may be charging up my next car (here or elsewhere), but for legacy reasons alone, these places will be around a good deal longer.

These people are heroes! Every one at the shop! My fiancé and I were on a road trip in our van…read moreand the van got damaged when I pulled out of a gas station without looking. The damage was significant enough that we couldn't continue driving the van. We stopped at Mikes and they fixed the van in under an hour and DIDN"T CHARGE US!! What? That's right. These people were so kind and selfless. It made our day and restored any doubts we had in humanity. We owe them. These are truly great people and heroes in our book. Please SUPPORT this business in any way you can. Next time we are in town we may stop by just to say hello! Thank you again!!

A couple days ago, my son got a flat tire right across from Mikes Countryside body shop. He called…read moreme to pick him up. When I got there Luke Weber and another guy were there talking to my son. He told my son to pull the car into their lot so no one would get hit on the road. He then looked at the tire and asked if we had a spare tire. We did but IT was flat. He suggested we call Shorty and see if he had any tires the size I needed. He didn't, but they would be in there tomorrow. Luke then went a got a jack and took of the flat and had the flat spare filled with air, and put it on for us so we could at least get home. I offered Luke some money and he refused and said he was glad he could help. I was thinking that if Mike's Countryside employees treat people who weren't even their customers that good, can you imagine how well they'd treat their customers!!! Thanks Luke Weber and Mike's Countryside!! Becki :)
