Regular customer here. I came into the Tacoma 38th location to purchase my usual protein shakes for…read moremyself and husband and Ostrim, protein sticks I buy often. The display box clearly showed a price sticker of $19.99, but at checkout I was told the price was now $25 because the system was updated. Price changes happen, but the dismissive attitude and rude response when I politely questioned the discrepancy was disappointing and unnecessary. Customer service and professionalism still matter. Unfortunately, after this interaction, I won't be returning to this location or any of them if it's owned by the same owner. The date of this interaction was Friday, May 22nd around 7:30 PM.

Now, truth be told, I don't usually drink smoothies. I should. I just don't. Forgive me. I almost didn't order this one, but I did. YAY! THIS WAS FANTASTIC! Add the ginger, you will thank me. The caffeine is up to you but after helping with a rather large (and delightful) event the night before I really, really, really needed the caffeine, just saying... This gorgeous drink was perfectly blended. It was perfectly yummy. It was...well, just pretty dang perfect! Big fan! Big fan!

After that I would only visit sparingly, looking for things that were either limited or out of stock at the closest Whole Foods. As of this year, I've made it a staple spot for my vegan and vegetarian options. I've been told that they have mostly organic and fresh produce, which I'm looking forward to checking out in the near future. On my most recent trip, I connected with their deli and hot bar, which is small but not lacking in options. The salad bar has a very well-seasoned balsamic tofu, which is my favorite. I've also purchased some of their Seitan options in the frozen food area that's decent. Overall, I truly love this place. It comes equipped with a decent-sized deli dining area / small shop complete with WiFi services in the back. There you can hang out, eat, or indulge in friendly conversations. The customers, deli, produce, and cashier clerks all come together to create a uniquely neighborhood, friendly atmosphere.

It's not exactly cheap but was SO satisfying with that FRESH egg. It hasn't looked right lately and I didn't get one. Finally I straight asked the clerk if they were using processed liquid eggs now and she said yes. You have got to be kidding me? The whole attraction was the REAL EGG. Tastes like ass when you use liquid commercially processed eggs. It is NOT the same. That's why McDs sells so many Egg McMuffins cuz it has a real eggs. Marlenes is really beginning to suck on a lot of fronts. I did get a grab-and-go of garlic salmon and beef meatloaf which were good. I come for the house made food. If I want crap in a can I can get it at Whole Foods and at least they still have real eggs.

However, in times of the Covid-19 Plague, this is one of the only business in town that seem to be taking the epidemic straight seriously. They limit shoppers to 3 at a time in store.. They have gloves.. some masks... ropes keep people away from counter and display cases.. they have lots of hand sanitizer.. signs ask shoppers not to touch anything.. This is the only business in town where I feel kinda safe... Wont go anyplace else. As a bonus, Tuesday and Thursday are 20% off sale days Stay safe.. Stay home.. Wash hands...

Customers seeking peace and a respectful, private experience are instead met with invasive, boundary-crossing questions. When I explicitly refused to disclose my personal plans to an associate ringing me up, they used my shutdown of "no plans" as an invitation to press harder--behavior directly enabled by a manager who dismissed my concerns via email as nothing more than the staff's "many communication styles." It is insulting to be told by this store's manager that I should have to police their employees' behavior by announcing when I am "not in the mood for conversation" just to be left alone. When I pushed back on this toxic excuse, management simply ghosted me, proving they have no interest in professional standards. I am not here to train your staff on basic social decency, nor should any customer have to sacrifice their dignity just to make a purchase. I will be happily driving an extra five minutes to a store with class that respects its patrons; if you value your peace, dignity and privacy, I suggest you do the same. (BTW, The store at this address is called Local Roots when currently searching "cannabis" on Google locally, with signage on the building that reflects it's the current name)
