Kunz Stadium has become an improved facility in the last few years. Having spent my undergrad and grad years at UB, both as a member of the marching band and then as the Graduate Assistant, I can attest that this field was once a pain in the butt to use. More recently, the university invested money to install permanent stadium lighting here which has been a huge improvement from the mid-2000's when we had to bring in our own flood lights to use the facility at night.
Though this field is a great facility for the marching band, it's also been great for club sport practices and individuals looking to use the track (or bleacher stairs) for a workout. The stadium lights are turned off at 10 or 10:30pm nightly and you really don't want to be there when the switch is flipped. It is pitch dark there which lends itself to both being scary and unsafe.
If you're looking for a safe track to run, this is a great facility. I believe reserving the field itself is for UB affiliates only but walking or running the track is possible at really any time. Note also that there are 2 super nasty port-a-potties on premises if you do need to use a toilet while here. read more
