The little kid in me had so much fun playing on the swing. Most importantly, this is one of the few places in Switzerland that actually has AC!!! So if the heat wave hits, and you need to cool off, come here! Took one star from them because there was a military related tent displaying old documentary, except the display has fresh red paint that's not dry. A few tips and tricks for those visiting: They ask you leave your backpacks and purses downstairs in the provided lockers. The elevator system isn't great, and will always stop at the lobby, no matter what you push, so it's a time consuming process to use it. The restrooms look like they should be pull doors, but they're actually push. It's the oddest thing and the honey and I were both tripped up by it. Overall, we both really enjoyed the museum, much more than the famous Prado, and would highly recommend stopping in if you're visiting Zurich, especially if it happens to be a Wednesday.

On a Tuesday morning, it was pretty quiet without schoolkids or large groups. There was nothing distracting me from enjoying the art. The exhibit of existentialist Bernard Buffet works was magnificent with a number of his pieces. Andy Warhol considered Buffet the "last great artist of Paris." Beyond that, Cy Twombly, Edgar Degas. Jean-Baptiste Camille Corot, Paul Cézanne, Vincent Van Gogh (I've never seen "Marguerite Gachet at the Piano" before and the "Self-Portrait with a Japanese Print" was amazing) , Claude Monet, Piet Mondrian, Marc Chagall, Paul Klee, Henri Matisse (paintings *and* sculpture!), Alexej Von Jawlensky's "Self-portrait") and more. What museum would be complete without works by Pablo Picasso and Alexander Calder and Salvador Dali? So much to see, so much to enjoy, so much to appreciate. It is one of the greatest art museums in Switzerland and I had a tremendous visit. Gift shop has lots to purchase but the prices for even the smallest prints are very high. It was really breathtaking to walk into a gallery and see the large Monet painting "The Water Lily Pond" hanging on a full wall; such a beautiful surprise. His "Water Lilies" was also in the same gallery. Definitely worth the visit and there's a discount offered (50%) when you present your BaselCard, which is a tourist card you can get for free from your hotel. 13.50 CHF (Swiss francs) at the time I went (November, 2023).

When I purchased my ticket the staff explained that the collection is constantly rotating so I may not be able to see my favorite works by Paul Klee, but I definitely discovered new artwork by him and also other artists in circle. There was an incredible collection of drawings by Paul Klee and an audio visual display. They do have guided tours and they even have one in English. There are free documetary films playing, usually on either Klee or one of his contemporaries. The museum is beautifully situated and you can take some wonderful photographs of the surrounding mountains and also see a great view of Bern. I walked to the museum and it's a bit of a hike uphill but it's so pretty because you pass by various rivers and residential area. I learned a lot about Klee's life, his contemporaries and also his struggles during the 1930s. Definitely a must see if you want to visit the best museum in Bern. My only gripe is that if you don't read German It is difficult to decipher all the information on the walls but you can rent an audio guide and listen to it in English and other languages. I wish that there had been free information on the walls regarding the artwork in French or Italian (2 other official Swiss languages) because I do speak those languages. There's a wonderful children's center in the museum which looks really fun. Also some colorful seating areas and a very good café.
