Called and reserved a table here without much of a problem -- they speak enough English to understand tourists which really helps. (Side note, in Dresden, as well as many other towns in Germany, you absolutely need reservations, otherwise, generally restaurants will not be able to accommodate you. This is from personal experience)
We ordered the black pudding plate, the Dresdner Sauerbraten (some kind of stewed beef cut into thick slices served with sauced red cabbage) and finished with the Quarkkeulchen dessert (fried potato/cheese/flour dough served with applesauce).
Everything was really tasty and definitely very unique (from the perspective of someone living in the US, these are not dishes you find easily). As a heads up to anyone considering visiting this place, THE PORTIONS ARE HUGE. Two dishes could easily feed four people, and we were fairly tired/hungry from a hiking trip to Saxon Switzerland right before. We eventually gave up eating the various potato and cabbage variants on the plate and just focused on finishing the proteins. I had to ask them to cut the portion of the Quarkkeulchen dessert down to a small portion because we were so full (which they graciously accommodated after a bit of back and forth). Big, thick and hearty is how I would describe the food here. It's a good thing, but just know what you're in for.
The building is an old antiques shop and there are tons of cool things to check out while you're waiting for your food or after you've finished your meal. House was packed all night with locals. read more
