Please read the reviews. Why this place is open I have no idea. Teriyaki Chicken was dryer than a Popeyes biscuit. The gyoza has a bizarre sauce that is spicy and sour. Just put that stuff in the side. It really kills the gyoza. The sushi rice is also strange in taste. Not sweet but very heavy in the rice vinegar they use. I wonder if what I had was a bad batch. The salmon in both my McCallen roll, and Philly roll were off color and super fishy in taste. If you ever had bad fish, it's that type of fishy taste. Please take the time to visit another spot for sushi. Spent 100$ just to not eat and go get tacos instead. Love sushi, and all things Asian... but this ain't it. The wait staff was horrible . They spent the majority of their time looking at their phones, and hanging together at the sushi bar in the back . The entertainment was free, watching 2 of them bus a table, while they were stoned . When one waitress wiped a table she just wiped all the food debris and dirty napkins onto the floor under the table . Food was less than fair . The kumori rice was so salty. I had 12 spicy mayo containers ordered yet there was only 6 in my bag--I ask them for the other 6 and they provided them--they did this the last time. I get home and the spicy mayo containers are halfway filled. It's clear that whoever is in charge of the service at the kumori on ware (can't speak to the other kumoris) is trying to squeeze as much profit without caring about the quality of the food or the service--maybe to pay for their renovations?--who knows. Same story about a year and a half ago, the last time we ate here. Needless to say we won't be coming back-- spend way less money at Kurai and the food tastes better!! read more

I travel for work and eat all over the world. I was walking around and came across Kumori Sushi. I have special sushi components that I eat. The staff was very welcoming and accommodating. They made my sushi to order and with perfection. The prices are very reasonable. I even ordered a second order to take with me. This restaurant is very clean and has an upbeat environment. When I signed on to do this review I was shocked to see only 3.1 stars. I believe this place deserves 5 stars. I highly recommended this place and will 100% be back when in town. IF I COULD GIVE THIS PLACE 0 STARS I WOULD!!! My Friend was charged incorrectly by the to-go girl and when I asked to see my order she walked away. He ended up waiting for her to come back and she eventually came back with order. He opened the order and was missing a rice. When He asked to speak to the manager he was being very difficult. He did not want to refund the money or give back the correct order. He then said that he was banned from ever ordering at Kumori Ware. Super disrespectful and unprofessional. Wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. I've heard of other people having similar experiences with this manager. He needs to be fired ASAP. read more

Five stars for the awesome lack of customer service, I was told that it was going to be a 25/30 minute wait...so I checked with my husband if it was fine (since it was hot n humid outside) he said fine..... we walked around to kill time... no call . We took our service elsewhere. Eaten here many times but today was the worse The yakimeshi rice was so overheated and well oiled that one of the chop sticks slipped and broke My Mcallen roll was squished that I could not separate mcallen from pharr or edinburg. My wife's roll was supposed to have masago or fish eggs - you know the small orange spheres- on top of the roll. The rolls fall apart as you pick them up. Rice had to be a day old. Not fresh. Do yourself a favor go somewhere else. Horrible

Sushi was not filled all the way, crunchy top was not crunchy instead was soggy. Very little amount in sauce containers. Miso soup had no tofu, no utensils, no napkins. I use to really enjoy Kumori however it has been several disappointments as of lately. I think it's safe to say I'm going elsewhere for sushi moving forward. read more

Been a costumer for years here with my family, and are fluent regulars - but today so far was the worst service ever. To begin the server had ZERO knowledge or simply, wasn't properly trained, and just thrown on the floor. Asked her for a wine list and brought out a drink mix with no wines. After she brings out the wine list I ask her for a Sauv Blanc, which she had no idea what that was and asked me to spell it( when they only had one on the list). We put in some apps in a wine, and never received our miso soups. Until after our apps and food came out( which she came back to take the order 2 different times and still didn't bring out with the rest of everyone else food). I ordered a Poke Bowl which is off the menu but keeps popping out of promotional Instagram ads. Which I have asked about before and the previous server knew what it was. They came out with the food just missing mine - which she asked what I had ordered again" Tuna Poke Bowl". Which I just asked to cancel the order since everyone was eating already. First time going to kumori, atmosphere was nice pretty chill environment got myself a drink even though it was 2 p m couldnt resist.Must say drink was super delicious & gave me a nice buzz. Sister and husband ordered sushi rolls, dont know the name of the ones her husband got but they both seemed to love them and said they where delicioius.Sister ordered rock shrimp rolls and although very tasty she said they where a bit cloying better if shared in group and not as a main meal. As for me i got the BEEF TEPPANYAKI Beef tenderloin teppanyaki with mixed vegetables, chicken skewer and fried rice, super delicious even the vegtables which is saying something didnt leave a single thing on my plate. Well this place was great! Our server was very attentive and always made sure we were not missing anything. Me and my fiancé went here for dinner and it sure didn't disappoint. We had the skinny roll with the spicy mayo and the sweet sauce which are great when you combine them with your sushi. I love how they always serve some excellent starter soups which have a great taste. I also like that it's a very relaxing place to eat at this might be because of the background music that they usually have. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a good spot to eat some good sushi they are also are very quick to serve you which makes it a great spot to eat at during your lunch breaks! read more

I have been here a few times and enjoyed in the past. However I struggle to find many rolls on menu that don't offer crab. Crab is one thing, but imitation crab 'kanikama' is particularly gross. It's on many items and a mark of a menu that needs to be revamped. Be aware of the miso soup bowls one is required to drink from and servers that put their hands fingers around the drinking edge. One of the many problem with this place is that main sushi chef with all the tattoos. He has a team that he trains to make quantity over quality. If you ask for a modification for a roll, he will look for you in the restaurant and give you a death stare. Plus, no one else cares about customer service there. read more

I dined in at Kumori with my mom and we had a terrible experience (to say the least). I feel like if you're a fan of this place, you've never really had good sushi cause every time I end up here it is always bad. Never fresh, bad quality, poorly made, and horrible customer service. Most recently, I went to have dinner with my mom and first and foremost, the server was extremely forgetful, got our order wrong and served us spoiled ginger. We asked to speak to a manager because not only did our order come out wrong and not only had we eaten spoiled ginger, one of the rolls we had ordered had STALE crunchy toppings so at this point we were really frustrated. Well, once we informed the server that we wanted to speak with the manager (more than once), she never came so I had to get up and go find her. This is just comical at this point. I informed her of everything that had happened and when I told her that the ginger was spoiled, she blatantly disagreed and challenged me on my accusation instead of apologizing for the inconvenience and asking how she could accommodate a paying customer like a true professional restaurant manager. I guess her level of professionalism, or lack there of, is the reason why she's a manager at a shitty sushi restaurant. Anyway, we got our food discounted which was the only positive outcome. Best sushi in the RGV. My favorite rolls are ebi crunch and cosmos roll. I usually start my meal with fried calamari. The calamari is a tad spicy and taste great. Parking close to the restaurant can be a problem during busy hours but there is plenty of parking around the area. Staff is usually pretty nice and friendly and service is quick from my experience. I usually have the my rolls with their eel sauce which makes the rolls extra tasty. read more

First impression walking in was the sour smell of a dirty bar and a generally loud crowd dining in. Menu is large and wasn't very helpful in explaining that some hibachi doesn't come with fried rice. I ordered the ribeye hibachi and received an over done steak, whole, and some very large steam veggies. Flavor was terrible, and reminiscent of a frozen microwave meal. Fried rice was extra, and sadly even that was dry and difficult to eat. Only reason I gave it 2 stars is that the service was fair. read more

Great service. My hand grenade appetizer was delicious. The soup was tasty. I didn't have any tofu in mine though. It warmed us all up because it was actually cold that night. I loved the pink sauce so much! I should have gotten an extra order of it with my meal. I got the chef special. The fish was cooked well and had nice seasoning. I loved to put the pink sauce on it too. The calamari was just a bit over cooked. I ordered the steamed rice instead of the fried rice because that's my favorite. This place was my favorite for sushi for a long long time, actually since it first opened its doors to the public. When management changed, the service went down the drain; before when a complain was made of the quality or quantity of food served it was approached and taken care of swiftly; after some changes to this place especially from manager down, no complains were heard or taken seriously and no refunds were issued even if the item served was the wrong item or the wrong description. It's one of the best restaurants I've been in since my husband and I are living here in Texas. What I don't like about this place is that the orders takes too long. Almost 25-30mins of waiting. I don't know why but they do that all the time. I am actually considering the days that we go in there. Maybe that's one of the reasons why they take too long. This establishment had been one of the cornerstones of Sushi and quality of Japanese food in the McAllen area for years. Recently I thought it would be nice to have a nice dinner with my husband at kumori for a introduction of what places we have in south Texas since we recently moved here from Washington State. Our experience was horrible beyond belief. Having food allergies my husband and I know our protocols when going out especially at a sushi place. We ordered 4 rolls and specified to not put any mayo or artificial crab in our food. We even asked if there was any egg in the tempura batter so we know what rolls to order. The service was pleasant and even the host was very friendly but when it came to our food it was jus embarrassing. Our waiter came to our table 4 times to double check on us and what our allergies were and such but after waiting 1 hour and finally getting our food we were shocked that all the rolls we got were just sushi rice with salmon in the middle with nothing else. We ordered the simplest of simple sushi, a Philadelphia, a twin salmon, a atomic and one another which was baked and apparently was the real reason our food took 1 hour to only get rolls that all were the same.... rice with salmon. We have no idea why they would do this or if they thought our order was some sort of joke. Thankfully I checked my food before leaving and the food was flavorless and disgusting especially the baked one! It had boiled veggies on top of a mushy and overcooked roll. It also seemed other customers were un pleased by the food and the poor waiters even said the chefs did not listen or care about the quality of food. After getting a refund on my sad excuse for sushi, my husband and I left hungry and sadden this place isn't what it used to be. This was such a shame because they also wasted fresh ingredients that could've been an epic meal. RIP Kumori read more
