I try to visit a few types of shops in every city I go to. Head shops are one of them. Kulture was pretty cool. Upon entry I was greeted by the laziest pup ever. He had no F*&ks to give, and just lifted his head and wagged his tail. Charlie and I continued up the stairs to the store where the clerk was busy with one person and we browsed their selection. It wasn't huge but it was enough. I was looking for a scent free bag and a few small things. They had everything I needed right there. In total, I think I spent $50 for a new grinder, a couple of bags, some gummies and that's about it. We chatted with the guy and he threw in 2 $3 CDB honey sticks as a bonus (Way to go man, those sticks were awesome on my flight home.) Would I go back? Sure would. Richmond doesn't offer much in this style of shopping however this place does have a very large selection and friendly staff. Their glass pieces range from $15-$700 (most being a little more expensive then you'd want to pay) but they are all good quality. If you are looking for something in particular I would check here first, if they don't have it there are still other options in the city... but this is my favorite. read more

This store is mostly used to warehouse their stock and is no longer their "main" location. However it is still worth a visit if you are in the area and looking for something fast. The store is two stories. The top floor being the "head shop" area and the bottom level being a glass blowing studio. When the artist are there it is pretty neat to watch them to their work. The reason this place only gets 3 stars is 1) it's mostly intended as a ware house 2) their selection is relatively small 3) the prices on some of the pieces can be too high. However, if you take you time and work with the employee and literally ask the price on every piece you interested in you will find a good deal (don't feel uncomfortable it's his job to help you). It's best if you go in there knowing what you want and do a little bit of research before hand. I've heard horror stories of people getting terribly ripped of at various Kulture locations but I have no first hand experience of this. There were times in my life when I was well-paid and bought some amazingly complicated sick pieces here, but they still serve my needs as someone with a lot LESS money these days. Loyal customer here since 2001. Evan & Jimmy are always around, and Kulture not only survived the hurricanes and breakins but came back stronger each time. Excellent glass selection. Clothing could be expanded (LOVED the harikari graphic tee last December!) and quality raised on the vintage selections. The highly knowledgeable staff are aware of each customer in the store and make sure to ask if they need assistance. They're very conscientious in their application of legal regulations. There are plenty of health-conscious product available. Kulture not only markets local art, music, and clothing, they hold regular community bowling activities and support the thriving local arts scene. I was wandering around the area with a friend and we stopped in the Kulture just to look around. They actually had an ejuice that we hadn't heard of: Peanut Butter & Jesus. Haven't tried it yet but it was a good buy. The staff was very nice and helpful. read more

Definitely the premium glass distributor in town! These guys know their stuff and only stock pieces they'd be proud to own themselves. Expect to pay market price (read: expensive) for name brands, as well as exclusive works by master independent artisans. When looking for that dream RooR, Illa, toro, syn, art piece, or accessory (the selection percolators alone will blow your mind!), there is no business that competes in the central Virginia area. That's not even taking into consideration their very cool downstairs clothing section either! The only thing that keeps them from a 5 rating is the the strange vibe i get from the employees half the time I shop. I've been somewhat short of expendable income over the past year or so, so sometimes I'll stop by just to browse for my next piece worth saving up for. During these times it's as if I'm treated like a total goober by whoever happens to be behind the counter. Let me start off by saying that within the past months, sense last summer, I have received alright service. I have even bought two pipes (syn and custom bubbler) plus tons accessories. So i'm an avid customer and usually spend money when I do come. That being said almost every past experience before recently I have had going to your store wasn't what I expected from a counter culture glass pipe and clothing store. In fact my usual trips down there resulted in me looking at another head shop in Richmond, or ordering online. I can understand the fact that it is a counter culture store, where the underlying theme let it be wanted or unwanted is paraphernalia and you probably get a lot of people just walk in walk out and isn't till the 10th time till someone buys. Which might be why I have to show some money before I get any real assistance rather than having both the sale associates behind the counter just staring at me. That and when I come in you guys stare down my girlfriend's shirt. Which bothers me a lil, but I tend to do it now and then so I understand the compelling nature of it. Please don't take this as all hate, cause kulture, I do have some love you. I just don't feel like it's coming back to me when I go there. read more
