Kuku specializes in East Indian cuisine. Their veggie samosas are delicious, and I recently tried the Chana Bhatura, it was incredibly tasty! While the space is quite small and primarily for takeout, they do have some high chairs and a bar-like area if you want to dine in. Don't miss out on their selection of Indian sweets, too. I'm so happy the washing machine at my apartment broke down so I had to come to nearby laundromat, because I ended up at Kuku's. While it's mainly a take-away format, it gets 5 stars for ambiance because the owners are so friendly and warm. The food is deeeeelicious- Paneer springrolls dipped in sweet chutney whaaat?! My new favourite comfort food! You should also know that they have a whole array of Indian sweets, something I haven't come across on Van Isle until now. Hi Everyone! This review is really about the food truck "Kukus On The Run". They were parked near the cruise ship docks last Monday evening (9/15/25). The family who owns/runs this business is incredibly friendly and accommodating. Their Samosas were excellent as others have reviewed. I wanted to comment on a different item...Poutine. Their regular Poutine with gravy was outstanding. This was actually better than some of the Poutine I have had in Montreal. It's all in the gravy. Wow. They also offered a Poutine with chicken and curry that was unlike any Poutine I have ever had. We couldn't decide which of the different Poutines that we liked best as both were unique enough to be two completely different dishes. The sad news is that the local Poutine was better than some of the food we had on the cruise ship. It's too bad that everyone returning from town didn't stop for a bite of this unique Poutine. We went here to get a snack while doing laundry down the street. Ordered a couple of samosas and some spring rolls. The owner engaged us in conversation and we indicated that we had only ordered a snack. He brought us a sample plate of 4 different dishes that they prepared. They were all delicious. My only complaint about Kukus is that they were closed so long after a car plowed into their store. They have the best samosas and pakoras. Staff is friendly and fast. Great value for tasty food. I was pleasantly surprised the first time I tried Kuku's, especially with some of the negative things I've read. The food was abundant, cheap, and flavourful, though the sauce of the chana masala has a vomit-like colour. At first glance, it seemed as if it could be a decent option for Indian food for a third of the price of any other place in town. However, our second Kuku's order failed. The chana masala still looked like vomit, but it lacked the flavour it had previously. Our naan was lukewarm and gummy (it was warm and fresh for our previous order). And we tried the Malai Kofta this time and it just tasted like mush. It's worth paying three timees the price to go to Amrikko's or Sizzling Tandoor. read more

Surprising good. Not necessarily "fine" food, as advertised. Ordered their 'dinner for 2' takeout. I don't suggest eating in, little room except a bank of counter seats at the window, which affords no view due to restaurant advertising, and not clean looking. Ok, so my partner says its three star takeout: although the "butter chicken" is not - it's a coconut tomato sauce curry, savoury and mild sweet, not spicy. It has good balance of cubed chicken. Looks like tofu, but we are certain it's chicken cubed from Sysco or other company. Minus a star there. Sounds questionable, but it's actually good. Basmati rice good and cooked near perfect. Naan bread warm, soft with grill or bake marks. Samosas with potato/veg filling appear homemade, crisp crust, soft veg, mild flavour, that comes with a mystery liquid sauce, that was mild, flavourful. Gulab Jamun for dessert was acceptable. For $18.95 plus tax, for take-out, it's more expensive than fast food, but a nice change for take home, and good enough we may order again sometime. For those that want authentic or delicious Indian food, this is the last place to order from . Those that think that they serve authentic Indian are sorely mistaken. They serve low budget, bulk Indian food to gullible tourists and clueless white people that want to be hip by ordering something other than pizza for a party. The butter chicken sauce is literally canned tomato sauce with sugar and some kind of cheap thickener. The rice is devoid of almost any spices and the papadums are made long in advance with dirty oil. Fairly pedestrian but authentic Indian food. Their customers seem to be mostly of Indian descent, to be frank, most of them getting take-out, so I take this as a certification of both authenticity and quality. Stopped by for dine-in, which means sitting at a cluttered window counter, but the food was pretty decent so I didn't mind. About a year ago my new boyfriend decided to order Indian food and considering they had coupons in the mail he thought we could get a good deal, wrong! All he got was a toilet full of what he had eaten, oily, watery butter chicken, and dry, cold, flavorless pakoras. Very, Very Disappointed. I lived in Surrey for about 7 years before moving back to Victoria.The Indian food along the Scott Rd corridor was awesome and we would get these huge samosas for $0.50 each!!!! everywhere!!!! And the sweet shops were incredible. So we went to try Kuku's the other day and ordered 6 samosas and some of the sweets. So the samosas were 1.50 each and were overcooked(almost burned along the edges) and the filling was disappointing, big chunks of potato and not enough sauce. 1st disappointment. We tried the sweets when we got home and they were not very good at all some were obviously old and very little taste. 2nd disappointment. I will NOT be recommending this place to tourists or friends. Definitely not what I expected from basically the only Indian restaurant in Victoria. we will definitely not be going back anytime soon unless the quality of the food changes drastically. I guess I will be making my weekly trip to Surrey for Samosas, its worth it for the quality and prices & smiling friendly faces. read more

Ran into a Kuku's worker at the wholesale grocery store. Or, more accurately, he ran into me. He hit my car with his flatdeck full of groceries, then just carried on straight to the Kuku's van and loaded up, not noticing that I was actually sitting in the car. My car was parked and off. If this is any indication of the type of service I can expect from Kuku's or their drivers, I will never be a customer there. The food is terrible. We're fairly sure they don't make anything here themselves - it's all reheated frozen foods. The texture of most of the dishes suggest they have been frozen for too long - some of them might have been outright freezer burned. Because they aren't doing anything here, you have no choice of spice level, which seems set to medium. We ordered out online, and they forgot the naan. Go to a grocery store and buy frozen Indian meals there and you'll get a cheaper and better tasting meal. read more

Although the inside storefront seems a little Spartan, you would be denying yourself a rare treat if you passed this Indian Take out and delivery up based on its outward appearance. Inexpensive and amazingly well proportioned servings; great lunch box specials; both omnivore and vegetarian menu items. If you are spoiled for choice, they have complete dinner specials that cover appetizers to dessert. Their menu is diverse, their portions huge and in my experience the most inexpensive Indian food in town. Kuku's is the best value for money and tastiest Indian food in Victoria. read more

Always enjoy their food. I've had several different dishes from here and haven't had one leave a sour taste in my mouth yet. Their curry will sweat out even the most stubborn cold. I will never go back to this restaurant. We ordered two different standard Indian dishes (shahi paneer, malai kofta) and were informed (incorrectly) that they have the same sauce. This is not true. However, when the food did arrive (on the counter; there are no actual tables), the sauces in each dish were identical, but incorrect for either. They looked and tasted as if they were made primarily with ketchup. In addition, the entire meal was very, very greasy. They are mainly a take-out or pick up place (with a small area for sitting if you really wanted to). We only had butter chicken and spinach saag (cheese curds) and I would say the food was good and are up to par with the good Indian restaurants in Vancouver. The price is reasonable for the quantity you get. The food is prepared ahead of time but it tasted fresh when my husband picked it up and brought it back to our hotel. However, rice is a bit pricey compared to the dishes and there is a delivery fee which is why we opted to skip the rice and to pick up. read more

We have had Kuku's takeout over a dozen times now and it has always been excellent--until tonight! The chana masala and curried chicken are usually in a rich, spicy and delicious sauce/gravy. Tonight they were both in a thin, watery broth lacking spice and flavour. The watery broth leaked through the paper bag and onto the carpet in the car. When we opened the curried chicken, there was a scant amount meat on the bottom of the "large" size container filled with broth. We wanted to go back and ask "This is what you get for over $40?", but didn't want to pack that leaky stuff back in the car. I don't know how such a great place could serve a meal such as we had.
