Weinheim is one of my favorite places to visit when we are in the area. Its not as touristy as…read moreHeidelberg but you can get there with the tram from Heidelberg or Mannheim easily. It has an intact medieval city center, a beautiful palace park with a great playground and walking paths through the surrounding hills. This time we came on a September afternoon with the whole family. After a walk in the park and time at the playground, we were all very hungry. There are several restaurants on the main square (Marktplatz) and one of the locals suggested stopping at Diebsloch. We sat outside under large umbrellas and had a great view of the church and the old buildings. The service was pretty good- they gave us two Ikea high chairs for the toddlers be had with us and didn't seem to mind that we stayed a while. Most of the guys got the typical Schnitzel (SchniPoSa) with fries and salad and said it was good. I had Maultaschen, with salad (a Swabian specialty - ravioli filled with ground meat and spices) and a glass of regional white wine. Both were very solid. The only complaint we had were the limited options for vegetarians- they were out of fish that day and there was only an overpriced pasta dish available. The inside is very charming and comfortable, preserving the half timbered walls and sloping rooms of the 500-year-old building. The bathrooms are up a flight of stairs. I could change my son on the little counter but the bigger boy with us had to be changed on the bathroom floor.

Pretty good food. In town for a few days and the local hotel recommended it. Had vet traditional…read moreGerman dishes and of course good beer. The waitress was great and very helpful.

Definitely the best veal schnitzel. OK, now that I have gotten that news out front I have to tell you about the great evening that we had while visiting this restaurant. I love that there is lots of different spaces for you to eat and enjoy drinks. I ordered a flight of beers and I have to say that the dark beer was probably my favorite. It was very very smooth. The Hefeweizen was great, pilsner had a little bit of a bitter finish, and the other option that was in the basket to me was terrible. But different taste and different strokes for different folks. Patrick was the star of the show other than my incredible veal. You would not know he was from the US because his German was on point. He was so kind and genuinely interested in speaking to us. He was very busy, but he made us feel so welcome and took great care of our needs. We speak a little bit of German, but it was great to have someone give us a little more insight on the restaurant, beers, and food. Thank you so much, Patrick! I wish we could have made a return visit, we should have come to this place at the beginning of our trip and circled back. A little bonus info the burger was also delicious. My husband ordered it and it was almost like a juicy meatball. Really thick, delicious tasting ground beef. If you're in the mood for a burger this definitely hits the spot, but my schnitzel was incredible. did I mention my veal schnitzel was incredible ??? Best meal. I had the entire trip. Hands-down, I hope to return someday!

The service was excellent and on time, they always asked us if we needed anything. The restaurant was clean. The beers were excellent. The Spätzel was out of the box with dried crusted onions, not freshly cooked onions. The schnitzel was a little undercooked, but ok. Since the food was a liilte off, I took off one star. Other than the food , everything ever was great.
