We arrived around 8am on a Sunday and stayed until closing at 9:30. The area was full of vendors with apparel, souvenirs, handmade German items, fresh fish, treats, veggies, fruits, and more. At the same time, there are quite a few bad things. The owner/manager is annoying. He is quite rude to his employees and runs around the place as if in his own living room. He doesn't ask you if you like something. He says good, right? I rather decide myself instead of asking to comply with his opinion. Further, I was quite shocked to see how he treats his employees. Not the most professional manager and were he my boss I'd have punched him on a couple of occassions. Further, due to the open kitchen you can watch the interaction of the cooks and service. I was again shocked to see a Spanish sounding cook deriding an African employee who was more bus boy than cook. Definately not politically correct in any way. The tables are also tight and the place can be full, especially on the weekends. Weird combination of people and combined with the service, a bit of a downer as it doesn't really keep you coming back for more unless you're simply there for the seafood as in my case. Long story shortgood seafood and raw oysters if that's your thing. Right next to the fish market so highly likely to be fresh. Everything else needs to be polished quite a bit. Were the service totally to play the game right, this could be a favorite but somehow this restaurant is the perfect example of a locale having to nail the service thing to be good (regardless of how good the food is).

The menu is a bit concervative, as they did not have a large selection. Despite that, everyone seemed to have been enjoying their meals. I got and shared three dishes: Hamburger Krabbensuppe (shrimp soup), Krabbenbratwurst (shrimp sausage), Nordseekrabben (North Sea shrimp sandwich). The Hamburg-special Krabbensuppe was a rich seafood soup with a generous portion of baby shrimp. Served with hot white bread. Grade: B The Krabbenbratwurst was a shrimp sausage. Personally, I didn't get this dish. It was a plain white bread sliced open with a very dried out bratwurst, which tasted like canned turkey. Even the side packet of mustard didn't help this dish. Maybe I am not used to what this should taste like, but I did not enjoy it. Grade: D- Nordseekrabben was a North Sea Shrimp Sandwich. Cute little baby shrimp put in a slide white bun and served with a little piece of lettuce. The shrimp had no flavor (I guess it allows you to taste the freshness?). Again, I didn't get this dish, as it was flavorless and dry. Grade: C- I took a bite out of my table-mates fish and chips dish. The french fries / Chips were nicely cooked, but the fish tasted very oily and fishy. Perhaps it is not the kind of fish that I'm used to eating in the US? Not a fan again. The other dish available that day was a swordfish with potatoes on a bed of greens. Looked amazing and appeared to be the most popular. The Chef creates the menu each day of only 1 or 2 dishes, based on the freshest ingredients available in the markets that day. Brilliant! Simple concept. Simple food. Nothing fancy. Just fantastically prepared super fresh big plates of homey food. Everyone brings out their own flatware/napkin/drink to their tables, picks up their own dish from the counter when ready, and self-busses and drops off their dirty plates when they're done.
