I am not really one to be in the habit of checking in or reviewing fast food places but I occasionally do when it's a location that we can't get around Tampa Bay or that there are only 1 or 2 spots left open close by. I mean, they are generally franchised restaurants so giving one props when they desire it is a good thing or vs versa. We hit the drive through and were greeted by the most jovial upbeat voice you could imagine at a fast food place. We ordered the 12 pack combo with 2 drinks and fries + tots. The silver haired lady at the end of the mic was even sweeter in person. They had our entire order to us in 3 mins. The food was hot and fresh. The burgers were amazing!! I highly suggest you add ketchup to them to go with the mustard. The inside was being wiped down by an employee as we waited for our food to be brought to our car so I'd say it was clean. We decided to go out of our way to get something from Krystal, and what a waste of gas. This was a very disappointing experience. My husband asked for something with no onions (a common request that's typically handled fine at most places) but she had to respond with "I guess I'll try to scrape them off." What a way to clue us in that these aren't being prepared fresh. They had no ice cream, which was a bummer because my daughter was looking forward to it. It was about a ten minute wait in the drive-thru before anyone even took our payment with no one else ahead of us and only one car behind us. Another 5 minutes to get our food. I haven't even gotten to eating the food. For one, one Chik was missing from the order. The Chiks were not bad, and I really liked the Corn Pup. However, the Krystals - I've never seen such a variety in meat color. Some were browned, some were grayed - and the color had nothing to do with the taste. No matter the color, they were all pretty disappointing. The regular and chili cheese pups were awful. I don't typically spit food out, but I definitely spit out my bite with the regular pup. My husband had the chili cheese and said the chili tasted weird and was very chewy. He also had the tots and they tasted off. We chose to dine in but it was too small so we just ordered to go. Staff was nice, place seemed clean. Original Krystal Burger: 1/5, it was very bland. Meat did not look like meat, more like bologna. Bacon Krystal Burger: 1/5, tasted like the original but with bacon. Fries: 3/5, very decent and good fries! Chicken Wings: 3/5, it was good, better when cooled down and there is a little spice but not too overbearing. (11/29/19) Why the front windows are all frosty like they haven't been clean in years? I placed a mobile order for some Krystal burgers and tots and I got short changed when I checked my order as I was missing the tots. This is an order that I paid for on the Krystal app! Then the counter staff claims that she did get my order for the Krystal burgers but not the tots. I showed the counter staff my order but they were falsely claiming going by the receipt and at the same time trying to gyp me out of items that I ordered and paid for but not getting them. I grew up eating Krystals, at least once a week. I love their cheese Krystals and fries. I grew up in Memphis, then moved to Ohio & California, no Krystals. When your flight arrives in the evening and you have to drive an hour and half to get to your destination and its 10pm, and your starving...you stop at Krystal. Well, we stopped at Krystal because I've never experienced a Krystal burger before and it's open late. The good: Drive thru. My krystals were plain with cheese. Burger (slider) reminded me of White Castle. Meat (or what was in between the bun) tasted identical to a slider. If I didn't know we were at Krystal, could not tell the difference. What I did notice was bigger bun. Soft, but more of it compared to WC. I liked the chicken quality more than WC. Fries were decent. The not so good: Guy screwed up our order. We were missing loaded fries and another slider. We were full, so no big loss. No outdoor seating. Menu is smaller. Chicken, double sliders, corn pups. Don't remember all the choices, but I'm a creature of variety and my head wasn't spinning like it usually does with a ton of choices. In this case, this was a good thing. Not a greasy slider like WC can be and sure, sometimes you long for some grease. I prefer white castle just because the bun doesn't take over like Krystal. Wow! Where do I start? If I could give 0 stars, I would. The place looked filthy when I went in. Poor lighting (probably helps to hide the filth).
