Everything was great from start to finish; and by "start" I mean the quick email response to our inquiry about hours and availability. We got an almost instant reply to our email. Within a few minutes, we made a reservation with ease. The restaurant is right on the beach with wall to wall windows overlooking the North Sea. Staff are welcoming and very helpful. That's fine, because, from there, this is heaven! The place is really clean, friendly (and family-friendly). The service is friendly and efficient. Indoors is equally unimpressive, with the kitchen the first thing you'll notice as you wait to be seated. The food is the real reason why you'll come here - unsophisticated, big portions of food that will satisfy the hungriest of visitors. We had mussels, as you should on a fist visit, and were thoroughly delighted. The fries are not exceptional, but with that amount of mussels you may not even need more than a handful of fries. Open everyday until late, I would definitely recommend Kombuis to anyone who is in Oostende. Mussels, fries and a drink will cost you around 25€.
