I've visited this place for over 60 years. It just gets better. Worth the ticket price

This conservatory is a nice spot just outside the city. It's only about a mile from downtown, but is far enough that you should take a car. There are beautiful exhibits and many horticultural beauties inside the 1930s style conservatory. Not only does it have an amazingly diverse plant population, it also has a cute little gift shop with AMAZING prices. Both Krohn merchandise and wares from local vendors give this stop a home like feel and a city view at the same time. Definitely a cheaper spot if you only have a few hours, or a nice location to spend the day. read more

We are so lucky to have a Conservatory of this caliber right here in Cincinnati. We've enjoyed bonsai and orchid exhibits, plus the wonderful Christmas display. It seems like a little world unto itself and we always take visitors when they are here. Such amazing, interesting specimens. read more

The Dinosaur exhibit was amazing. Such detail it the creation of the creatures. Well worth going to see.

This is one of my family's favorite places. Every season the exhibits change. Although Christmas and Easter are my two favorite times to visit, it's wonderful coming at anytime of year. read more

Krohn Conservatory - Beautiful waterfall - Botanical Gardens Near Me - Cincinnati, Ohio

This is a childhood favorite spot to visit. From the waterfall to the desert room. It's all very Indiana Jones for kids, out of the rain. They have done an especially good job of training climbing vines and pruning the large trees to stay within the structure. They have a bonsai collection, a childrens' activity room for educational videos and coloring. There was a bee themed exhibit when I visited, so there were coloring pages with bee drawings for the kids. There are benches scattered throughout to just sit and soak in all that oxygen the plants are pumping out. This would also be a killer event space, and it's available for that. read more

What a great way to spend a chilly Fall/Winter day. The conservatory is set in Eden Park which is a treat in itself especially if you want to grab a picnic or catch the changing autumn leaves. Once you walk into the conservatory itself, I swear the air is fresher and you breathe a little lighter with all those plants pumping out that oxygen. The air is humid and warm in most of the rooms so dress appropriately. But it is a nice change to the chilly air outside. The waterfall is just as I remember it from over a decade ago and it was nice to see many of the same plants and bonsai there still thriving. The koi fish are also a nice touch. The Christmas decorations and electric trains cruising through the winding tracks and plants were fun to see. I really liked the wooden replicas of the Cincinnati landmarks and the hand crafted mini-houses made of gourds. I appreciated the variety of fun items in their small but cute gift shop. Prices were reasonable too - great for picking up a small gift or memento. read more

A true locus of peace, tranquility and other-worldliness in Cincinnati. Not a 'destination' to spend the day, but perhaps the ultimate add-on place to stop by, relax and mediate. I love the smell and the feeling of humidity upon entering the Conservatory. Even the cool details down to the art-deco concrete floor (which I hope they never change) and the mossy stone walls make me feel like I am thousands of miles away. This is the kind of place that you may never visit in a given year, but that warmly welcomes you back from your busy, stressful life. I find it cool that their modernization attempts haven't detracted from the character and vintage architecture of the greenhouses. Solar panels and the butterfly exhibit are tasteful additions to name a few. I wish somehow the greenhouses could be expanded. If you are visiting town this would be a great destination to check out along with a walk through Eden park. It is also a highly recommended location for bringing kids and teaching about relaxation, returning to nature and understanding ecology. read more

Beautiful variety of plants and trees, with a nice splash of fun wood decorations/displays throughout. It's not a huge place, but if you take your time and read the signs, you can get a good 1-2 hours out of your visit. read more

Just an update - sadly, the Krohn is no longer free. It now costs $4.00 for the general admission. It's very nice, and four dollars is not a lot, but I went a week ago and was charged $4.00 for 2 rooms of a greenhouse - the third wing was closed in preparation for the Butterfly Exhibit which is now open. I spent no longer than 10-15 minutes and felt a little cheated. This past weekend my parents went and were told they had to pay the $7.00 (each) for the Butterfly exhibit and there weren't any other options. I get that things get more expensive over time, but it's a disappointing development. I saw some folks walk away with their kids in tow because they were used to free admission. read more

A great Cincinnati treasure. I went here yo the butterfly show and really enjoyed myself. There are tons of things to see, especially if you take your time and really look at the plants. I would highly recommend coming here! read more

Absolutely beautiful and a great way to spend a half or whole day in Cincinnati! This place is huge; the rooms effortlessly guides you from one to the next. Each room had a different "theme" for its environment- rainforest/jungle, bonsai, desert, garden etc. What I really loved was that the jungle and desert rooms were not terribly hot. It was a little on the warm side being late summer and all, but it was still comfortable to walk around and ooh and aah at all the beauty. read more

What an amazing experience. Never been to a place where you see butterflies flying all around you. This years theme is: Butterflies of the Philippines. Exhibit is here until June 21. Tickets are $7 but you can obtain a $1 off coupon online or from a skyline chili restaurant. Here are a couple of tips: 1. Don't bring a jacket with you, it's really hot and humid inside 2. To get a butterfly, slowly swoop them up with the paper that will be provided for you. 3. It's hard to catch them when they are feeding. Find ones that are just resting on a flower/plant 4. I hear they like the smell of orange, so bring an orange peel with you. Have fun! read more

I am head over heels for Krohn. I decided to stop in here as one of my first visits to Cincinnati, and left completely enamored with this place and the experience I had there. We came for the butterfly exhibit and were not the least bit disappointed-- the staff was so knowledgeable and friendly about sharing tips, and we were able to carry a butterfly friend around with us for several minutes! I'm not sure if this was specific to the day we visited, but we got free cake (my weakness) and there were crafts for children to participate in. Aside from the butterfly exhibit, the conservatory itself was stunning. As a self-appointed greenhouse enthusiast, I was so impressed with the variety of plants and the upkeep of the gardens. This little conservatory is one of Cincinnati's greatest gems. I could not recommend it more to families and individuals visiting the area! read more

I have always been a big fan of botanical gardens and this one is beautiful. The main building has a two story water fall and a slow moving river filled with Koi. It is filled with different trees and plants from around the world. Watch your kids because some of these plants have fruits and berries! The other sections of the build hold exhibits such as the orchid exhibit, cactus exhibit as well as a roationg exhibit. When I was there it was a bonsai tree exhibit. I was so immersed into take as many pictures of these beautiful plants that my camera ran out of memory. The buildings were warm and full of mosquitos =(. So if you're highly allergic like myself, you should wear some bug spray. I parked in the parking lot in back of the building. You can access it from a road a few meters past the Krohn Conservatory. Since I went during a weekday, the lot was empty and I parked right next to the back entrance. read more

I've been going to the Krohn Conservatory since I was a child. It was amazing then & is even better now. The Butterfly show never disappoints. The color & wonder of the season is embellished in every way. I really like what they've done with the cactus room and the original wood pieces. It really adds to the feel. My mom and her sisters have been coming here since the 1930's. They grew up in Cincinnati. Their parents were avid gardeners and loved all things green, so this was a big fun family adventure for them. I have been visiting here on and off since I was a tiny girl. It never fails to impress me and make me happy. The plants are lush and beautiful. I love the butterfly exhibition, too, our trips have miraculously coincided with the exhibit a number of times over the years. The Cincinnati people's interest in the cacti always made me smirk when I was a smartypants kid ( grew up in Phoenix, thought I knew everything about cacti, but the conservatory actually taught me a few things). If I lived in Cincinnati I'd want to get married here, it's so sweet. Eden park is also a wonderful place to hang out, and I like the Art Museum which is nearby. If you plan ahead you could make a whole day of hanging out here... something for everyone, too. read more

A nice place to take a pretty picture, but not very good for date night or quiet. Very crowded, lots of children. And its kind of small, we were done in less than an hour. I love butterflies and I really really enjoyed the time I spent here! I could stay here all day and spend my time with the butterflies!

Kron Conservatory is a great place to spend an hour. For only $4 per person we really enjoyed ourselves. Most of it is under a roof so it's a good rainy day activity! They have a couple greenhouses with different environments in them - desert, tropics, etc, - and apparently they always have a special exhibit going on in the other one. There are also outside gardens, but the main part is inside. There are also different temperature levels in different parts of the facility so you are not in a giant greenhouse the whole time. There is some running water, fish, and a giant waterfall as well as a gift shop, places to sit and more than adequate bathrooms. The plants and displays are well-kept and it is nice to see all of read more

We were visiting for my husband's birthday and when I discovered this place online, I knew it was a must. He loves air plants and orchids, both were in abundance. They literally have an orchid room, that is amazing. They have several bonsai trees that are over 100 years old. Just a really unique offering of plants. There is plenty of room to walk around and you can take your time to really take it all in. The restrooms were right inside the entrance and were clean. The staff was friendly. The location was easy to find, with street parking right out front. There were a lot of toy trains weaving in and out of the plants. I'm unsure if this is available year-round or if it were special for the holidays. Kids would love these. They were pleasant little surprises to find as we walked through. I highly recommend this inexpensive activity to anyone of any age, visiting the area! You could easily see it all within an hour or take your time and spend longer soaking it all in. read more

Surely one of my favorite places in the Eden Park area. First time i visited this place, i was surprised to see a rainforest in the middle of Cincinnati. The moist and cool rainforest is a miraculous shelter from the city life. Look at the plants and trees, stand near the waterfall, talk to the fishes in the small stream. The best time to be here is in Spring, when the weather is not hot. Every season they have some special events. In spring it was this Spring Floral show with intricate floral patterns, designs and decor. In Summer they had Wings of Harmony, a show with butterflies from all around the world. I am told that in winter they have a beautiful indoor train display. Being the train nut that i am, i am pumped for it. If the weather allows, the whole of Eden park is a nice day trip with lot if attactions. There are a lot of picturesque locations to take photos of. Start at Eden Park, goto Krohn, and then go on to the Arts Mueseum.Have a brunch/lunch at Rockwood. Tip: Check the weather before you go, if it is above 90, you would be sweating in no time. read more

Nestled inside Eden Park's winding roads, you may stumble upon Krohn Conservatory. It is a giant beautiful glass building that houses some of the most beautiful fauna around. Admission is free but some special exhibits such as the butterfly exhibit cost money. When you walk in the front door, the rain forest section is directly ahead. This is my favorite of all the rooms. There is a creek that winds through and it has all the beautiful flowers of the rain forest. In the back there is a mini cave that you can walk through. The kids always enjoy this part. Other sections include the cactus room, the palm room, and a tropical room. During the butterfly exhibit, they release thousands of the beautiful creatures throughout the room on the right of the entrance. During the Christmas season a life size nativity scene outside of the conservatory is one of the most popular Christmas activities in the area. The scene is made of statues, but surrounding the statues are real livestock. It can smell pretty bad sometimes. The Krohn Conservatory is a great place to go any time of the year, but you might have an easier time parking if you avoid the Christmas season! read more

Krohn is one of our most visited places in Cincinnati. It's a great place to take the kids for a short outing that is guaranteed to engage their senses. A bonus is that they often have kids activities in the bonsai room. Yes, there is an entire room full of beautiful bonsai trees. I also recommend bringing a bunch of pennies to throw into the beautiful waterfall, one of our favorite pastimes. It's often crowded during weekends during the butterfly show and other special exhibits, otherwise, there usually isn't much of a crowd. read more

So refreshing. Beautiful, spectacular, breathtaking, (how many positive adjectives can I post in one review?) Visited some friends in Cincinnati and they surprised us with a trip to the Conservatory. Such a rejuvenating experience. After a rowdy night out on the town and a very heavy, greasy lunch, this place was exactly the fresh and natural sort of experience I needed for my mind and my body. As cliche and cheesy as it sounds, seriously stop and smell the flowers. Definitely not something to rush through. We also had fun giggling through the names of all the international plants. And comparing cacti to various organs and body parts. Imagination and immaturity make this experience an exciting one for those that get "bored with all the plants." Our friends commented that it used to be free, but now costs $3. Worth it. read more

Not the most entertaining place in Cincinnati but certainly one of the most beautiful. This is a photographers dream! The place is stunningly gorgeous. They have plants from all over the world. I love the Orchid House is it my favorite. Some things to look for, they actually have a chocolate tree there! The tree that produces seeds that chocolate is made from! I thought this was so cool! Also the butterfly exhibit is not to be missed. They even hand you a little card where you are free to let butterflies land on it and they do! Its incredible. Whether you're a native or just visiting this is a Cincinnati must! read more

If you really like plants this is the place for you! My favorite time to visit Krohn's is during the butterfly exhibit - what greater joy than having a butterfly land on your shoulder, or hand, or foot, or head. You get the idea. Even if it's not butterfly exhibit-season, Krohn's is the perfect stress-reliever. Go there expecting to spend an hour or two, or possibly more, slowly walking through the various rooms correlating to the different climates. The desert room is great in the winter when you need to warm up on a cold winter day! Don't go there with a time limit - you won't be able to fully appreciate the beauty housed in this gem of Cincinnati. Do go there to relieve stress and have a relaxing morning or afternoon stroll through some common and unique plants. read more

I am a fan. I will admit that there are memories of myself as a kid exploring this magic place. I vividly remember hiding in the cave, looking for those little plants that close up when you touch them and hoping that a staff member was "harvesting" bananas only to be surprised when my father bought me a little frog that hops with the injection of air from a piece of plastic attached that one would squeeze. If you haven't been to KC here in Cincinnati, go. It is a refuge from the city. A place where you can get fresh air and listen to a waterfall. I do have a suggestion for Krohn. Make it a destination. Beef up the cafe, make it a place where kids feel welcome. Don't drain the magic that keeps the glass walls in place by creating so many rules that one thinks twice about revisiting. These elements are the only reasons why it gets 4 stars and not five. :) read more

This place is gorgeous, and grows on me every time I visit. It's also free, which makes it great to pop into briefly during a stroll around Eden Park. Krohn Conservatory - Botanical Gardens Near Me - Cincinnati, Ohio

Whether you're a fan of botanical gardens or not, the Krohn Conservatory is one of Cincinnati's must-see attractions. Opened in 1933, the Krohn Conservatory is home to over 3,500 unique plant species from all over the globe. Located in beautiful Eden Park, the drive through this park to the conservatory only prepares and increases the excitement for what you are about to see on the inside. The conservatory is broken up into different sections or rooms, each playing host to a different geographical climate. One minute you're in a tropical rain forest and the next you're in the harsh desert. Another minute you're traveling through palms and the next you're walking amongst some of the most beautiful orchids you've ever seen. You might find yourself walking through citrus trees before taking a stroll in what could very well be your own garden in the backyard. My personal favorites within the conservatory would include the banana trees, palm trees, waterfall and goldfish-laden stream. The smells, the sights, the sounds all combine to create a masterpiece of nature all in one location. And I always enjoy the built-from-scratch nativity scene that can be found right outside the conservatory every Christmas season. Admission is free, although donations are accepted. Don't be cheap. Shell out a few bucks and support this amazing spectacle. Occasionally the conservatory plays hosts to special events (such as the annual Butterfly Show) that do charge admission, but the price is never very high and well worth the expense. There's a quaint little gift shop right at the front entrance. Prices are very affordable and this is another great way to show your support. Keep in mind that the Krohn Conservatory is basically a giant green house. So it can get more than a bit warm. A visit during the summer and early fall may not be the best idea. Plan to go in late fall, winter and early spring. Also, parking can sometimes be a bit of an issue. There is a designated lot, but it isn't very large and can fill up quick. If it does, you will have to park a ways away, and that can be a bit of a hike. The Krohn Conservatory is a great place to bring the kids and just enjoy nature. I always enjoy going there. And I think botanical gardens are stupid. Mahalo, and enjoy. read more
