My recent visit here was very different than my first visit. I'm not sure what changed but it was just different. I didn't feel like the inventory was that great. The Kroger prices were reasonable on some items. Some items were not as reasonable. We use the self checkout but the guy worker we encountered was nice. read more

Giving three stars because it's the closest location and the staff is generally nice. It's small in here. No updates or renovations. You can't really find anything you need in here because the app shows the wrong aisle number for most items. I prefer the Timberlake location due to the selection, although the staff isn't really as nice as Wards. read more

Grocery Store Kroger is the 500 lb gorilla in the Lynchburg area when it comes to grocery stores. There are three locations with this one being the smallest (and presumably the oldest) in the group. Like the other locations, this Kroger is a full service, multi-department establishment, and like the other locations, they excel in certain areas. Large selection of name brand goods and a pretty robust selection of store brand products give you a decent choice on how to spend your money to meet your needs. Being smaller, it seems a bit cramped here even with the new renovation which was long overdue and really cleaned up the look of the place. Like the other local locations, there is a gas station on the property which is generally cheap and downright a steal when you factor in the Kroger points you get for shopping. All in all a good spot to get your pantry loaded up or to pick up your family needs. Prices are hit or miss - mostly good but like any supermarket, you should be cognizant of what things cost. This Kroger is very clean and well originated. Everything was easy to locate and checkout was flawless.

The store is older, but has a decent selection. It's the bathrooms that are so consistently foul that makes me want to shop elsewhere. If this is how they take care of areas that customers see, I can only imagine what the things look like on the other side of those double doors. Everything in the bathroom is disgusting. It's rarely stocked, always smells horrible, and is filthy. And it's been like that for years. read more

This Kroger is honestly probably the lowest one on my list of Krogers I would go to in town. As of March 2016, it is going under massive renovations, which is much needed, but I'm just not sure the quality of food is up to the standards of the other Krogers in town, which is odd as it is in a prime location. Pros: Location. Whether you like it or not, you find yourself on Wards Road from time to time. 24 hours. Some Krogers (the ones without gas stations) are not 24 hours, so it's nice that you don't have to think of that here. Gas station location - this one has a Kroger Gas Station. Spacious Produce section, but the layout makes no sense. UScans - I think this location has more UScans than most (at least more than in Boonsboro) and there's no limit on how many groceries you can have to use the Uscans. Perfect if you don't like a teenager crappily bagging your groceries. I would think that this Kroger gets more business than most because of its location, but for some reason, I always find stuff on Manager's special at this location. I'm not complaining -- I always find produce that's not bad, but is on Manager's special at this location -- I'll take it! Large entrance (compared to the one double door feature in Boonsboro) Cons: The whole store is laid out weird to me. The flow of aisles makes no sense. Speaking of aisles, they are NARROW and especially on Tuesdays when the store is full of senior citizens, this store drives me crazy with cart traffic. The quality of meat here seems to be less than my home Kroger in Boonsboro. Same with the produce. Parking lot flow. You think this isn't a big deal, but it is. You never know who is stopping, who is going, and quite frankly, for it being a huge parking lot, it seems like there's nowhere to park. Bad layout. I'd like to come back and re-review once they do this remodel, but, honestly, I'd never make this the Kroger I regularly visit for my groceries. However, I'd choose Kroger over Wal-Mart or Food Lion any day. read more

Poor customer service, only one line open other than express and self check out. Walking into store when an employee just about ran over me with a handicap cart. Same employee wondering around while I bagged my own groceries. The check out person never spoke. Very busy, many customers complaining about standing in line for one register open. read more

Always dirty bathroom and crabby/disgruntled employees. Poor food management. Cannot count the numerous times I have returned bad meat or produce. If you have a car shop anywhere else but in the overpriced pit! read more

my first job was part-time at kroger 55 years ago. today things are different than then but i reckon eveything has changed. the wards road lynchburg va store advertises items as lost leaders to get you through the doors and then never have the products. it is akin to when i worked for winn dixie in the 70's and they ran thifty maid tomato soup for .10 a can and would order 5 cases. also they hardly ever get the prices right i am consistently overcharged and then have to stand at the service counter to get my money back. they should have enough product or either give people a raincheck otherwise it is deceptive business practices. the employees are all so nice just wished the management was. read more
