I live downtown and I have never shopped at Aldi until I sold my car last year and found that using delivery services. I could patronize a variety of grocery stores other than just driving out to the nearby Kroger. This has been a really positive result of car divestment. Aldi is one of the grocery stores that has risen to the top of my chart. I believe their prices are very reasonable and they have quite a few items that I find appealing. read more

I love Aldi as my primary grocery store. If I go anywhere else, it is usually for items not stocked at Aldi. I spent 5 years in Germany and love the food so once in a while I find a German treat in the store I just have to have. My wife thinks I'm crazy but she loves the aisle of shame. Who are we kidding we all know Aldi's is the best place! Just stop it no need to try to prove wrong. The prices are crazy good, yes the brands are different but the taste is the same or better. I love this place and at this point i might even be biased. The store is clean, checkers are fast, and the carts are sanitized. This place is AMAZING. read more

Aldi That private label brand supermarket that confounds most first time shoppers. This is a very European model (and maybe old time USA) for those of you who remember having to bring your own bags to the market back in the day. Aldi is all about cheap prices and they way they go about it is with their own brands (about 99% of the time). Like Trader Joe's (which they also own), the brands are named along the lines of the product ethnicity... i.e.: Happy Farms for dairy stuff, L'oven for baked goods etc. The prices are outstanding and stupid low in most cases. The products are as good as the major brand names you may be familiar with. The selection is, to be fair, eclectic. There are a core group of products, then there are seasonal products, then there is other stuff that you wonder why it is in a supermarket at all... but that is their business model and it works for them. They also have a huge selection typically of gluten free items under their "g-free" brand but the selection in the new Lynchburg store was small- I suspect they will wait to see how many requests they get for it. There is also a higher end version of their products, which I did not see yet- again, I suspect that once they are up and running, they will bring in more of their typical items. Prices are low as mentioned - be prepared to bag your own items - a la Costco or Sam's club as they do not provide free bags- you can buy them, but try to recycle! All in all I am glad to see them here finally - looking forward to them coming up to full speed! Oh yes - you will require a quarter to get you shopping cart - but you get it back when you return the cart... keeps the parking lot all nice and tidy. Parking all around. read more

I was so happy when Aldi decide to put a location here in Lynchburg. They have absolutely awesome prices on many many things. I went by there the day before New Year's and they had ground beef for a dollar 25 a pound. If you never been to an Aldi before it doesn't always have everything you're looking for but everything that they have is discount prices. Also make sure you bring a quarter for a cart checkout... This place is great. Friendly staff. They remember me from one visit to the next. But that's not what keeps me coming back over and over. I love their fruits and vegetables -- always fresh! I avoided going here until I saw a youtube about aldi now I love it. The staff is so efficient and I can get in and out quickly

I love Aldi, took a few times of going to get the hang of everything and to try out the Aldi brands and find out what we like and what we don't care for. I really like having the quarter for the carts, it keeps the carts from being all over the place and I believe it will keep the carts working better too. So, bring a quarter, bring your own bags, watch how others check out in front of you and you can be in and out in a flash. There return policy is great, but I've only needed to use it once. The biggest thing I like is the prices, pretty much always lower and it has really helped with the grocery budget. read more

Love they are here! I do agree they should have music or something but I love the prices! I stock up on cheeses, cereals, paper products... but I've not had too much luck on their electronic line. Don't waste your money on that stuff. Organic produce and low prices on gluten free products too... the ALDI Finds are fun too when they come out. I hope their sister companion, Trader Joe's makes it here too soon!!! read more

Grand opening I Aldi most of the products are there brand which saves money. Use a quarter to get your grocery cart which is nice the reason they do not need to pay a cart person you will put your own cart away for your quarter back. If you like name brands then don't come here. If you like saving money then this is the place. read more

The overall atmosphere here is glum- it is totally without hospitality or ambiance. The customers are glum and rarely make eye contact, altho the staff seems to be friendly enough. Shopping carts outside must be rented at 25 cents- if you don't have a quarter, you are out of luck. Go inside to a checker and break a dollar bill. The products are laid out in no particular order (except for the frozen and fridge stuff) and the feeling is one of rationing- there is no feeling of "plenty". My feeling was that this is the eventual result of west coast progressivism gone amok. Dreary and full of minimalist items. The prices are OK, but not worth a special trip, when you have to go to Kroger's to get the stuff Aldi doesn't carry. Check out involved self bagging, and the bags cost 6 cents each. Like lunatic environmentalists, they expect you to provide "green" canvas bags for yourself. Is this how they manage their arguably low prices? I wonder if their staff is also short changed as to salaries. The overall feeling is one of "Euro-smugness." I didn't like it. But they do have some interesting bakery products from France and some decent bread, which is sorely lacking in Central Virginia. the wines are lower in price than Kroger's. read more
