As an FYI, petrol prices were $3.59 today in Louisville and $3.39 in Lexington--on average. Issues within this store are typically due to rude customers, and I have seen my fair share of them and how they are dealt with. This store is honestly the best running store in Owensboro and I hope it never changes- the reliability of this store is amazing. The other review on this page makes zero sense- most convivence stores charge a separate amount for small purchases on a credit card, and this store charges $0.30 if the customers total is under $3. This is because every purchase gets taxed, constantly having small purchases will rack up on the stores end - I 100% understand. Wal-Mart prices ring up different from what they are shown. If you feel you were priced wrong anywhere, talk to the associate and ask them to reevaluate. Kindness goes a long way! Bottled water is a non-taxable item in Kentucky!…read more Came here back in 2014 and they tried charging me tax on a bottle of water despite Kentucky being a state where no tax is charged on bottled water. The employee argued with me saying that "Wal-Mart charges tax on their bottled water! Why can't we!?" Of course Wal-Mart does not charge tax on bottled water. Check it out for yourself. I decided to finally come back to this Shell station today (08-25-2020) and low and behold they tried to charge tax on my bottled water again. When he rang up my drink it was the wrong price, like over $1 more than the sign had said ($1.79). I told him the sign said $1.79 and he didn't even argue or go look at the sign he just changed it to $1.79 which rang up as $1.90 with tax. I told him that that bottled water isn't taxed in Kentucky and he got a big grin on his face and said "How did you know?" And then he took the tax off. This is worrisome because it implies he knows it's a non taxable item yet he was charging for it anyways. So I pulled out my credit card to pay and he bumped up the price to $2.35 from $1.79. When I asked him what he was doing he said they have to charge extra money if the amount of the sale is under $3. So I pulled out some cash and paid. The people that run this store have been charging tax on bottled water for years. How much have they screwed locals out or ultimately? Avoid this place. I'll be contacting the KY Department of Revenue to report these bozos today. More than likely nothing will happen but I thought I'd go out of my way to create a Yelp for this business so people know to avoid this place.
