Kroger Gas 1/22/2015 with discount points
    Milton S.

Kroger is probably the remaining earliest national food chain store in Corinth since Piggly Wiggly is no longer around. After the flood of 2010, the new store is clean, larger and better stocked. Shopping here is a pleasure. Produce selection and quality here tends to be nicest in town. Prices are sometimes a little higher, but selection is often better. Kroger house brands are prominently featured. Gas points are a definite attraction for many shoppers. Special deals with gift card purchases often allow multiple points leading to major gas discounts - as much as $1.00 per gallon.

For meat they are a little high but for cakes, flowers or dairy like yogart or ice cream they have the great deals.

As far as the produce goes, I'd be comfortable buying the peppers, but the rest (on the day I went) were old, some moldy and had a leathery skin appearance and brown bananas. There were cactus leaves, fresh banana leaves and peppers in the cooler. I purchased a couple of poblano peppers for $1.35. I can't find them in Kroger and Walmart has had them in the past, so it's hit or miss finding them when I want them. These were shiny and had no pitted skins. There is a vast selection of herbs and spices, in all forms, rough chopped, minced, tea bag and fresh (wilted today but they are probably generally fresher). As far as the can goods, such as peppers, tomatoes and black beans, they are cheaper at Walmart and for the same brand name. I was really taken aback by the price of a 4 lb bag of regular sugar (no unique brandname, the same as in other stores), they had it priced at $4.19. I did my grocery shopping across the road at Kroger when I left here and I paid $1.89 for 4 lb sugar. The butcher shop area had a rather large selection of meats, ranging from mystery (mystery to me as I didn't recognize the cut and I don't know Spanish well enough to know what the placards said it was) to preseasoned diced meats. I plan to come back for the thin sliced beef to make jerky. It was cut thinner than the butcher at Gardner's could do for me. There were fresh baked breads and buns but no pricing. I will probably grab a bag of buns when I come back for the beef. There are also non-grocery items, such as, cooking vessels, grill for stovetop use, nik-naks, lighters and such.

The prices are the same, and in some cases, higher than the local grocery stores. This may just be a grocery store now and not a "thrift" grocery store. The store is very clean and organized but it's hard to pay full prices for items that may already be out of date. I plan to go back for some can foods, but the freezer foods are not all in the original packages but in zipper type bags with contents written in magic marker. Uh, no thanks. End of updated review. They were crawling all around the wrapper and one on the bite I hadn't yet eaten. I gathered all of what I had bought up and inquired when the owner would be in. Accordingly, I went to the store on Friday morning, December 18. The owner was there and I told him the issue. He refused to issue a refund, saying only that he would let me exchange it for another box of granola bars. I pressed the issue wanting my money back and he got very belligerent and was not at all professional. Absolutely TERRIBLE service not even to mention the bugs in the food.
