Combine my hyper 3 year old daughter with my 8 year old son who now has the temperament of a grouchy teenager and you can only imagine how much of a hot mess our photo shoot was this year. It had to be someone who wouldn't limit the amount of photos taken and would allow us to view all of the photos so we could pick our favorite ones. Not only did Jennifer provide all of this she edits 50!!! That is huge in the photography world and very time consuming. She was very prompt when responding to my emails and showed up right on time! Sarah made the whole process super easy and, dare I say, almost relaxing?…read more Before the shoot: Sarah was excellent at setting expectations in advance with great materials to peruse (helping me select where to shoot, what I would wear, and answering a ton of small questions in both the contract and other documentation she sent). I've always been anxious about having my picture taken by professionals but I knew I needed to bite the bullet and get new headshots. I sent pictures of my clothing options in advance and Sarah helped me narrow down to a few different things we could try. During the shoot: we got off to a great start with free and easy street parking at our meeting spot (I know that's not totally in Sarah's control but it's a point in Petaluma's favor as a location!). We wandered around downtown's alleys and parking lots for about an hour. That doesn't sound glamorous but it's true that exterior walls are a lot more interesting as a background than you'd expect in a photo. Neutral but not boring. Throughout the session we talked about my goals for the shoot and my work, and I learned more about Sarah, too, which helped me relax even more. After the shoot: again, setting great expectations that Sarah would take some time to process but would email me in about a week. I was in such an adrenaline rush by the time it was over that I forgot everything she said when we were done, but she kindly responded to my email asking her to repeat everything she told me later that day. Then, she delivered the photos several days earlier than expected (I am a sucker for underpromising and overdelivering). I never thought I'd have a good time getting photos taken but Sarah changed my mind!

After making sure she was in our budget, she scheduled a phone call with me and my husband to discuss what we were expecting and to find out more about our background. We booked her a few months (maybe 6 or so? before our event). A few weeks before our event she touched base with us again with her event information sheet so she could find out the details and timelines of our event and our portrait list. We worked back and forth and she gave us a lot of insight about the process to tell us what was and wasn't feasible (and why) given our event timeline so we could make adjustments to when specific pictures would be taken and when specific things (like cake cutting and toasts) should be arranged since we only booked her for 4 hours and not a full day. The day of JennaBeth came early and prepared and our family portraits went very smoothly. JennaBeth has a great eye for detail. Our friends and family didn't even really notice there was a photographer there. In the end, our portraits came a little bit after the original estimated time frame but the pictures more than made up for the little bit of waiting that we did. Totally worth every penny we spent (which was very reasonable for the quality of the photos). Both of our families and me and my husband were blown away by the pictures we received- my mom can't get over how good they are and she doesn't like most photos! JennaBeth really currated the photos she took and we saw only the best of the best and don't feel like anything was missed. The lighting and mood throughout all of the photos were consistent and amazing - everyone looked great.
