We took our chances at going inside and sampling Buffalo Bro's mainly because of how the sign looked - hip and edgy without being overwhelmingly pretentious. Naturally, we were attracted. Upon entering, we were at awe seeing the chalk artworks adorning the walls. My friend and I, being on a food tour, just got an order of their sweet ribs platter with a siding or macaroni and cheese plus an upgrade to dirty rice. Boy, were we so happy! The macaroni and cheese was yummy and buttery, with the pasta cooked al dente. The dirty rice was the perfect complement to the indeed sweet ribs that were so tender, there was no need for us to use our knives. Hopefully I can come back soon and bring my Dad along with me as I'm sure he'll love it here. With that happening, we'll probably go to the area more often.

However, thanks to a certain someone (you know who you are and I blame you entirely), I ended up developing a taste for wings. Turns out they're pretty good when done right... and man, do these guys do their wings right. They've got enough flavor, they aren't dry and there's this barest hint of a crunch in the skin. Wonderful wings. And their ribs. They're fall off the bone tender and very flavorful. Couple that with their sides and their rice (can someone say awesome mac n' cheese?)... you have a perfectly filling meal for under 300php. Really, 220php for ribs? Where are you gonna find 200 peso ribs that aren't cardboard?! Then there are equally great burgers and sandwiches... there are just a lot of things on the menu I could gush about forever. Definitely a great place to go no matter what meal needs to be fulfilled.

My favorite, the Salpicao Medallion, is expertly made with meat that is tender and perfectly seasoned. Their Chicken Yakitori is also a wonder. Just imagine grilled chicken wrapped in bacon and served with rice that's just as flavorful as the chicken. I also love their Smoked Salmon Truffle Sushi! The truffle may be a little overpowering in taste but there's still that hint of smoked salmon that immediately makes me grab another piece. For dessert, you can try their Bread Pudding which isn't overly sweet but still delicious. This is definitely one of the places I'd never put to the torch (get it?).

They've got some Japanese, Italian, Filipino/Spanish... But the common denominator is they're all good and rich. The Salpicao Medallion, Spicy Tuna Tartare, Gambas Pizza, Prosciutto Pizza, and Cream Cheese Salmon Roll are just some of my top picks! Everything's seasoned and cooked really well. Expect a really tasty, satisfying meal when you eat here. The place just gets a little stuffy, especially when all the "torched" meat dishes are served on the tables, because the smoke just goes everywhere. They really need to improve on their ventilation, but the fact that people keep eating there regardless should show how decent the place is. Definitely a reliable choice for group dinners, whether with family or friends 'cause there's something for everybody.

Texture, taste, it just adds so much to a simple cut of meat or anything else. What Stoner's did was take every single thing you could batter and deep fry and put it on one menu. When I say everything, I mean everything. Wings, chicken, fish, bacon, corndogs, oreos, chocolate... everything. I'll have to say though, I like their corndogs better than the ones at the Soul Food Truck for the simple reason that for 50php, you get the whole hotdog. Their breading isn't so thick and it's served with honey mustard. A good combination. When you're in somewhere like the Z Compound, that's a pretty smart move. It's the sort of food that's popular with the kids and given that the Z's population is mostly kids? That's a given. The staff's pretty great too. They work efficiently and are willing to deliver your order wherever you're sitting in the Compound. Also, they said their bar stools were reserved for a group but let me hang around while I ate my corndog. For what you pay, it's also a good deal. Their menu runs along the 150php-ish range but you get a good amount of deep fried goodness with each serving. Definitely not a place I'd go for a meal every single chance I get for fear of cutting my life short a few years but it's a tempting offer to.

Stoner's Soul Food To Go is always a treat whenever I would like to go on a cheat day. Their ridiculously unhealthy fare is a welcome reward after days of strict dieting on vegetarian food. It has found a niche as one of the few places in the The Z that offers dessert, and so customers always snap up the perennial favorite deep-fried Oreos, which is basically just everybody's favorite sandwich, dunked in pancake batter and fried to golden perfection in hot oil. They also have spuds in all yummy varities such as fries, crinkle-cut potatoes and hash browns. For a heavy snack, I get the fish and chips, their tender pieces of white fish fillets fried in batter and served with french fries. The staff are always nice, and they could take your order to wherever you are seated inside The Z Compound, though they have their own counter with a few seats.

Luckily, The Burger Project meets all of these qualifications to be a Maginhawa standard. The restaurant is cozy, with seating both inside and outside. You can seat larger parties here but be prepared to be brushing elbows. It helps the place feel more homey. The menu of available toppings and pre made combinations alongside sides and drinks are written artfully in chalk above the cash register and condiments bar. They have this cool template where you can literally build your own burger, customizing everything from the bun to the cheese to sauces, condiments and everything in between! Be warned though, every upgrade comes at a price and it can add up quickly. The standard patty is a very generous serving, and familiar to most Filipino palates, it's a bit on the saltier side. I do, however, appreciate its flavor and juiciness so I don't really think it's a deal breaker. Some standout add-ons to the burgers here include an egg, adobo aioli, a grilled pineapple slice, and garlic cream cheese among more standard and out there choices. I love their fries too! Definitely good for sharing for the size. I recommend the sweet potato fries (₱70), The Animal Style Fries (a nod to In-N-Out's famous fries of the same name), and the garlic aioli fries. They're great, especially the sweet potato fries because they walk a really nice line between kamote fries you'd buy on the street and the sweet potato fries you'd see at more American places.

I used to frequent their branch along C5 since it used to be on the way to my school. My usual order was their Shepherd's Pie. Nothing special really, but it was just the simple taste of a home cooked meal that made me love it. Yesterday, I decided to order something different. Having been away from home for a few weeks, my taste buds were craving for something Pinoy. They now have an All Day Breakfast menu which includes my favorite Filipino Breakfast, beef tapa. I honestly wasn't expecting much, nor was I expecting service to be so quick, but when I first laid my eyes on the plate, I knew it had to be good! Now, for tapa, I like to make sure that I've got all aspects in my spoon. First the garlic rice, then a part of the egg, then some tapa dipped in vinegar, and to top it all off... Atchara! And that first bite? Maaaaan. That first bite. It was heaven. I fell in love. It was like a beef tapa bacon. Tasty, salty and crunchy. It was so good that whenever my boyfriend would ask for a bite, I would let him get a spoonful with a heavy heart. I absolutely did not want to share my food! Mom & Tina's definitely became part of my Best Tapas in town list!
