My wife and I have been using Common Thread CSA for a few years. We are really happy with the…read morequality and variety of veggies we get. We have been eating veggies we never tried before and exploring new recipes. They are extremely reliable in delivering the veggies to a convenient pick-up point with flexible hours. We get an email to tell us about each week's harvest. The email includes a recipe for one of the veggies featured that week. If I forget to pick up our veggies, the family hosting the pick-up calls to remind me. I also appreciate that this CSA offers discounted plans for those who can't afford full price, and lets us donate our veggies if we are out of town one week.

I love Common Thread Farm! We have been members there since the CSA started and it is one of my…read morefavorite things about living in Hamilton! We get a standard share, which allows us to pick out around 8 vegetables per week. It is a generous amount of veggies for a very reasonable cost! It addition, people who pick up the shares at the farm are able to pick flowers, additional veggies (like cherry tomatoes, sugar snap peas, beans, edamame), strawberries in season, and fresh herbs. All the good is incredibly delicious! I am sad every year when the season is over and I have to go back to store bought vegetables. There is also a fall and winter share available with storage crops and later growing vegetables. Wendy and Asher are kind and flexible, and they work hard to make the farm a welcoming place for the community. I can't recommend Common Thread highly enough!

Withy Hollow Flower Farm

Withy Hollow Flower Farm

Owned by Keli Perrin, Withy Hollow is a pick-your-own-flower farm in Erieville NY. The name came…read morefrom how the word "hollow" refers to the geography of the land. A hollow is a narrow piece of low land between surrounding hills, as the farm resides next to Stoney Pond State Forest, and "withy" is a willow branch. Keli thought since they owned a decent portion of land, why not give it a name? And that's how Withy Hollow Flower Farm came to be. The farm consists of four different flower beds, each containing a different collection of flowers, all blooming at different times during the season. When you visit, you're allowed to walk through all of the beds and pick from wherever your heart desires. Withy Hollow uses no pesticides, herbicides, or chemical fertilizers anywhere on the farm, so the flowers are all organic and sustainably grown. I stumbled upon Withy Hollow from a Reddit post from the owners daughter, who was just trying to get some eyes on the place. I thought I'd save it as a date day for my wife, and decided to bring her as a surprise over the weekend. They do pick-your-own-flower hours from 8am-2pm every day. When you walk onto the farm, the place almost doesn't even feel real. It's like you're walking into a Disney movie or something. Beautiful gardens of flowers, a peaceful quiet setting, ducks and chickens roaming around and several golden retrievers coming to greet you and be your tour guides. There's a small building where Perrin makes her arrangements, and also for customers to put together their bouquets. We were given a bucket with water and scissors and told everything in the gardens in up for grabs - flowers, shrubbery, everything. You fill the bucket with what you want, and come back to the building where you trim the stems and put together a bouquet. A medium sized cup is $20 but they also have pricing for full buckets. You get A LOT for $20, we even needed to make a second trip out to fill it up. The grounds are beautiful, the flowers are well taken care of and beautifully blooming, and a lot of stuff you just don't see in stores. We had a great time just walking through the gardens and spending time together, clipping off what caught our eye and just enjoying the peacefulness of the farm. The owner and her family/staff are there to greet you and are extremely friendly people. We'll definitely be going back.
