The Middlebury Community Historical Museum is located in the Elkhart County city of Middlebury…read more It's a picturesque community in the heart of Amish country where I've visited multiple times due to it being right on the Pumpkinvine Nature Trail. The museum is a rather small museum that is only open about 10-15 hours a week on Tuesday-Thursday. The museum collects, preserves, and exhibits the history of Middlebury. It's run by the Middlebury Historical Society. Admission is free, though they do accept donations and you can also arrange for group tours. Exhibits largely consist of archival items, photos, items from the community's economy, Amish-related items, and even school-related items. They have events throughout the year and during key festivals will even off free guided tours. Of course, being from Indy it's completely unfair to compare this historical museum to anything present here in Indy. They're entirely different communities. However, the times I've been here I've enjoyed it and the volunteers are always super friendly. Accessibility tends to be fairly strong as well. If you're in town during a festival, taking a guided tour that will include stories about Dillinger's alleged travels through the community and, of course, the area's Amish community is a must. This is simply a delightful historical museum for a small community. It's a super friendly community. Then, you can spend some time at the nearby Pumpkinvine or visit the quilt garden.
