I don't really understand the reason for not having the gym available to members during swim meets but maybe it's to keep potential creepers from using the same locker room as minors. The facility is nice and clean and there was plenty of parking as there is a separate lot for event parking and the main parking lot right in front of the building is for members only and it is clearly marked. The aquatic center is very nice and has nice large windows that have a view of the St. Joseph river. The seats were much better than the usual flat bleacher seats that you normally have to sit in. It looks like a former YMCA that has been updated and remodeled.

It's all very colorful and fun. There's also a splash pad with multiple water features, and it's located in a nice shady spot with benches all around. Shade! Around a splash pad! This seems to be a rare thing nowadays, but yes, there is shade here. As a parent, that's probably what I like this park: There is always somewhere shady to sit or stand. This park also had a gigantic roofed overhand area with benches for big parties. When we visited, there was a church party going on. There is also a little rain garden on the outer edge of the park, which was a welcome sight. I love when parks make the effort to incorporate native plants into their park spaces. It doesn't go unnoticed, and it's greatly appreciated! Potawatomi Park is directly outside of Potawatomi Zoo. The two share a parking lot, so it might be a drag to find parking on busy days.

I went in to the lessons trying not to get my hopes up as I had been disappointed with other area lessons, but after the first lesson I was pleasantly surprised. The lessons take place in her back yard and she employs several staff members. Brittany and her staff are very professional and give the best lessons in the Portage/Kalamazoo area. My children have participated in her group and private lessons and have been very satisfied with both. If you have children with special needs, Brittany's Swim school does a great job accommodating for all types of students. My oldest daughter is autistic and I am truly amazed how well Brittany and her staff work with her. The schedule is posted each summer in April/May on Brittany's website (www.brittanysswimschool.com) The lessons fill up quick, so if your interested in lessons, it's important to call right away!
