Unfortunately, Calumet City succumbed to a sad combination of white flight and city officials Hell bent on destroying the State and Stateline entertainment corridor, leveling solid historic properties into a barren surface level wasteland, that remains void to this very day. We were once guided by the bright neon signs and chasing lights, like a mini-Las Vegas strip it was. God forbid someone was drinking, carrying on, staying out until past 4 a.m. and having a Gay ole time. So here we are at Dick's R U Crazy, this lone Gay venue has been established in 1990 and serves as a beacon of life for area Gays. It offers a traditional Gay bar feel from back in the day with two (2) chalk dusty pool tables and an eclectic variety of your usual patrons. A corridor leads past the restrooms on the right that opens up into a lounge area with intimately lit tables, a stage and runway avec drag drapes. However, classic Drag shows and those once crowned as bar royalty, drag queens, have been replaced in a new world favoring karaoke. Ugh! You cannot miss what you do not know. In my opinion, today's bar music or what I heard at Dick's was a bore. It's choppy and doesn't flow one song to the next. Who wants to hear and see Seth Meyers bash Trump on Big TV screens on a Friday night in your bar? A total waste of fun time! There must be something far more entertaining and uplighting to fill in the background with to get people up and dancing. Dancing!!? What the F..k is that? One might ask! Dick's R U Crazy is a Gay oasis in a desolate desert environment that doesn't offer many better options short of going into Boystown/Chicago . Hopefully one day the Calumet Region Gay scene will rebound. Dick's R U Crazy is a continuing work in progress.

I mean when you are walking and the floor tile comes up with you, this is not a good sign. Years ago, this place (which by the way has been around since the early 80's or maybe even the 70's), was not a bad hidden place. But as the years went on, the owner (Juanita Banana), turned it into a really thriving business. On any given day you could see the cowboys of Mexico show up there (why are married men in a gay bar), and just drink away the night while getting a glimpse of female impersonations. And really not a bad group, but you will probably need to speak the native language in order to understand. Very few touch on english music but sometimes if your lucky, you will see a Gaga impersonator. the drinks can be less expensive for the venue, but hey it is what it is. I was initially told the wrong cover amount, and when I asked about an ATM since they only take cash, I was basically told to go find one down the street. In 2026, we're still cash-only for cover charges? Be serious. After finally getting inside, I quickly realized I had paid $10 for the privilege of standing shoulder-to-shoulder with strangers because there was literally nowhere to sit. The place was packed, which is great for business, but not so great for customers who are expected to pay a cover and then spend the entire night standing around. I stayed about 30 minutes because my friends were there, but the vibe had already been ruined at the door. Nothing kills a night out faster than rude customer service before you've even made it inside. By the way when I was leaving, the rude door person had the nerve to tell me that if I came back right away she wouldn't charge me, but if I didn't come back right away she would charge me again the $10. I told her don't worry I would never be back. I love supporting Black-owned businesses and was excited to check this place out. Unfortunately, good customer service should come with the experience, and that was completely missing. Between the prison-yard first impression, cash-only cover charge, misinformation, overcrowding, and rude door staff, this was a one-and-done experience for me. I won't be back.

I like this bar, and I totally disagree with the lesbian. If you are a lesbian, maybe this is not the place for you, not because you wouldn't be welcomed, you would be with open arms, just there aren't many lesbians that frequent the bar to my knowledge. It is more gay man orientated, and there is a good mix of gay men from young to older, and this is the place where gay men meet with their friends. I found most of the guys here are very friendly, and will include you into their circle of friends if your friendly and approachable. Meaning you just can't sit in the bar and keep to yourself. Also, you can meet and interact with potential dating partners, not everyone there is looking for a b/f, so keep that in mind. Otherwise they have Karaoke on Sunday nights, 1/2 price draft beer on Tuesdays ( my favorite night ) and some drag shows which I don't go to, lol. Fridays and Saturdays seem to be busy, and if your looking for some action that would be the best days to go. I prefer the less crowded nights, and more into the "cheers" type crowd. There is also a pool table, which I enjoy, which is also a good ice breaker, you don't have to be good to play, most aren't, but a few are. All in all I like the place, not many places to go to in the burbs, real people here, and we vary from plain to perfect. I am single btw, and I am not perfect, but I visit Club Krave, for friendship , camaraderie, with guys like myself, and maybe one day someone like me, will discover me or I him, and we can both visit Club Krave together to meet with our friends. So quit sitting at home on the Internet and get out and meet new friends, and me at Club Krave. (and no I don't own the place or have any financial interest) Cheers Jon Paul read more

This place is great!!! They play great music, The place looks nicer than it used to when it was the dump "The Edge". The owners are so nice and talk to you, they make you feel right at home. It IS the best south burb bar around for the alternative lifestyle. What I like the best is the owners actually listen to you you . They ask whet you would like to see happen in the bar and they make sure it happens. When I first came back here I was given a free drink right away by the owners because it was my first time at club Krave. That was really cool!! And I appreciated that. They have the coolest and best drag shows also. They blow the city queens away!!! Plus they also have a different theme almost every weekend so there is always something going on. Its definitely not like the snobby North side bars where the people don't give you the time of day. I recommend this bar to everyone. I love it and will continue to go over and over. I am finished with bars like hunters and the ones on the North side. I will spend the money in gas to go from the city to here, cause I want to have a good time and it's well worth it!!! Keep up the Great work Club Krave!!!! read more

Went up there was overbearing older guy bartending named randy. Felt like I was being stalked by him. He kept on asking if i was single and my number. I asked him to please leave me alone which eventually he did. Another bartender went to back and have a cigarette. I sat there and this guy kept on trying to kiss someone else then this other guy he pushed him and eventually the bartender left him alone after he fell on the balcony. Could tell he was drunk. Later that evening seen him give oral to a guy on the stairs. Amazing. Seen coke activity in the bathroom and weed smoking in the back. Had a drink and asked the bartender for a beer. It tasted like pee. Wasnt that cold. I tried to give this place a chance but when I asked for the owners info I was told Jason dont give a F&^k. I was like wow. I never will return there. I guess maybe the long trip to boystown is worth it. Never will go to this piece of crap bar again. read more

Lets just say this place should be called Club Krap, not club Krave. I saw the ad in gay chicago and thought okay I'll round up the crew and hed on out to the suburbs for something different. Well we got lost on the way. it was in a really sketchy part of downtown Blue Island, not the safest place and if you blink you will miss this place so you need to keep your eyes out. we went in and it was kind of stuffy and I was feeling a bit clausterphobic . It was a real stare you down if you've never been here look that the townie patrons were giving me and my friends the feeling that we weren't in Kansas anymore. The dance floor was as big as my walk in closet. and the music was from 2003. The drinks were weak and no eye candy whatsoever. I've been to better hole in the wall gay places then this that are alot closer to civilization. read more

I just found out about a post written today about how terrible Club Krave is. This person Jennifer H. who proclaims to be a transgender and comes to the bar quite often, is not a real person. I know this for a fact for I am the founder of the ChicagolandTGirls and I know all the TGirls that come to the bar. The person who wrote this has had issues with the bar in the past, with the establishment, the workers employed there and even some patrons. All these things she has stated are not happening there. Club Krave is an open minded bar that welcomes anyone and everyone and treats them with respect and friendliness. I have been going there since it became Club Krave 11 years ago. I have a great time every time I am there. read more

Absolutely love this place!! It is so comforting to walk in and see everyone's smiling faces! You see Rita at the door, greeting everyone with a smile and the best attitude! Jason and Bob actually come to the bar and hang out with everyone there! You don't always see that anymore. The bartenders are fantastic and truly remember your face after just a couple times with being there! Then you have the DJ that just plays the best music! The shows are amazing! LOVE when they have Captain St. James up there performing, or having Sara sing! Lindsey D is WONDERFUL. Every time I've gone there guys see that I'm a masculine appearing white guy so I get nothing but bottom guys hitting on me. So I break their hearts and tell them that I'm also a bottom. I'll sit some where with my drink and look around. Sadly I rarely spot my kryptonite which is black men. The rare times I see a black man he lacks the confidence to calm hit on me. This bar is in blue island so where are all the bi or gay black men???? I will say that the times I've been there I never had issues getting a drink but that's usually because the bartenders were trying to get in my pants. So far 2 of them got in. ;-) read more

The atmossphere here is that of complete love for the LGBTQ community it serves. The meeting place of the Chicago TGirls. I attended Transgender Remembrance Day there.
