This bath can be easily reached by bus no 38A leaving from U4-Station Heiligenstadt, the stop is called "Krapfenwaldgasse". From there it is a ten minutes walk (sidewalk) surrounded by the woods of Vienna. The hills offer lots of possibilities for picnics.
Situated in the woods of Vienna on a hill it is very famous and liked very much because of the stunning view all over Vienna.
The architecture of the building itself is quite impressive, because the fundaments are made of huge gravel that keeps the groundwater from the building, made to last for centuries. This was the way of architecture applied at the beginning of the 20th century in alpine or wood areas. At the upper part of the building lots of wood was used which makes it quite appealing, too.
The Krapfenwaldl bath or "Krawa" like most people living in the 19th district call it, is the most high-lying summer bath of Vienna in the Krapfenwaldgasse at the "Cobenzl". The Cobenzl is one of the hills at the outskirts of Vienna, in the 19th district called Doebling.
The bath was founded in 1923 and named after Mr. Franz Josef Krapf who established a house in the woods called "Krapfenwaldl". After some time people were able to reach it by the Viennese Hoehenstrasse. Later on the little house in the woods became an inn. Today it is the restaurant of the bath. At a separate area the first skinny-dip places of Vienna was established. In 1978 two new basis were built. After renovation in 1989 it became the summer bath of today.
40,069 sqm offer enough space for 4,500 visitors. There is a sports basin, a family basin as well as a basin for children with a slide. Above all there is an adventure basin with massage jets, a restaurant, sunbathing areas, a beach-volley ball ground, a soccer ground and a natural children's playground.
People are friendly, there are enough sun loungers, you can bring your own food, but the inn offers Viennese food, snacks at moderate prices.
For handicapped people there is an adapted shower and WC, but to change from one area to another you need somebody to help you (wheelchair).
Ideal for families, young people, older generations.
