"The only source of knowledge is experience." Albert Einstein…read more These days we live in a world that we need to be attentive to what's happening and going on in the world. Do you watch the news or listen to the radio? Mainstream media is not always the best ways to be abreast on what's going on in the world. Luckily, in all the chaos that we are bombarded with a voice of reason does exist. The logic and rationalism of one such radio personality, Clyde Lewis delivers. We need an understanding and balance in our lives. The big media organizations seem to dictate dogma to terrify our focuses. Beyond all that nonsense is a radio personality that makes you wonder and think outside the box. Our world these days is changing. Here's an example: the great state of California is under water being inundated with massive flooding. If you watch the mainstream media outlets these storms are caused due to climate change. Us as humans are the reason why the weather is so unpredictable and bad. The earth rotates around the sun, as a result our climate anomalies are not caused by "humans" driving their cars. Some damage is being done by humans, but to shut off fossil fuels and go completely "green" is insanity. What about the earth's regular rotations and cycles. How about the sun itself? We are alive on this planet because of the "sun!" Sure we have caused damage to our planet, but driving a car is not going to damage the planet as they say it's doing. Us all driving electric cars is not going to change the climate. Let's all get some common sense. How many nuclear weapons have we denoted in the pursuit of power? The war between the Ukraine and Russia, could that be causing some sort of weather disruptions. Who remembers the weather manipulations we used during Vietnam? All of our problems of the world. We watch the news and stuff just does not make sense. We need a platform that can discuss these topics as adults where we all have our opinions and bias but they are not judged, just discussed. Our world these days are unsettling. We have dreams that are unexplainable. Our universe is unbalanced. Maybe we live in a Matrix that's all made up. Who knows? But if you want a great listen about history, mythology, philosophy, and other topics that get historical reference give Clyde Lewis a listen. Logic and reasoning with great guest speakers. As a radio personality for over twenty five years, he can be compared to Alex Bell. His radio program is called "Ground Zero with Clyde Lewis." His broadcast can be found on the AfterMath app. He hosts the radio program on many different local stations all around the country. Find him on Facebook where he posts about his daily show Monday thru Friday. In our latest and greatest episode we call life nothing seems to be out of the ordinary. Each day brings new possibilities and challenges that could lead us to the brink of disaster. Tune in and have a point of comparison to make those speculations sound and have rationale.

I keep the radio in my room dialed in to KPAM. It is a locally owned radio station that has not…read morebeen consumed by a massive national conglomerate and forced to morph into ACME generic brand radio station. That alone should be celebrated in Portland. "Same Bob, new Job" These were the advertisements all over Trimet buses when I first rolled into Portland in 2003. I was leaving some beloved morning entertainment behind, and I needed something new and local. Quick! I found Bob Miller in the Morning on KPAM and have not looked back. The show is local, intelligent, and downright funny. The Lake Oswego Police Blotter every Friday morning is hilarious! It is run each hour, and I usually catch it at 8:10 a.m. Bob is currently followed by Clark Howard, a nationally syndicated consumer empowerment advocate. I hate big banks. So does Clark. I love to travel. More importantly, I love travel bargains. So does Clark. I love the latest and greatest tech gadgets. So does Clark. Clark and I are a natural fit, old buddies who have never actually met, or spoken. But the bond is there, nonetheless. On the weekends, there is the Handy Randy home improvement show. Randy rocks! There are great tips on how-to projects, interviews with people representing local resources, and more importantly, sage advice about the types of projects you simply should not attempt to do yourself without an electrical or mechanical engineering degree. I admit I occasionally require such a gentle reminder. Finally, there is Dr. Joy Browne, a pragmatic sweetie who inevitably calls everyone "Cookie." In addition to her typical call-in format, she is a huge movie and Broadway buff, so there are segments where she reviews that latest releases in theaters or openings on Broadway. She is passionate and caring and not overly "tough love" (a la Dr. Laura). Her program has been marginalized in recent years on KPAM, but like quarters in the sofa, she can still be found on unexpected occasions, which are usually met with a little "oh!" of delight.

My kids and I miss them terribly on our morning drives. Anyone have any info on this? "Stacey Lynn is the next live voice on Portland, Oregon's "Live 95.5" In the second move to add live DJ's to Portland, Oregon's alternative KBFF-FM this week, PD Keola announces he is bringing in Stacey Lynn as APD/MD, and afternoon DJ. She is the second on-air hire, after Evan "Cabana Boy" Bernstein was hired this week for nights, and much like "Cabana Boy," Lynn is not unfamiliar to Rose City radio listeners. Lynn has been on the air in Portland since 1995, and was a fixture on CHR "Z100" KKRZ-FM. She also worked on the former "Mix 105.7" as APD as well as KXJM-FM, when it was "Movin 107.5." Keola says, "Stacey Lynn has one of the most recognizable voices in Portland radio. Her passion for this format is unmatched and she has such a loyal fan following that we are elated to have her join the Live 95-5 team." Lynn also worked in San Luis Obispo and Stockton, California, as well as Salt Lake City. "

That said, KPSU sucks less. kpsu.org streams their broadcast on the internet 24/7, but if you want to chance the airwaves, take care to listen to 1450 AM only after 5 pm on weekdays. Before 5, the malicious and cunning student geniuses of Benson Polytechnic broadcast their pirate signal featuring show toons and cartoon themes in an effort to discourage you, talented listener, from reaping the joys of college radio. KPSU, alongside KBOO, features a healthy mix of local musicians and off-beat musical selections and radio personalities.

Many places in Portland you will see this radio tower. Council Crest Drive runs between Council…read moreCrest Park and this tower in Healy Heights. You can also usually see the modest City of Portland radio tower in Council Crest Park. If you think of Marquam Hill - Council Crest as a banana laying on its side, the towers are at each end of the banana. Fairmount Blvd. is popular with bicylists and runners, even roller skiers. It is a very squiggly line like a garnish of chocolate sauce around the banana. Further down the mountain of ice cream are the OHSU and Veterans Administration hospitals. I always think its structure is somewhat Eiffel Tower-like but utilitarian. The Healy Heights neighborhood here has several smaller towers and historic towers. Some of the homes were radio studios in the day. Somehow they were re-designed in the Miami art deco style, though the were built between the late 1947s and the mid 1950s. This massive tower was built in anticipation of becoming a new over-the-air TV tower, but the stations went to Sylvan and Miller Road instead. It is made of round pipes filled with concrete, so it is not going anywhere. To reach it, you can walk South on Council Crest Drive, it ends at this tower. It can also be reached by a trail with steps on Fairmount Blvd. between 3147 and 3157. There are warning signs near the tower to be aware that ice could break off the tower and fall on your head. Take that into account in your seasonal planning! There is a more technical history at https://people.well.com/user/dmsml/stonehenge/. Stonehenge Tower is Portland's most stylish transmission tower, and a landmark seen across the city and suburbs. Welcome my 2**10th review.

Thankfully, the station's been sold into local hands again (Alpha Broadcasting) and hopefully will remain fully-staffed. KINK is pretty 'mellow' but at the same time does have hosts and new music that you won't hear anywhere else - except maybe on KNRK 94/7. I stream KINK online from Seattle because frankly, there's no commercial station like it up here. I miss being able to just click on the radio and have a general quality rock song available either on K-I-N-K or on 94/7. Not sure why the station changed their name to "Kink dot FM" while I lived there in 2006, though.
