The coverage of the Rose Parade was the worst I've ever seen, and I've been watching since the early 80's. Some wasn't your fault, but lots was. The two lanes provided for the bands was not large enough. They didn't stop to play and you talked over them sooooo much we didn't get to hear them at all. And when we got to hear them it wasn't the whole band, it was only where the camera was at the time. The rose festival queen wasn't even with her court! The amount of large floats was abysmal because of the route, which was highly over rated. But the biggest bummer was the constant talking, we know you have a script but half of the floats were gone before you got done talking about them and was so disappointed about the coverage of the bands. Some people came a long way and it seemed disrespectful to be talking over them instead of highlighting them. read more

Teachers are essential parts of schools. Their concerns were at the heart of the recent strikes and walkouts. And they deserved the media attention they received. However, parents and students are also important stakeholders. They and their concerns warranted much more than the measly 5 percent of quotes that this report claims they received. This lack of representation of parent and student voices is a major concern not only for those covering teacher strikes but also for education journalism in general. On the Go with Joe is when I have to change the channel when watching Good Day Oregon. I am sure he is a nice guy but I find his on air behavior/personality annoying and over the top. TV news is, for the most part, circling the drain. KPTV is already in the sewer. The worst local news station by a mile, KPTV is both embarrassing and sad. It's all sensation-based features (crime, animals, accidents) that are visually stimulating (car chase, store robbery) and little real news. The station covers a lot of trifling stories that rarely affect anyone except the victim, a victim that is oftentimes across America and nowhere near Portland - first live, LOCAL? No coverage of politics, no analysis, no true journalism. Just 95% garbage (a man in Beaverton who collects pencils) that matters not. This place doesn't provide the full story when it comes to overall reporting. On their website, I have witnessed them delete comments of dissenting viewpoints and commenters providing more information about stories have been silenced or banned as "spammers". During the Portland protests these last few months, the news network has increasingly shown the protest in the most positive light imaginable and not displaying anything during the night protests. KPTV also exhibits racial bias as they only capitalize "Black" and no other race, especially not "white." News is all about TRUST and being neutral and this virtual news outlet needs to reexamine how they moderate their comments section if they are going to have it and how they do their reporting. For that I am giving it one star. read more

The only reason that KPTV get two stars is that waaaaay back in the day I won a trip to Disneyland from this station (before it was KPTV if I'm correct). How killer is that? I was like 9 and I got an ALL expense paid vacay for the entire fam to freakin disneyland. Yeah. It was like winning the 9 year olds lottery. Perfection. Sans winning a trip, KPTV has done nothing for me. It is the MOST sensationalized news channel we have in this town. (NOTE: I am omitting Good Day Oregon from this review). I do appreciate that they pack all their punch in at night during a two hour 10 and then 11 pm broadcast (when I'm least likely to turn on the TV). At least they're not flooding the airwaves with 10 shows at 5 pm. read more

KPTV is amateur at best. Their reporting is superficial and never investigative. The station needs to spend time gathering information for both sides of every story before reporting but being "first" is priority so if one side of the story is all they have at air time, then one side is all that viewers get. read more

Fox 12 is rapidly becoming the most credible, detailed, and wide ranging news station in Portland. Except for Kim, and Andy, who have got to be related to the owners. Shawna, Sophie,and the rest, are very professional. Mark Nelson, is as well informed on the weather as you can get, especially for someone at such a tender young age. Katu is over the hill, except for Rhonda, and the morning crew. Koin, is mis-using Ken Boddie, who would fit in at channel 12 like a glove, as an anchor.It is refrehing to see neutral reporting, instead of the old "Portland Satus Quo". If you could just do something with the morning edition, starting with retiring Kim, and Andy, you might just pull in morning viewers. read more
