I was in the neighborhood. I love how you walk in and things you want aren't hell and gone in the back of the store. Actually are pretty damn close. I needed ham so I got the applewood. Swiss was the Cady Wisconsin that was the cheapest and just as good as any other. A good amount of staff working the deli. The bread was close by. I like that I can get the house artisan brand as a half loaf. Different varieties as well. What I was really there for. I got hooked on Fever-Tree sparkling pink grapefruit water. It's a 4 pack in 6.8 oz. bottles. A small size, but at least it keeps you from feeling bloated. It's delicious and would be a good mixer base. They have a lot of different flavors. This is actually nice to look at. 35 calories and no artificial sweeteners. As you walk in is the cheese in the center. I passed this time, but my favorite brie is the Fromage brand. This seems like a smaller building than others which seems to make it less crazy. The check out experience was most memorable. Two of the coolest staff. One was so colorful, super friendly. She asked if I wanted the receipt. I almost passed then I spotted the thing where you donate your receipt. I donated to a local high school marching band. I was proud of that. The other was younger, still looked like a student who packed and took my bags to the trunk which I popped cause I had to use the rest room on the long schlep back to St. Paul. She seemed like she was glad to be there just to help me out. This makes me want a summer place here. read more

When my little ones are hungry around lunch time after cruising around Excelsior, there is no way they have the patience for a sit down meal. Kowalski's comes in very handy. They have an excellent prepared food section to feed hangry. There is a plethora of options for you to build a lunch. I went to the deli where they had even more food and got a couple of chicken finger meals. They were heaping in chicken tenders, fries and mac & cheese. The prices are good for the amount of food you get. Heck, then you realize there is a supermarket attached, lol and a coffee shop and you can get a lot of odds and ends while you are there. read more

Staff is helpful, stop whatever they are doo g and walk you to the location of that hidden item that was right in front of you but you didn't notice. I went to their 10th anniversary event today! Which is happening today and tomorrow! Can't believe it's been 10 years since it opened in 2015! Love Kowalski's Markets! They have a great team at this store! Love the customer service and the ambiance in here! Love all the food! From Bakery to meat to produce everywhere in the store is fantastic! read more

Skip the birthday cakes! Although my cake looked beautiful, it wasn't what we expected. My hub ordered vanilla buttercream and it came with some weird, gross filling and frosting. Finally figured it out it must have been their "Bavarian cream", ugg! Totally ruined it. Also the Happy Birthday was piped on a placard and stuck to the side of the cake, not on top of it. He'd ordered the champagne cake and apparently it comes with upright "petals" atop it. It was pretty to look at and the cake itself was good but the filling and frosting, beyond gross. read more

Service and selection are superior in every way. From butcher explaining how to cook an item, cheese department with sampling and wonderful serving suggestions to the best breads ever. The gift dept has fabulous finds every time I come to the store and freshest fruits and vegetables. Found me a wine I could not locate anywhere else and called the moment it arrived. Yes it is expensive but this is where you go when you always want the best. read more

Little more in cost than L&B, but the location was convenient. We picked out some tasty items not in the Deli Department (like I thought we would), but in the sushi/rolls area. It was very nice to have everything right there: chopsticks/extra soy sauce/selection of different rolls. Michael at the register was a rock star-finding and adding a rubber band to our packaging (since the packaging probably would have popped open). We enjoyed our alfresco lunch in the park, thanks to Kowalski's (and Michael). read more

Another amazing Twin Cities grocery store. I recently moved up here from Chicago and remain deeply impressed by your choice of grocery stores. Went back a week later and saw more problems (BUSINESSES - FACE SHIELDS OFFER NO PROTECTION FOR YOUR STAFF OR CUSTOMERS). Their contact app has a CAPTCHA that is impossible to get through. This tells me that their management JUST. DOES. NOT. CARE. ABOUT. COVID. Not shopping there again until vaccine. read more

Great store and selection. Staff is always helpful and friendly- I really want to LOVE this store. There is so much crap in the passageways and walking spaces that shoppers are constantly walking into each other- coupled with the fact that most people in this area walk around using their phone, head in the air, and not really paying attention. Some refer to another market as 'whole paycheck'! Take a look at this Kowalski's and let your eyes bulge. No not just the trophy wives that seem to frequent the aisles with big smiles and designer outfit chatting about volunteer efforts and the latest french wine. I checked on the Swedish meatballs in the deli and found they are at least two dollars more than Lunds Byerlys and they are smaller and only four in a container. The market has an almost euro feel as there are transition points, samples, suggestions, neatly uniformed employees. Beautiful breads which you'll bag yourself, (but for no savings), colorful pastries etc. The selection is great but hey I'll head over to Lunds Byerlys any day as long as there is one nearby. read more

After s The patisserie two blocks Away, I stopped here on July 4 at 13:15 to check the place and croissant. It was a very busy place was organized clean and staff seemed to be keeping up with the pressure of July 4 sakes. Croissant was crunchy on outside and buttery inside. I sat by the main street patio. I left this place red faced and furious. It was a great lesson for my children to see what poor lazy service looks like. To the credit of the polite manager I spoke with, she was wonderful and apologized and offered to give me a gift card to which I declined. The following things took place that made me decide in the future to spend my money elsewhere. I am their target demographic customer. Family of 5 that lives 800 yards away that doesn't clip coupons. 1- Not one of the more than 15 employees walking around offered to help me find ANYTHING as I stood there looking lost. 2- Not one of the employees said thank you when we would move for them, nor did they offer to move and make room for us as they restocked shelves and visited among themselves. One young man even sat on his butt as he restocked the dairy section. My 10 year old son even commented on how bad it was. 3- Upon walking to the check out aisle I asked my sons to set the hand baskets down next in line in the area where the basket goes as we went around to the customer side. She not only had the nerve to ask me to lift them up and do her job, she then added to it by asking my son to stand there and hold the next basket and wait till she was done scanning the items until she would take it. I was so amazed I couldn't even respond as the bagger made small talk. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Maybe next time I should put on my fancy outfit and dress nicer to go grocery shopping and I might not be treated like a second class citizen. Note to Ownership....people shop in your store for service, then selection... Price is not their concern (Something you're fully aware of). If you can't differentiate yourself by service you've got no other competitive advantage and you'll drive your business into the ground. read more

The food is always fresh, and the employees are are always helpful and kind. Although it is not the cheapest grocery store it is definitely worth the prices. Every time I got there I find new and exciting things to try and so far I have not been disappointed once. Even if I just need a quick meal Kowalski's is a great choice because of there giant deli with incredible choices that never let you down read more

I love this Kowalski's for providing me a great lunch sandwich/ panini once a week. The staff is nice, the paninis are great and probably the best priced item in the pricy grocery store. Last week the man who rang me up offered napkins and other necessities at the check out. Super convenient. They have a big salad bar that looks very fresh. Kowalski's has great food but at high prices. But the thing that really bugs me about them is that they refuse to stop offering samples in single-use plastic cups with tiny plastic spoons. My friends and I have written to them to ask them to stop doing that, but they just blithely keep doing it. Until they are more environmentally sound, I won't be back. Our oceans are full of microplastics as it is. read more

What a gorgeous store- the produce section is simply beautiful especially from a perch from the upstairs dine-in seating area. It's so nice to have such a fresh bakery so close as well. The Starbucks has an equally impressive bakery selection compared to other Starbucks. Only reason for four stars is consistency. Our first trip on a Tuesday morning (8am), the doughnuts we purchased were so fresh, I would dream about them for days to come. On my second trip, on a Saturday morning (8am) when I assumed they might be even fresher (or just the same), they were stale. I assumed everything was baked fresh daily- maybe so and we got a bad batch but it was a little disappointing. That said, so happy to welcome Kowalski's to Excelsior. I just hope my next doughnut is fresh! read more

Be sure to check out the incredible meat department at Kowalski's in Excelsior. They have prime cuts that are above everyone else's and the Akaushi beef will absolutely make you giggle and laugh when you bite it.
