    Comic books
    Stacie K.

I am an avid reader, but was never really into comic books. However, recently I visited Kowabunga, because I was in the area, and I became truly enamored with the store. I stopped in because I wanted to pickup some comics for the people in my community that visit my little free library and I was blown away by all the education and help that I received. I am so excited to share all the goodies I got from this store and will most certainly come back. It was seriously the best retail experience I've ever had.

While randomly roaming around Oconomowoc's downtown over Memorial Day my boyfriend spotted Kowabunga. He'd seen them at comic book shows and had been wanting to check out the shop so in we went. The shop is well organized, well kept, and just a little claustrophobic in places. Behind the counter they had a wide range of graded books in cases and there was a lively role-playing game going on despite it being a holiday weekend. I appreciated that the store was bright and sunny and that they had the front doors open to let in the summer air. The best part about Kowabunga is probably the staff. They addressed me as my own, unique human (not always the case when I accompany my boyfriend into comic shops) and were genuinely interested in what we were looking for. This isn't actually my scene so I didn't have a whole lot of input, but one of the gentlemen (who seemed like an owner) had a nice chat with my boyfriend while I browsed. If we find ourselves in Oconomowoc again I'm sure we'll be back!

I stop in every week to pick up my comic books and I'm always greeted with a smile and a hello from the owners. Together they have both created an atmosphere of awesome for anyone who wants to learn a new game, join and ongoing game league or just to buy a few comics. I've never found a better store to get my geek on.

My boyfriend has been a regular at the store for years, and I went with him to pick up his pull list this past weekend. There were people chatting at the counter when we came in, so Carla didn't see that I was with anyone when I entered the store. She was sure to ask me if I needed help with anything, which is a first in the slew of comic and game shops I've been to recently. The shop is set up with different rooms devoted to your interest, with comics in one wing and games in another, and more general books and collectibles merchandise in the main room where you enter. If you head to the back, you'll find space for game playing and where Don is organizing his back stock of comics. The shop on the whole is bright and colorful, and I felt totally welcome to browse. Don and Carla had a nice word for everyone who came in the store, and it was pretty clear that they have a small army of loyal customers. The outside of the store isn't much to look at - it's situated in an industrial-looking strip mall - but don't let that deter you from the checking out their cozy shop. Even if you're not a full-on geek, there are still things for you here - several of their games are great for a game night with friends.

Someone…read moreat the store even told me a product hadn't come out yet that was supposed to release on my birthday I saw it at other stores, and it had released on time. I was told by the staff repeatedly it was pushed back for release. When I brought it up for the 6th time, they finally decided to get the product ordered that I had paid for in advance. RECENTLY. I went back to this store thinking it couldn't have been worse than that. I bought some Dragon Shield sleeves that were manufactured to be a few mm too small for standard cards. When I went to address the issue with the store they told me to take care of it online with the manufacturer rather than swapping the product. I was told "If nothing is damaged on the box we don't handle it." Now I'm emailing the manufacturer as I was told... and finding out the manufacturer does not replace product, but offers reimbursements ONLY IF THE STORE IN QUESTION IS UNWILLING TO HELP. In other words your store should have handled the issue and refused to by admission of the manufacturers own policy. Your employee either lied, or just was unwilling to help. Thanks for taking my $20 for sleeves no refunds. Assholes.

The best deals for Pokémon are their mystery tins, which have 50 cards, and include 10 rare and/or holo cards for $9.99. They also have a huge glass case for GX and EX cards if there's something you're looking for. Really incredible to me, though, is the fact that they have a website, kryptonitekollectibles.net, where you can order single cards, and they'll ship! Love that! This place mainly specializes in Magic the Gathering, but they have a ton of board games, cards, dice, and sports memorabilia. I could spend hours here just looking around! Also great customer service! Definitely worth the drive from Madison!

It was late and most everything was closed, but this place looked so cool we came back the next morning. I am so glad we did, what an amazing place, to call it just a store is not giving it its proper due. This is the coolest collectable/toy store I have ever seen. It will be a regular stop when we are anywhere near here. It's part museum and part collector's wet dream. Rows and rows and pegs of figures of every era and genre. I could have spent a lot of money here, and to that the prices are pretty reasonable. If you know anyone who's into pop culture or toys or action figures...wanna be a hero, take them here. It's worth a road trip....trust me! Amazing store, nice people, a true treasure.

Freaktoyz is an absolute gem in Sheboygan featuring near everything the average person could think of in the toy, collectible gaming, and retro-video game worlds. If you are looking for that elusive figure for He-man, TMNT, GI Joe, Pokemon, pick your winner, this could very well be your place. I could have wandered this store for hours and easily emptied my wallet. Worth the stop even just to experience the place, and they definitely have their merch game down. As far as prices go, you may want to shop around the web a little, but most seem to be right around average collectible prices and even if it is a dollar or two more you get to walk out with it in hand. Awesome store. Will return and send ALL my friends AND YOU!

I spied the goofy face on the side of the barn from the freeway and am a sucker for toys, so we detoured to take a peek. I really liked the rustic interior; it gave it some charm that not a lot of toy stores necessarily have. The inside wasn't too overwhelming or overstimulating, and there was a variety of items available for sale, most notably: toddler toys, puzzles and games, playmobile, science/outdoor stuff, plushies, and candy. The selection wasn't overly abundant, and I think they could probably do more with their square footage, if they wanted to. I thought it was cute they had a little nook with a table and chairs and a "game of the week" sort of set up so you could try it out if you wanted. The employee working there was friendly and sweet. I got a small plush Douglas brand fox (because I collect fox plushies and I didn't have that particular design yet). In the basement they apparently sell bait and tackle, which is sorta hilarious. As it was winter when we stopped in, the ice cream attachment was not selling. Rats! Maybe next time we head to WI?
