Our server, Chaniece, absolutely made the experience. I told her I wanted to order some of the most authentic Spanish dishes on the menu, and she came through perfectly. She was knowledgeable, friendly, attentive, and genuinely seemed excited to help us experience the restaurant. If you have questions about the menu, ask for her recommendations--you won't be disappointed. My partner ordered Martin's Breakfast Burrito, and I had the huevos rancheros. Both were fresh, flavorful, and exactly what we were hoping for. Michael's Kitchen is only open Wednesday through Sunday from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., so plan accordingly. We arrived around 9:30 on a Sunday morning and had about a 30 minute wait. It was busy, but the wait was actually enjoyable because the restaurant has several little nooks filled with antiques and artwork by local artists. There was plenty to look at, and the time passed quickly. Taos has many wonderful mom and pop restaurants, but from what I learned during our visit, there are fewer locally owned restaurants serving traditional Spanish cuisine. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to try all of them, but I'm very happy we chose Michael's Kitchen. Between the authentic food the welcoming atmosphere and Chaniece's outstanding service, it was one of the highlights of our visit to Taos.

They kept our drinks full! We ordered stuffed Sopapillas, burgers and banana nut pancakes! So delicious and we're so full!!

Amazed at how even the most down to earth dishes are elevated in such a tasteful (elegant AND…read moredelicious) way. Absolutely love the commitment to low waste and locally sourced ingredients. Lovely energy and collaboration from the head chef Kualani, and the staff are all very professional. Excellent experience!

We came across Chef Kualani's page and I am endlessly grateful that we did because the entire process could not have been more perfect. From the very beginning, Kualani was incredibly warm, communicative, and endlessly accommodating. She was open to any requests we had but also came up with the most unbelievable seasonal menu for the dinner (because I had no idea where to start). Dealing with her was a pleasure each and every time and she helped me go through all the details so that nothing was forgotten. And the dinner.... THE DINNER. The food was absolutely incredible. I'm still thinking about her spring pea soup with truffle oil. Every course was fantastic. But Kualani is not just a chef, she is a true hostess. She and her partner Richard came into our AirBnb and handled literally EVERYTHING. She brought beautiful plates and flatware so we didn't have to rely on the AirBnb's stash. She decorated the table. She even made my niece a grilled cheese sandwich while she was prepping. And then, at the end of one of the best meals of my life, they cleaned everything up and left the kitchen better than they found it. Having worked in restaurants and catering for many years, I know first-hand that chefs are not always hospitable. It is a completely different skill set and it's the reason restaurants need a front-of-house staff. But Kualani is the rare exception that is truly capable of curating a perfect evening. She has the most amazing energy and could not have been happier with our entire experience. The dinner absolutely made my mother's birthday and I cannot recommend her highly enough.

We were the only people in the restaurant, for some reason, not sure if they've been open for dinner for long. I guess because it's off the main highway and it's not prime season here. We did see a couple of cars at the drive-up and people were busy in the kitchen. The young man who took care of us was very nice. I ordered a specialty item, Phien-thye, which is frybread with ground bison, smothered in green or red chili, with sides of pinto beans, and a veggie medley of corn and zucchini. My husband had stuffed frybread with chicken and beans with rice and a small salad. Both dishes were tasty, but not heated enough. I sent mine back and it came back hot. The server apologized. I give top ratings to the green chili and the sides. They were delicious. With so many five star ratings, we hoped to have our socks knocked off. But it was still good. And nice to have some frybread. Both dishes resembled burritos, which I expected. And again, both were tasty. We had a vanilla and wild plum milkshake to go, which was yummy. They have mountain scenery out the windows which is lovely. It's a casual place and the people we met were friendly. I'd go back for breakfast or a burger next time.
