The previous year, we selected granite at Hawaiian Ceramic Tile and luckily made three choices (and took photos). It took a year to find a local contractor who would commit to the job. Mark was the man for the job. He kept in touch during the summer as he worked around our schedule. In September, he got the work done. We selected faucets on the Mainland while making sure there were plenty of them listed on the Kahului Home Depot website. The results are perfect and even better than we could visualize. (We had picked three granite patterns knowing that not all would be available by the time we got the work done. Only one pattern was left.) A bonus was that Mark thoughtfully kept three of the custom tiles from the original counter. We loved those tiles and now have three great coasters. The Drake Landscape Experience with Tau Masonry…read more I will start out by saying we chose Tau Masonry before seeing the other Yelp reviews. I am a Yelp Elite member so I'm more surprised than anyone that I didn't come here first. Ultimately, I'm happy I didn't. I never would have chosen them based on the reviews. That's sad because so many local small businesses are struggling right now and need our support and faith in them. Is Tau Masonry perfect? Nope! Are are any of us? Nope! Was it messy and did it seem like forever to get done? Yes! Did I cry a couple times? Yes! But, are we happy with the result? ABSOLUTELY! Here's our story... February 2021 we were approved by our Homeowners Association to add rock walls and concrete around our property in Moana Estates, Kihei. We interviewed many companies but found it challenging to select the right company, one that was licensed and insured which was required by our HOA. Some companies never responded after the first visit. Some never could produce documentation of being licensed. Our last interview was with Tau Masonry. A gentleman, PJ, came to the house to walk the property and review our plan. He was persistent to get our business. He brought the owner of the company, Tau, on the next visit to walk the property and discuss the plan with him. Tau brought his license and insurance. That was reassuring. We signed a contract and put our faith and trust in them. The project did have its typical delays (weather, equipment glitches) and the project turned out to be bigger and more extensive than we originally set out for. Ultimately, we are very pleased with our results. It's better than our original plan as Tau had great suggestions along the way. We get daily raves about it from our neighbors. Just yesterday a neighbor said "Wow, this is looking incredible, palatial even." For us to be happy with our project is very important. We have very high standards and expectations but to have others compliment it makes our hearts swell. The entire team at Tau Masonry are pros. Again, they aren't perfect but no one is. They were all kind, honest and when I say hard working, I want to emphasize - very, very hard working! I watched their progress daily as I work from home and I saw this entire project unfold with my own eyes. Every rock hand placed with forethought, 3 tiered levels up. If the guys were uncertain or had a question, they would ask us. They all communicate very well with Tau as well. If I would talk to Tau about something, it didn't go unnoticed that the guys were updated right away, and vice versa. Payments were dispersed fairly and appropriately as they needed in order to purchase material. The project took nearly 3 months to complete so our suggestion is to go into your project prepared to double the estimated completion date. They told us one month so I can understand the complaints of others but we live on Maui and we have to remember this is not easy work, it's can't and shouldn't be rushed. I learned a lot about patience, which I struggle with. I would also highly recommend keep the men hydrated with Gatorade or water. We made sure to have a cooler ready for them. Occasionally I would buy them lunch or bring them snacks. They became our friends and the hardest working friends we have. We do fully recommend Tau Masonry. It will likely be a messy ride mixed with flying dirt and times of unbearable noise, but these men are artists, very skilled and if nothing else made our home feel like a palace to us. The process isn't fun and if you chose them you can call me and vent, I've been there. We are giving them 5 stars because they truly deserve it! Twice I asked them to fix something I wasn't totally thrilled with and they pulled through and did it for me. Great Job Tau Masonry Team! They gave us a quality proposal, complete with drawing (needed for approval by our home owners association). They executed the job quickly and professionally. They also did a great job cleaning up after themselves. The finished wall looks very good. More importantly, during the past two storms (Hurricane Lane and Tropical Storm Olivia) water did not pool up in the area in the back of the house, even though it rained very hard in our area.
