When we visited in April, the paint was literally still wet in the cafe. What joy awaited us at every turn! We were greeted warmly and enthusiastically by staff members who clearly took enormous pleasure and pride in orienting us to the breadth and depth of material the museums offer. Staff even tipped us to a noon service at Telemann's own church down the road where we could hear his organ. Time spent with this collection of museums will broaden the understanding and appreciation of not only composers CPE Bach, Telemann, Hasse (who was new to us) as well as Fanny and Félix Mendelssohn but the instruments they wrote for and played and historical context in which they lived and worked. The audio programs throughout the museums allow visitors to hear compositions while reading highly informative narratives and seeing replicas of period instruments. We spent the better part of a day there and could have lingered even longer in conversation with knowledgable amd generous curators. The setting is charmed, as are the gardens. read more
