Chocolate Shop perfect for picking up souvenirs and gifts for family and friends.

If you're a fan of Willy Wonka and eating chocolate, then this is the place for you in Hamburg, Germany! Upon entering the Chocoversum, you immediately notice a very handsome chocolate shop with plenty of room for gathering large groups before the tour. I went with my family and we were able to get a group rate, which was good with several adults and children. I highly advise scheduling a tour in advance, and if you need an English speaking guide, make sure to requests this well beforehand. Tours here are generally conducted in German, so take note of this. The tour begins with an amazing milk chocolate fountain. It is literally about five feet tall and has spouts on the side where you can sample as much as you want with a wafer cookie. From there you'll get a full explanation of the history and cultures of chocolate. The different regions, countries, and continents that produce chocolate are fairly well represented with maps, and written materials. If you are a chocoholic, you will be jumping for joy as you enter the production room. This is the place where you'll be able to make your own customized chocolate bar, complete with over a dozen toppings ranging from marshmallows to raisins and gummy bears! Make sure to specify whether you'd like to make a milk or dark chocolate bar, as the tour guide will pour a fresh one in a mold for you. After you've made your own chocolate bar, you'll then proceed to additional displays of how the actual chocolate is made, along with a variety of machines involved in process. The offer a couple of additional samples for tasting from the machines and end with a small package piece you can take home with you. As you exit the tour, you'll enter in the showroom with plenty of options to buy souvenirs, gifts, and additional chocolates. Enjoy!

We were able to book a last minute tour here in English. The guide was very informative and taught us a lot about the whole chocolate making process. We also got to taste the chocolate at different forms in the process and make our own bar to take home. If you're planning on visiting, I would recommend booking early, as there are not as many English tours available. Another bonus is that the bathroom here is FREE.

Chocolate Museum Tour is normally in German but the entire group spoke English so thank goodness the guide was able to do it in English. Made our own chocolate bars, learned about the fascinating history and process of how cocoa is produced and eventually made into the sweet sweet chocolate we know today. Worth the money! Loved learning about all of the history and procedures/stages of making chocolate.

CHOCOLATE HEAVEN! Yes, this is a chocolate lover's dream. It's a chocolate museum and factory with a large specialty chocolate shop attached. Hachez chocolate is the magic brand that runs this museum and boy, is it amazing. They have few tours in English (as well as other languages, depending on the season) so make sure you get one in your preferred language as it's a word-heavy tour and you won't understand much if you don't have a full grasp of German. If you have a larger group, you can always contact them for private tours. I've been three times and every time the tour guides were lovely and super excited (who wouldn't be, working with chocolate all day) and very knowledgable. They walk you trough the history of cocoa and chocolate first, you may even get to try a raw, unprocessed cocoa bean straight from the pod! They taste surprisingly citrussy, actually. Not like cocoa at all, or at least the processed cocoa we're accustomed to. Then you're led into their labratory! Which is a large kitchen area where you get to decorate your own bar of chocolate. Upon buying your tour ticket, you can also pay for an extra bar (one bar is included with every entry ticket) and it's well worth it. I get the extra bar every time and make one for a friend or family member. They use high quality milk chocolate and there's a huge selection of toppings for you to use, from sprinkles over gummy bears to praline crumble, coconut flakes and chocolate chips, nuts and more. You get to fully customize how much and what you want to put on your chocolate bar(s). After your visit to the laboratory, it's off to the second part of the tour. Here you find out how the process of making raw cocoa beans into actual chocolate works. You're introduced to all methods and machinery and get to sample a lot of the products on the way. And by sample I absolutely mean pig out as they're really generous with their samples if you're nice about it! After the tour concludes you get to wrap your hand decorated bar of chocolate yourself and take it home with you. If it makes it home before ending up in your stomach, that is. The tour might seem a bit on the expensive side, but it's worth every single penny and more. I come back here way too often...

Really amazing place. If you arrive early, you can look in the gift shop (lots of chocolate, recipe books, and chocolate related things). The auto museum is also nearby. I took the English tour and it was really great. There are a lot of chocolate tastings along the way (think every time you stop you try something) and our guide was extremely helpful in answering all questions and very interesting (and spoke very good and clear English). Making your own chocolate bar is very fun (and you can sample the add-ons). It's also really interesting to try the chocolate at all steps of its preparation. I would definitely recommend doing this if you're in Hamburg. Be aware that you have to buy tickets for the tour time you want online (no rescheduling). I've left out pictures of the samples themselves because it's more fun to be surprised by them.

My girlfriend is a chocolate lover, so when she visited Hamburg we knew we had to visit this museum. As with anything, it is all about expectations. We come from Costa Rica, a cocoa-producing country, so we knew that maybe our minds were not going to be exploted with new exciting information, but we wanted to have a different view of how chocolate is percieved in other countries, and of course.. eat some chocolate! And that we did! Regarding the language, we got there on a Sunday afternoon, and there were no more English tours available, so we had to go with the German one (I'm learining some, so took it as a challenge). We were offered a written guide in English for EUR 2.5 deposit which covers most of what the guide says. The tour consists of a combination of talks from the guide, hands on chocolate making, and lots of tastings of the cocoa seeds, and chocolate in all of its various stages of production. They guide was very friendly and knowledgeable, and even stayed with us for a while at the end explaning anything in English what we didn't understand. The gift shop is amazing (if you are a chocolate lover) with everything chocolate: choco pasta, choco pesto, choco beers.. you name it. Overall, a great activity for a rainy Sunday afternoon in Hamburg. We definitely recommend it to any chocolate fan.

Tours cost around €15 per person, which seemed a bit much at first. The tour lasted around 90 minutes, and we took the English one (there is one English tour M-F per day and two on the weekend days). It walked us through the process to make chocolate and offered 7 samples throughout the process from bean to wrapped chocolate which they made throughout the tour. Our guide was awesome, and made the whole thing well worth it. Also, we got to decorate our own bar of chocolate to take home as a souvenir.
