While recovering the nurse (assistant?) kept coming in to talk to me while I was calming my daughter who was scared and crying (bad reaction to anesthesia) and after 15 minutes told us it was time to leave. My daughter was still scared and shaking and couldn't walk without us fully supporting her weight and almost dragging her to the car. I took my other 2 kids to Dakota Valley in Lakeville and they were fantastic and gave us a private space to recover for 40 minutes. What a big difference it makes to have staff give you plenty of time and make sure you are comfortable and answer all questions before you leave.

My appointment only got as far as the lobby. I ended up leaving after filling out my intake forms…read morebecause I felt like Candice, the receptionist, was very belittling and rude. I was coming straight from work and, because I was already running late, I called ahead to make sure I could still be seen. She asked if I had completed my forms, but I wasn't sure because I had rescheduled the appointment so long ago. She confirmed they hadn't been completed, so I asked if it was okay for me to come in, fill them out, and still be seen despite being late. She said yes, although she begrudgingly mentioned that I was the last patient of the day. I told her I was only a few minutes away since I work right in town. When I arrived, I started filling out the forms and asked if I could sit down to complete them. She sarcastically replied that I should, considering they were five pages long. It was clear she wasn't happy that I was late, so I tried to fill them out as quickly as possible. I then had to ask for another copy of the first page. She repeated my question in a criticizing tone, thinking I was asking for a photocopy. I clarified that I needed a new first page to fill out and then asked for a copy of the privacy notice because I had to sign that it had been provided to me. Again, she responded in a criticizing tone. She then asked if I was almost finished because she didn't think the doctor was going to wait for me. I asked what time the office closed, and she said the last appointment was at 3 p.m. When I clarified that I meant what time the actual office closed, she responded with a hostile attitude that they close when the last patient leaves and continued to say that my appointment should have only taken 15 minutes. I explained that I wished the documents had been emailed to me beforehand so I could have completed them in advance. That's when I found out that my email address and phone number had actually been entered incorrectly into the system, so I never would have received them anyway. At that point, I decided to leave and call back to reschedule. I had been putting this appointment off for a long time, and dental appointments are already very uncomfortable for me, so making this appointment was a big mental hurdle. I really didn't want to leave and have to start the process over, but I also didn't want to continue feeling like I was a nuisance. I completely understand that I was late, but that's why I called ahead to make sure I could still be seen. If the office couldn't accommodate me, I would have preferred to simply be told that I needed to reschedule and that I should complete the intake forms beforehand so the process would be quicker next time. I'm now hesitant to try going back, not only because I would have to miss work again, but because I don't want to put myself through that experience a second time. I hope this feedback can be taken seriously, because no patient should leave their first interaction with an office feeling humiliated.
