We love Dr Burton!…read more Last year, before we got married, we decided to go see someone for "pre-marital" type of counseling to ensure that we started off married life on the right foot. I don't remember how we chose Dr Burton, but we both felt that we'd ended up with a great situation. He is very easy to talk to and immediately puts you at ease in his office. We mostly went together, but I went alone for one appointment and felt just as comfortable. It's also quite easy to schedule appointments- he doesn't have a receptionist or anything, but you can email him directly and he'll tell you when he has availability. Very easy! His new office is actually located on 1100 E, around 1500 S, in a new building right next to Whispers Cafe. If you're in the market for any sort of counseling or just want someone to talk to, Dr Burton is highly recommended!

I personally witnessed him weirdly, and inappropriately show up and monitor me during my child custody exchange with a clipboard and earpiece. Conduct that is deeply concerning and far outside the scope of any licensed therapist. I also personally discovered fraudulent billing. I initiated a formal audit with my insurance provider and the billing fraud was confirmed. Always verify every service billed to your insurance matches the care you actually received and that claims are not being resubmitted and paid out multiple times. Make of that what you will when deciding who you trust with your mental health care.

I knew my insurance wouldn't cover the visits 100% so I was watching for a statement of any kind. After a couple months, I got a text or a call from Mr. Scott (not his billing person) stating I had a balance. I was happy to oblige and set up recurring bi-weekly payments from my HSA account. Eventually I discontinue using Mr. Scott for counseling and because I received no further communication about a balance on my account I am under the impression that my bill has been paid in full. Almost an entire year later I receive a statement saying I still owe nearly the entire balance!!!! I was shocked and was told it was an error on their part. I am annoyed at best but I'm told I'm contractually obligated to pay this bill. I was given the option to pay monthly payments and since my HSA funding has now been spent on other medical bills it is the only option. The option was given in June with no deadline or start date for payments. There was no additional information sent and I started making payments as quickly as I was financially able to - in August. I live on a very tight budget. I have been consistently paying and when I received my most recent statement his wife (and new billing person) charged me a late fee. I emailed about it immediately and had to ask 3 times before finally receiving a response several weeks later. They just said I made my first payment late and I was charged. I am a reasonable person and I understand that stuff happens, but this is ridiculous. When your office makes mistakes, it's on your office. When you offer a solution to help the people you have done a disservice to, be specific about the terms. When a client reaches out to you, respond quickly. I am very disappointed in the way this issue has been handled. I strong discourage anyone from going to Rubicon Counseling Services simply based on the lack of office management and understanding that their own office's mistakes are causing people a lot of stress and trouble (ironic, because they seek his services to learn to manage stress and hard times).

Second off, this facility does NOT check belongings. At least when I went they sure didn't. I had over 100 razor blades in my belongings. They simply opened my suitcase, looked, and said "you're good". I had cut my leg open once. Needing stitches. I was then refused medical attention, I even gave my 1:1 sitter the razor blade and she scoffed and laughed at the wound. I only received medical attention and stitches after I cut my leg open a second time, even deeper this time. You'd think after doing this they'd search the room, belongings, everything, well they did. And did extremely poorly at that. I was so desperate to escape this facility I had swallowed 4 razor blades that they did not confiscated in order to leave. Mind you, I was still on a 1:1 sitter, meaning a staff member watched me swallow a razor blade. He didn't report it either until I went to nursing and told them I had swallowed razors. And even then they scoffed and chuckled at the idea. It's funny how they claim to accommodate disabilities, yet forced me to write as a communication method. I have mutism. I cannot speak. I was PROMISED I'd be allowed a communication device (a device I can text to speak on). When I arrived they took my speaking device away, and gave me a white board, that they would take anytime I "spoke poorly". Aka quite literally taking away my ability to communicate. They illegally denied my task trained service dog to come with me. Yet allow staff to bring their untrained pet dogs to this facility, who on my first day there, got in a huge fight in the middle of the corridors. I came out of this facility more traumatized, more "broken" than when I went in. I fully realized no one gives a fuck, and these people do anything in their power to get money by preying on families desperate for help. You will destroy your child by sending them here. I literally would rather of died, a horrific painful death. Then of spent another minute at this facility. I am absolutely disgusted this place has remained open for so long. If you are knowingly sending your child here, I PRAY they never have contact with you again. This place is so ungodly abusive it's not even funny.
