A great boat mechanic is not easy to find. I called Quality Craft from a google search and Earl was…read morevery helpful and honest in giving me a quote to fix my '97 Mariner engine. He was very accommodating despite the busy boating season and was able to complete the job on time for less than he estimated the cost. On Sunday, following the maintenance he performed I had an important question and shot him an email. He called immediately even though his shop is closed on Sunday. I won't take my boat anywhere else.

I told him I had a trip planned and needed it ASAP. Earl said he had a gently used part at the shop he could use or he could order me a new one. I told him I was fine with the used one. Earl did the work and didn't even charge me for the part, just the labor. Just recently I was on Lake Monroe and the alarm was going off on the boat and I couldn't figure out why. After about 30 minutes of trouble shooting and my girlfriend yelling at me, I called Earl and he was able to diagnose the problem over the phone and tell me how to fix it. From my experience at Quality Craft I'd say the service has been very professional and honest and I will continue to take my boat there for any maintenance.

He was even eager to learn why we wanted this motor, called the company because he's didn't know such a motor existed and get us the motor from the manufacturer. He suggested a different size propeller to match the jon boat, gave us the propeller for free and offered to have a mechanic shape and adjust the propeller for no additional charge. Because we didn't have a trailer for the boat, he offered to loan us one - again for free. We were so thrilled and enjoyed working with him. The minus 1 star is for the female manager whose name I decided to forget since she practically reneged on everything Rock offered us. Rock wasn't there when we came to pick-up the motor. She made us feel like we were asking an awful lot for only ordering a $2,500.00 motor and assured us the propeller was fine that came with the motor and that we could figure out how to shape and adjust it ourselves. She looked greatly annoyed and put out when we asked if we could borrow a trailer. My parent-in-laws were with us, and I could tell my father-in-law was growing very angry at how she was treating us, and my mother-in-law looked really hurt. I think if this took any longer, my FIL was going to buy us a new boat to prove to her that even if we couldn't afford it, he could. After all, he was the one buying us the motor.

When they asked our family if we wanted to go boating one weekend, the answer was a resounding YES. From their house, we passed about three marinas to get to this one. I didn't understand it at the time, but now I do! Everyone at this marina was friendly, helpful, and the actual dock was clean. There wasn't a huge wait to get unloaded or to load back up after we were done. Everything was organized and efficient!

I first met John while he was working at Nygaard's, and from the moment I met him, I felt like I was in good hands. John is not just a mechanic--he's a master of his craft and a genuinely good person who truly cares about helping people. I have a convertible Nissan 370Z whose top decided not to close. Instead of the dealership (that's another review), I knew that I could trust John to assess the issue and provide his honest recommendation. He took the time to explain everything clearly and made sure I understood what needed to be done and why. He advised that this wasn't a repair that he could do. He took the time to reach out to a fellow shop owner to see if they could handle the repair. They couldn't, however, John was able to secure some highly respected shops I could call that specialize in this type of work. On top of that, he followed up to explain that if the shop secured used parts, the warranty would be the same as new and less expensive! His honesty and integrity are rare in this industry, and his expertise is unmatched. If you're looking for someone who treats your car like his own and treats you with respect, kindness, and professionalism, John is your guy. This shop is a gem, and I'll never go anywhere else. Highly recommend!
