I would say that it's quite a friendly pub and that it caters for everybody including students, adults, OAP's and workers. They have a wide range of draught and bottled beers, a range of house wines, a range of bottled beers and a full bar of spirits. They're food ranges from baked potatoes through to steaks and pies and are served as traditional pub food, i.e., it fills the gap but is nothing A-La-Carte! I wouldn't recommend this place for a rowdy night out, it's more as pub you can go for a chat and a meal and a few games of pool with a mate. The service is friendly and the beer sinks down a treat!

What can I say about this pub that Facebook hasn't already done?…read more I can say for sure that the current management have done a sterling job of running a tight ship, and are always happy to mix with their regular clientele. Live music is always good there, along with the occasional visit from members of the sundowners, who have the odd jam session of a weekend to entertain the locals. Even though the pub is small, (not as small as its neighbours at the plasterers arms), it does have the space for a pool table, dart board, Juke box and double sided bar. Which makes it a comfortable yet cozy place to spend an evening or two, enjoying ales and music until home time rears its sometimes unwanted self. The pub is situated just off the main high street in Hoylake, but is a mere stones throw from the promenade, so you can enjoy a lovely view along with fish and chips, before your evening drink. They have a number of draught beers and ales, as well as boasting a huge beer garden behind the pub which is absolutely perfect for a sunny afternoon! The toilets also ooze tradition, looking as though they are as old as the oldest punter, but they are clean enough! This is a great place to relax and read the paper in the daytimes if you're trekking around West Kirby, and it's a bit classier than Wetherspoons!

Full of cheap drinks with plenty of tables and it's always easy to find a seat. When the pub's full you can end up waiting quite a while for food, we have waited for almost an hour before! It's a fairly friendly pub and you can expect to see a vast array of regulars queuing up outside at 9am to get their tot of morning whiskey to read the paper with. You can then expect to see them drink the day away, occasionally singing! It's a good place to get tanked up before you jump on the train to Liverpool from the station opposite, and it's surrounded by other bars and restaurants should you want to move around a bit!

Since the change in Landlord there has been a noticeable drop in quality of the beer - its not unusual to find a duff pint. Its become louder,with TV screens and loud music. That said its still a proper pub. The food is adequate and filling and its still the pub on Market St.
