We requested for a day to use the spa facilities with sauna n steam room Located at the Hilton Waikoloa. You don't need to take the tram for the boat to the location. If you enter the hotel from the main lobby- take a left and keep on walking and you'll run into Kohala Spa. It's located downstairs. If needed, there are elevators that you can take. If you enter from the parking lot - drive in take a right all the way to the gate. You can use your room key for entrance and that will be the Spa. They have a steam room and sauna.... The Jacuzzi's have been down since Covid. The showering facilities are nice and clean towels are offered as well as water and cold cloths. The lockers have slippers and a robe. Available or soaps and lotions and cleansers. The $25 daily price is worth hanging out! Great quality items offered. read more

The vibe was very calming and they had showers, lockers, water, tea, and a sauna and steam room to use before and after our massage. Everything was perfect! My wife & I visited Kohala Spa during our recent vacation. After a long week of walking and touring around the Big Island , a couples massage sounded fantastic. We checked in and were led to the locker rooms where there were plush robes and slides to wear. The massages were fabulous. I had some neck and knee pain and took advantage of the CBD treatment. Afterwards we had ample time to utilize the steam room and sauna in our respective locker rooms. We left feeling relaxed and ready for the rest of our vacation! read more

The lady that gave me a massage was a little creepy. She was chanting. Definitely a mood killer. After the massage I couldn't walk bc of whatever she did to my back. It ruined the remainder of the vacation because I didn't get to enjoy without pain. When booking I told them about the hgv fuest discount and was never told anything about a mandatory charge of 20% and was quoted a price before discount. I presented my 15% off for being an HGV and after i was told there was a MANDATORY GRATUITY of 20% which made the 15% void. She also didn't know I had given cash to my person that delivered my massage. So my tip was 40%. $100 tip on a $175 service. A gratuity should NEVER be mandatory should be as a thank you for the service . There was no signs or anything saying there would be a surcharge, fee or mandatory gratuity. Terrible customer service. My 73 year old mom had major stomach issues and couldn't make her appointment but called ahead to tell them. They still charged her and later wouldn't let her use my reservation a of couple days later...she'd have to still pay again but with a 30% discount. As a licensed massage therapist myself, I think the whole experience at this spa was terrible, we've never been treated this way and I'd never recommend this place. I went in, I was told it's a body reflexology and I said no because I am pregnant and I can lay in that position. So after that J was told I can't get the reflexology as pressure points may affect pregnancy so just given a "Moisturizing massage". Bloody hell! I paid $195 for a foot reflexology that I did not get and when I told them front desk/staff she said oh how about your add on head massage? She didn't say anything and just asked me to pay that $195 Plus tax and tip etc. Hey HILTON, go get yourself some trained staff and forget that I would ever want to join your digesting Honors club. I have so much to say about your services but mostly you just want the money. You don't care about quality or service or satisfaction. The ambiance of the spa is decently nice. It is attached to the Hilton which made it convenient to the shops and amenities located at the hotel. Prior to the massage, you go to the locker's room to change into the robes and there are nice branded products to use (hairspray, deodorant, mouth wash, lotion) - there even is a shower if needed. In the waiting lounge, there is a mini water and tea station along with heating neck/shoulder pad to use while you wait for your service. The quality of the massage was really good. We booked a couple's massage (one male, one female) for 80 minutes. I personally got a deep tissue massage from the female masseuse. And she did an amazing job, definitely could have had her massaging me longer, but the next day typically after an intense massage you could feel very sore, however I did not feel sore and felt like the tension was quite relieved. Overall, I would say if you're on vacation and want to splurge on a spa & massage experience - this is one of the few places that could give you the luxury experience. However, be prepared to spend quite a bit as service is quite expensive. read more

The spa also texted me the day prior and asked how many weeks along I was in order to prepare for my massage - that put my mind at ease! More applause for the amazing Adele (the queen of lomi lomi), the exceptional Estelle (who runs a wonderful restorative yoga class), and the generally relaxing atmosphere...anytime there's not a gaggle of a group together. Most days, the spa is quite empty, and so even though the facilities are limited you can enjoy complimentary bliss if you're staying in the Hilton's Makai Tower even if you don't have a treatment. But it's sufficiently small so that if there is a group of women together for a spa day who want to be loud and chat, it kind of ruins the atmosphere. Last time I came I had restorative yoga all to myself; this time the Hatha yoga filled up with thirteen people and we were four in restorative yoga. Still, I had a good 5 out of 6 blissful days to enjoy the lava rock whirlpool, sauna, streamroom, lounge chairs and special showers. There are fancier spas at many resorts - but the classes and treatments here (if you get one of their better therapists) can't be beat, just like the price (free if you're staying here!) of enjoying the facilities for the day. read more

OMGOSH............I felt so amazing afterwards and she even told me about local places to eat "real island" food!!!! My cousin said that I was glowing afterwards and I felt like all the stress of LA was released in a 50 minute spa... and my feet were as soft as a baby's skin!!! OMG! Best experience! We had champagne waiting for us after our scrub. Then we walked down to the ocean and had our relaxation massages! The view was so breathtaking! The sound of the ocean and the birds! I was in heaven! Beth my masseuse was so wonderful with her hands. The best part was the scalp massage with Guava! My head smells so yummy! Bestie had Brandon who actually we had last time when @djtomas7 and I had our massages. Walked back to the spa facility and had more champagne waiting. Next is facials! While we were sitting having champagne another couple of ladies said omg great idea. Didn't know they had champagne. I said tell Katy! Me and my partner were really excited to try the advertised amenities, such as an adult only hot tub and relaxation area. For reference, this resort has two hot tubs, next to the children pools. So if you are looking to relax in some hot water, the resort pools are not going to be it. So I decided to book a massage for my sister and myself during a trip to the Waikōloa area. I was debating between a few of the resort spas and settled on Kohala for the more reasonable rates. My expectations after reading a few reviews were fairly low, and I can see what the other reviewers were talking about. First of all, entering the lobby of the hotel, there isn't much info on how to get to the spa, we arrived early enough that we were able to walk around and find it-just be aware that it is in the lagoon tower and if you don't want to take the maze that we did, you will either hop on the monorail or take a boat over. Once we made it down to the spa, we were greeted by a friendly face to check us in. Our appointments were the last ones of the day, but I didn't expect there to literally be nobody else in the place. Locker rooms are in total disrepair, with cracked mirrors and rust everywhere. The showers were okay, except that you have no info on what handle does what-so you guess and hope it's right. Luckily I love scorching hot showers because I couldn't figure out how to adjust it to save my life lol. We were given lockers with decent robes and jelly slippers that probably were clear at some point, but now dingy yellowish. They have a few hair dryers and curling irons, along with a few toiletries. You get one washcloth and one thin bath towel to use. Waiting area was okay, I'm assuming there used to be more options based on some cabinets and serving areas, but the only offering was water. There are none of the typical spa amenities that you would expect like steam showers/dry or wet saunas/salt room. We were greeted by our therapists in the waiting area, both were super friendly. I can't remember their names, but both of us had fantastic massages!! The rooms themselves are also dilapidated, massage beds are nothing special. I took the CBD oil and a moisturizing face mask, I wouldn't do the face mask again, I think it was something you could find at the Target beauty aisle, but the CBD oil was nice. Again, my therapist was excellent, and it honestly made me not regret booking there. Once we were done with treatment, we both showered and at the same time there was a gal closing shop. She was cleaning up after us and I felt rushed to leave. She clearly didn't want to be there another minute longer, so we rushed out. I wanted to take a look at some of the oils and merchandise for sale, however everything was already shut down and locked up. Too bad, I am typically a sucker for tossing money down the drain on these spa products. Overall, I did choose this spa because it was reasonable, but definitely didn't live up to the expectation of a resort spa, especially a Hilton branded resort. I've been to several Marriott resort spas, the Fairmont spa in Maui, and several Kohler spas in the past, and the pricing isn't much different, but those others have tons of amenities and excellent facilities. I wouldn't come back to Kohala Spa unless I knew 100% I could get my same massage therapist. read more

Free cardio and workout room for guest is a WIN. I remember the last time I went it was 25 dollars for ONE day of workouts. I guess times are hard and that is a great ammenity to offer the guest without losing too much. I just have to say that the SMITH MACHINE ROCKS! I never got to really use to too much but on this trip to the Waikoloa I used it 3 days in a row. Talk about a great vacation. And yes, I am a workout addict, I can't stand missing a day, it makes me all KITCHIGAI when I don't workout and I basically I turn into the incredible HULK when I don't workout. There are also about 12 cardio machines in another room. They also offer chilled water, towels, sanitizing wipes and tv to watch your most unfavorite channel while working out. No view from the room which makes it a little mundane but overall a GREAT experience! There are also lat machines, leg machines, chest press, back machine, dumbell rack, benches, yoga balls, and a ab crunch machine. This is probably the worst spa experience that I have ever had! We are seasoned spa travelers and have experienced some of the best spas in Palm Springs, Scottsdale, and Orange County. Pay attention to the other reviewers with the 2 to 1 star reviews. The Kohala Spa is not how a spa should be. The male masseurs for our deep tissue massages were not good at all. My masseuse was did not contribute to the relaxed atmosphere that the spa should be. He spoke loudly and not very clearly either. This is a spa! Speak clearly and softly! The facilities are pretty terrible. The shower handles were falling off. Impossible to manage temperature. The steam room did not get hot enough or steamy enough. The steam is also unscented unlike many spas which have moved to eucalyptus infused steam rooms. There is nothing but water to drink. No teas. No snacks. We were not assigned a locker, we had to wonder around the locker room to find an unlocked one. No relaxing music to set the mood. No razors for men. Combs were not sitting in the antiseptic bath. Lastly the "relaxation room" where you are suppose to wait before your treatment was anything but relaxed. You can hear the loud masseuse talking loudly while prepping the treatment rooms next door. He was even whistling! It is at the entrance of the locker room where everyone comes and you have to hear the attendant give the orientation to everyone. WTF!!!! I am trying to relax. I keep hearing the "spiel". Go somewhere else for your spa experience! I wasted $$$$ at this place! Run! read more

The spa was just ok which was really disappointing since I come from Miami where the spas are AMAZING so I had high expectations for Kohala. The actual service I received were great ( Naupaka Ritual) it was relaxing and the aroma was lovely however the amenities are sub par. For the type of resort the spa is in it definitely needs better amenities. Everything looked old or out of order which is a big turn off when you go to a spa. The steam room didn't really produce enough steam and didn't have the amazing scent of eucalyptus that I'm used to. The staff was really nice and accommodating but the facilities needs some major remodeling. For the amount of money you pay it's underwhelming. read more

We came over from Marriott expecting a more luxurious facility but were disappointed to hear that most of the spa facilities have been closed without any plans to re-open (not mentioned on the website). The lava rock pools that are pictured across the stairway as you come down to the spa- closed. The fun steam rooms- closed. We received a locker, a single bath towel, a robe and a self-served glass of water. They didn't even have massage bed warmers, or heated towels in the treatment rooms. Honestly, I get more just going to Massage Envy. We were advised we could use the hotel pools if we purchased a resort pass. My therapist Jason was amazing! I had an 80 minute Lomj Lomi massage and it was very relaxing and amazing. I wasn't a guest of the hotel but I saw the whirlpools and sauna was on the other side of the bathroom and you needed a key to access it. I wasn't given any instruction on how to access it so I didn't. After I had my service I looked at prices at other massages places in the area and I saw I got ripped off by this place for sure. I am writing about a feature of the spa that is under the radar. The spa offers free yoga and tai chi classes to guests of Hilton Waikoloa. And they are, like, the best kept secret. I took the tai chi class from Gwen and it was great. She gave me personal attention on my main interest, and taught me proper breathing and stretches' that opened my chest ( I was hunching over) and improved my posture . her style was very gentle and I was not made to feel I was doing something wrong. So disappointed! I should of read the reviews before I spent money on this place. First, the front desk staff is rude. Extremely rude. Second, as I was getting ready a massage therapist came in and was leaning over the sinks complaining about her back. And unfortunately I must of drawn the unlucky card that day because when it was my time to be taken back for my massage,the massage therapist who was complaining about her back ended up being my therapist. I'm a massage therapist myself and it was the WORST massage I've ever had. I wouldn't even call it a massage. She basically just rubbed oil all over my body. I have traveled all over the world and have massages several times a year in my home state of Arizona although, this was by far the best massage I ever had! It was the Lomi Lomi Hawaiin Massage. She used her hands, forearms, elbows and I don't like deep tissue massages but I like a firm massages and she exceeded my expectations. The 80 minutes was perfect and I felt as if I was having an out of body experience as she handled every inch of far from petite frame. at the end of my massage I asked her "do you love what you do "and she said yes for 15 years. I told her that it showed and I've never had a better massage! I hope my tip let her know how much I enjoyed it. If you ever get a chance to go to the spa at this resort please request Anela! My husband and I did the indoor couples massage for our anniversary. It was my first time getting a massage and I was quite nervous- especially living in a larger body. The attendant brought me a bigger robe without my embarrassment of having to ask or wearing the one that did not cover enough.
