Omg This is probably the best doctor experience I've ever had. I was in search of a black dermatologist. That's something that's very important and actually matter for us melanated people. Let me start off with the parking lot! It's small, but not annoyingly tiny. Just enough for the building and it's located behind the building! It's located a blink after Arby's! Upon entering, the office is located toward the end of the hall. Now... I had an issue and went to Beaumont Urgent Care and well... I was misdiagnosed there (which I kinda knew) and needed to see a dermatologist. It's very calming seeing people who look like you and understand you from the time you walk in until the time you walk out. The receptionist was efficient, the nurse :-) Ms Gretchen I believe her name was made my heart smile and I'm sure she didn't even know it. I visited Dr. O'Neal W. Koger Jr after being referred, due to concerns about darkening skin around my eyelids. I was genuinely worried and hoped to get some answers or at least a thoughtful evaluation. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. At the appointment, my concerns were brushed off without any real examination or discussion. I left with no diagnosis, no treatment plan, and honestly, feeling dismissed. The energy during the visit was very monotone and disengaged -- it felt like I was more of an obligation than a patient. As time passed, my condition worsened. I eventually sought a second opinion with a different dermatologist, who took the time to do a thorough examination. It was then I learned I was dealing with seborrheic dermatitis on my scalp, which had caused post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation around my eyelids. Finally, I had an explanation -- and a treatment plan. If Dr. O'Neal W. Koger Jr had taken my concerns seriously from the start, I could have avoided months of unnecessary stress and progression of the condition. I initially trusted his explanation that the issue was hereditary or age-related, but deep down I knew something wasn't right. I'd recommend Dr Koger and his practice however there are some things that need improving. Communication being at the forefront. It is incredibly difficult to get a hold of somebody who is qualified to address my concerns. Front desk is kinda rude and I'd be fine with that if my questions and concerns were at least being addressed. I've been told 2 times now that I'll get a call when the nurse or dr are free and have yet to hear anything. read more

I had the worst experience ever with a physician. The Dr Koger barely walked in the room. He kept his hand on the door handle. When I was describing my problem on the back of my neck, he wouldn't even come and exam me. Just wrote a Rx. It didn't solve the problem and I just went to another doctor. Never again. read more

My experience with Dr. Koger and Nurse Esthetician Gretchen are the best. I went to get laser but Dr. Koger made sure I tried other avenues before jumping to laser. However, they did not work and now I'm getting laser. Gretchen makes sure I'm comfortable and talks to me the entire time while "zapping me" as I call it lol. Best part is they're both black and understands that our skin is different and needs to be handled differently. I highly recommend them. Dr Koger is amazing . His staff is very welcoming and accommodating . I've gone to see him twice about keloid removal . And he removed them successfully and gave me steroid shots to keep them from returning . He is very personable and actually remembers everything, from your medical issues / skin concerns and even small talk about my personal life. Him and his staff made me feel welcome , safe and the office didn't have a judgemental atmosphere like other clinics do. I would definitely recommend going to him for your skin needs / concerns. I will NEVER go back to this place as again. Apparently, you can't reschedule an appointment that is two-three weeks out. "It messes with the Doctor's schedules and you've rescheduled before". I've been going to Dr. Koger whenever I had a skin issue for many years. His office staff are friendly and my appointments are always quick. There are plenty of available appointment times to fit into a busy schedule. Dr. Koger is knowledgeable and easy to talk to about my various skin problems. I had been going to Dr. Koger for years. I had him look at a spot on my head, and he gave me cream for it. I go back and told him the cream wasn't working, it was growing bigger. He said give it more time. I went to another dermatologist who told me it was a basil cell carcinoma and sent me to have it removed. When I saw Dr. Koger it was the size of a dime. When I sent to have it removed it was bigger then 1/2 dollar. I had also had a spot on my finger he told me it was skin cancer. When I went back he told me it just needed to be lanced. As a Dr. I wouldn't go to him. As a person, he has me worried that something is going on with him. read more
