It was exactly where I expected it to be... on the backside of a sushi restaurant at 1406 Carson Street. It was easy to find and parking was free! I took a few photos and was done in a few minutes! Headed over there on the way to take a test trial to see the Port of Los Angeles for a future cruise. The bridge was very nice and similar to the Gold Gate in San Francisco. There was moderate traffic for a Saturday and some mild construction. Definitely nice place to drive over, looking forward to future trips to that area.

It offers public workshops, private events, and custom art services, aiming to positively transform individuals and communities through art. The studio is known for its open-studio format, allowing artists to work on various projects like denim jackets, skate decks, and canvases with professional materials. The website indicates that they are only open on the weekends from 10am - 7pm but I came on a Wednesday morning and the lot was open. Opened since 1909, my friend lives near here and I made it a point to come, they have fun games and…read moresnacks for the kids. If you've cruised down route 66 to the end you'll know this spot since it's the official end of Route 66 and there is a sign on the boardwalk commemorating the stop along with a small gift shop that sells rout 66 related souvenirs. Some notes from our visit here: -It's a pretty far walk all the way to the end of the pier from the street and there are surprisingly not too many people at the end. It was once a great fishing spot. -The churros ladies are here and we are glad we caught them since we missed them at Venice. It's $5 for a bag of churros and you can add chocolate or cream sauce to your churros. -Pacific Park is here, there are multiple ticket booths so you can buy it at the back entrance near the bathrooms to avoid long lines. West Coaster is an easy ride that is not scary and loops twice. It's probably the rollercoaster with the most fantastic beach views in the world.

Los Angeles as a whole has so much to see and analyze, and this intersection is yet another thing to pick apart. As a kid, I would be sitting in the car while my parents drove across the intersection of Pico and Sepulveda many times. I didn't think anything of it. The only thing that came to mind was that Anawalt's Lumber was on this corner, and I'm glad to report that it still is, and that a Norm's coffee shop, the one at which I've eaten the most, was a few blocks east of here. Sadly, that Norm's has closed. Upon learning of the comical song featured by radio personality Doctor Demento, going anywhere near this intersection then brought on uproarious laughter. Whoever penned this song was almost a genius in that they made a silk purse out of a sow's ear. This intersection has recently gotten a lot of life injected into it. While Anawalt's Lumber is still there and the other two corners have small strip malls, the southwest corner now has a newer office building. Growing up, one almost forgets that Exposition Boulevard runs almost parallel to Pico and, at Pico and Sepulveda, it's but a short block south. This proved to be important because that dormant railroad track in the middle of once sleepy Exposition, with its small stucco ranch homes, is now the path that the Metro Expo line travels on from Downtown L.A. to Santa Monica. It goes over Sepulveda using a flyover, the station is elevated and provides good views of the West Side, and there is yet another massive cookie cutter "transit oriented development" type apartment complex next to it. Similar to the ones near the reborn parts of Culver City on this same line, one can only wonder who lives in these complexes and what they do. I don't want to think that most of the residents have a geeky high paying tech job and have an Uber Eats person bring them their food. Also, being just one block south of Pico and Sepulveda, the Metro station has turned this area into a hub. There is now a large Metro parking garage nearby. Metro (L.A.) buses and those belonging to other systems, such as Culver City, now ply Sepulveda and end up at the base of the UCLA campus. On the Culver City system, which has a stop at this quirky corner, one can travel all the way to and from LAX for $1. Even though the song was just good fun when released, the area around Pico and Sepulveda mostly continued to be taken for granted. It just sort of sat there between Westwood, Century City, and Santa Monica. While tidy, the housing stock consisted of ordinary stucco ranch homes like the ones seen all over the West Side and dingbat and Jetsonian apartment complexes built from the post-war era through the seventies. However, this more "vanilla" area around this intersection has gone from being taken for granted to being coveted. A large percentage of the houses have been extensively updated, with some featuring a "pop top," and, if not extensively updated, they look freshened up. The prices of any nearby homes are astronomical and the prices of rentals are also very high. This intersection is too close to many key areas to have been ignored much longer ... and I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner. After all, Sepulveda is probably Los Angeles's most important north-south thoroughfare, paralleling the San Diego Freeway from the "way cool" South Bay all the way to the top end of the San Fernando Valley where the city ends. The song "Pico and Sepulveda" manages to be irritating, yet, because it's so goofy and absurd, it easily earns people's forgiveness. Its refrain will undoubtedly be stuck in your head for quite a while. I can only think of one other song that does the same via its refrain ("la da dee - la da da"), and that would be Crystal Waters's 1991 dance hit "Gypsy Woman," but that one had and has fleeting landmark status. The intersection of Pico and Sepulveda easily gets 4 stars for being close to key areas of Los Angeles, for being in a fairly nice area with interesting stores and options, for being close enough to enjoy the breezes of the Pacific, and for making people laugh, or, at the very least, chuckle.

Its near the connection for the the Expo E (Gold) line at Expo & Sepulveda with connection to the Culver CityBus, LA Metro Transit Busses and LADOT. On foot you'll have pretty wide open sidewalk space, access to scooter rentals (such as Lime), spot some delivery robots and be near two strip malls/plazas (donuts/coffee, breakfast burritos, haircuts, cell phone stores, etcs - more active in the day time) as well as newer apartment, built up office spaces and a Anawalt Lumber Company location. Sepulveda Blvd & Pico Blvd is at its most active during the rush hour stretch or at least from 4PM to 630PM - a most LA-ers know Sepulveda runs along the 405 and is an alternative to hoping on it. Sepulveda & Pico has being renovated and revamped over the last few years and really come up - pass through to enjoy some scenic city views. Q Tips: Near Best Buy, Michael's (arts & crafts) and Marshalls (off Sawtelle Blvd). Wine House + Smart & Final (Cotner Avenue/Pico). Lots of local food & sip spots (El Super Taco, Big Tommys, Sorry Not Sorry bar and more). Plus some essentials like USPS, Best Western Inn (for traveling or staycation).

Celebrating Ice Skater Alysa Liu's Olympic Gold Medals is what this mural is all about! She is the first American woman to win an individual Gold medal in Olympic figure skating since 2002, when Sarah Hughes won. Alysa also helped the women's team secure a Gold Medal. This achievement earned her a spot in history as the first time a women's singles skater won two golds in one Olympic Games. This mural highlights Alysa testing the gold medal along with showing her skating during the individual Gold Medal performance. What is the relevance of featuring her here in LA when she grew up in the Bay Area (San Francisco)? She's a student at UCLA, which isn't very far from Gardena. For a lot people in the world - from professionals to casual viewers of the sport - the talented young woman captivated our hearts being unapologetically herself and winning the first gold medal for the US in 24 years in women's individual figure skating. For me personally, it was such a point of pride that she really repped the Asian community and Oakland. I didn't grow up in Oakland myself, per se, but I grew up in the East Bay about 20 minutes east of Oakland. She's also the second Asian woman to win gold from East Bay. The other one being Kristi Yamaguchi Who has a temp skating rink in my hometown each year during the holidays. Since I have a lot of family in the South Bay, I knew at some point I was going to visit this mural and admire it. I wanted to do it before it started getting drawn over by disrespectful taggers. Anyway, just a great place to visit to check out this mirror really quick. I had a coffee in hand while doing it and there are a lot of great eateries nearby. Also, as with most public works of art, this is free!
