GREAT NEWS CREW! I love watching news without people sitting around talking about themselves. The weather is awesome too.

FOX TV New Mexico - The cast from the shows on Fox are really polite and outgoing! We met this one at Whole Foods. Supporting our New Mexico shows.

That's what makes this place special: the New Mexican vibe. I can't put it in words, exactly. But the essence of what I love about our desert community is the stuff of this station, and a visit (ask for a tour of the studio) will remind you that while corporate conglomerates may hold the purse strings for content, KASA reflects the soul of what's happening. From food trucks to festivals to personalities and cool new businesses, KASA nails local. And that's the resource we want, right? The next time you're in the neighborhood (I'm often on my bike with the kiddo, headed toward the zoo), hit the buzzer and ask them to show you around. If they have a moment, most likely they will. Friendly employees abound, and you'll get a taste of the daily broadcast environment. It's an old building, but surprisingly contemporary, and all of those people you see on TV? They're down-to-earth. So say hello, and give 'em a high five. They're broadcasting the local to the world at large.

Across the street at 912 is their main production studio and on Central is another office. I went to all three offices today as a part of an orientation to become a uPUBLICAN which is what they call their members. They also have another location which is their prop warehouse, supposedly the most props of anywhere in the state. It is also being set up to produce a reality TV show. All of the locations had great people, facilities, and some great equipment. While at the Central Avenue location I added the spot to Yelp so hopefully that location will show up soon. uPUBLIC produces the content for ABQ cable channels 26 and 27. 26 is going to become exclusive sports and the other non-sports content on 26 will be migrated to channel 27. uPUBLIC is going through a metamorphisis and the orientation today for both old and new members was an introduction to how the intend to do things from here on out. A tour of the facilities was given as well as a talk by all the various department heads. After this we will begin taking classes on a variety of topics and hands on learning the use of the sound and video equipment. We are being prepared to produce our own show content, or if we wish, to assist, shoot video, edit, etc.

The stars are there, on the ground as you enter the building, and within you'll find a busy hive of peeps who are working to change the vibe of the 505. Come as you are. The coffee is already brewed. From what I understand, uPublic supports a wealth of cinema and local telecasts, The Morning Brew being the biggie, with local personality Larry Ahrens at the helm (and his contemporary, Erin Muffoletto, rocking the locally-known). The studio itself is pretty simplistic: one side typically features a tall table, the other a couch where Larry (grand as a skyscraper) looms over the guests and somehow makes them feel at home. There you are, sandwiched between two really great personalities that really have chemistry. And let's not forget Susan, Larry's wife, who watches each segment with abandon. My God Mother. Thank you Larry and Erin, for promoting the best of New Mexico. See you soon!
