There is excellent signage on Farmington Avenue that leads you to a big lot behind the market. We saw a smallish number of eclectic vendors - a Jamaican food stand, a bakery, a few produce stands, a jewelry stand, an artwork stand, a Hartford Library on Wheels truck, and more. We made two purchases - a Nutella babka from Manchester's Wicked Good Bakes and a Jerk Barbecue Mushroom Patty Panada from Hartford's The Ital Juicery Company. I had an absolute blast at the Ital Juicery stand. They had three generations of charming and delightful women behind the counter. That Patty Panda (sort of a cross between an Empanada and a Jamaican Patty) was a good-sized portion, somewhat justifying the hefty $10 price tag, but the flavor was amazing. Smoky, savory, and spicy, I mean sneaky spicy. Not sure what kind of peppers were in there, but if you told me they were Jamaican Scotch Bonnets I would not be surprised. That afterburn lasted over half an hour. I'll definitely be on the lookout for The Ital Juicery Company when I make the rounds of upcoming Farmer's Markets. As for the West End Farmer's Market, they're open on Tuesdays between June and September from 4pm-7pm. The hours change slightly to 3pm-6pm in October. From the freshest fruit of the season all the way to the Maple Syrup, Sour Dough. Micheal and his abundant happy herbs, jewelry and soap. The comfrey plants were such a joy to my eyes. There are so many great vendors and it's awesome that there's the staples there each week + rotating vendors. It's great that some stands will give you samples. There is such a great variety to choose from and the local vendors are all sooo incredibly nice. My favorites are the chip family and the couple who sells pound cake cupcakes. Their personalities and products shine! Some of my other favorite vendors: -Charlene Li's pottery: her work is gorgeous. We own one of her spoon rests and olive oil dispensers, in addition to gifting some too. -I can't remember the farm name but it's along the left hand side when you walk into the field. They are always set up there with 2-3 long tables of their produce. -Cosmic donuts: who doesn't love a hot, fresh apple cider donut? I also like their coffee. It's simple, it's cheap, it's delicious! -Verdilune jewelry: beautiful, unique jewelry. I have a few pieces of my own, my friends have bought from there, and I've gifted a few as well. Be prepared with cash since some vendors don't have card readers and for the ones who do the WiFi can be very laggy and cause issues. If you end up liking the market I highly recommend becoming a "friend of the market" where you pay to get a special market bag and that gets you discounts at every vendor for the entire season!

On multiple occasions, I've ended up with expired products or products with black fungus/mold. This makes me question how carefully inventory is being rotated and checked. What disappoints me even more is the response when I call to let the store know. Mistakes happen, and I understand that. But I would expect some concern and an effort to check the remaining inventory so other customers don't have the same experience. Oh no, that would have been too ordinary. Instead, they kicked off the market with a baguette slicing ceremony! They are brand new and are opened from June 19 to October 23, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. You'll find them in the Town Hall parking lot. Vendors listed on the website include a Wellness booth, farm and bakery stands, Italian Ice, seafood, mushrooms, sustainable animal products, Vodka sauce (fantastic), cheese, salsa, coffee, I'm not sure I saw all of them there in the heat yesterday, so maybe there will be more as we move away from summer into the fall. We picked up two ears of corn from Halls Farm in Simsbury and had them last night with dinner, and yes, they were very good. Parking is free and super easy in the massive town hall parking lot.
