We absolutely love Knockout Studio in Sunnyvale! We use the studio for our MKC Bollywood dance classes, and it has been such a wonderful experience from the very beginning. The studio is very spacious, clean, and well maintained, with plenty of room for our students to dance comfortably without feeling crowded. The large mirrors are perfect for dance classes and make it easy for students to follow the choreography and improve their movements. The music system works very well and provides clear, strong sound throughout the studio, which is so important for our Bollywood classes. The air conditioning also keeps the space comfortable, especially during high-energy dance sessions. The overall setup is bright, welcoming, and professional, and our instructors and students always enjoy being here. Ngoc is incredibly kind, helpful, responsive, and easy to work with. While they were beginner friendly classes, they were also quite challenging but Ngoc knows how to gauge the class and slow it down when we are struggling to keep up. She also teaches bachata!! My favorite bachata dance classes in the Bay Area. Last summer, I started getting into bachata and for several months I went to classes all over the Bay Area 3-4 times a week. Berkeley, Oakland, SF, San Jose, Richmond, San Mateo... if there was bachata that day, I was there. Needless to say, I got a pretty good sampling of the various teachers, styles, and venues. Out of the over the 10 or so instructors I tried, Ngoc was my favorite. Ngoc focused on not just teaching patterns, but actual technique. The pace of the classes was good for a wide range of skill levels. And importantly... she makes the classes fun. She is enthusiast, energetic, and ridiculously funny. I seriously laugh out loud at least once per class due to a funny expression, random scream, or an interesting dance lesson analogy. Something I'm sure a lot of people appreciate is that Ngoc also focuses on making dancing inclusive. She can teach both leads and follows and makes sure everyone feels comfortable doing whatever role they want to practice or learn. Ngoc also reminds dancers to respect the boundaries and limits of others when dancing, whether these boundaries exist for physical or for consent/comfort reasons. As my schedule got busy, the frequency of my bachata class attendance has decreased, but the one I've stuck with is Mondays at Studio M with Ngoc. I also try to make it as often as possible to the bi-weekly Hello Bachata in SF (again, Ngoc). The Knockout dance community is very friendly, encouraging, and welcoming. They put on great performances and make practices fun, and social dancing a blast. If you're looking to get into bachata, I can't recommend Knockout and Ngoc enough. read more

Scene: "Knockout Dance Recruitment Day for Spring 2023 season" I remember walking into the studio with a mindset of "I'm not going to perform but I'll join and practice with the team so I can gain the skills I need to eventually perform". I wasn't very confident in my bachata dance enough and didn't think I was ready. Towards the tail end of the auditions when the student performers were going to do the routine in front of everyone, Ngoc comes to me and goes "are you going to perform?" And I couldn't help but say "yes" and I jumped up there. I didn't say "yes" because all of a sudden I gained a magical powers and my bachata dancing was ten times better. I said "yes" because that entire morning I was surrounded by supportive people who I would consider as my teammates made me feel like I could do anything. Since then, I've been hooked. I haven't left and the main reason I haven't left is because of Ngoc and the type of culture Knockout is trying to grow in the dance community. Hands down the best urban/sensual bachata training in the Bay Area, I know people travel from the East Bay or Santa Cruz, sometimes SF to train here. Ngoc is such an amazing person, trainer, and a dance professional. Her style is controlled and condensed, she switches so helps with both lead and follow. You can feel how much effort she puts into her work, how much passion she has for dancing AND for teaching. It shows, really. I've gone to quite a few different classes in the Bay Area, and even take intensives/weekenders from the creators of sensual bachata. I'm very lucky and so glad that I have the opportunity to go to her classes as my home/regular local class as the majority of improvements are from your local studio. She taught us the mind set, the technique, how to be respectful, inclusive, and have fun. The energy with the team is something that you have to experience yourself.
