PA Whitney and MA Asees were outstanding and friendly when I had my procedure and they took really good care of me.

The staff are very nice and I was taken care of professionally and courteously. Charles was thorough in his exam and did a great job!

I can't think of a better experience related to health care. The folks are caring, attentive, and kind.

I had a biopsy taken in the Lawrence office that was sent to their own KC lab for my 2nd basal cell carcinoma (the first was 4 years ago under Dr. Bittenbender's tenure). The nurse said it could take up to 10 days for them to call me with the results and to call if I hadn't heard from them after 14 days. On day 17 it's my 3rd day in a row of having the receptionist leave a message for a nurse to call me back. Today she said they were "short staffed" due to nurses helping in other clinics and it's been a bit of "phone tag". I have cancer on my face - I don't care how short staffed you are. You take care of your patients. This is unacceptable. I will be finding a different dermatologist after this, even if I have to drive to Johnson County. The 30 minute drive is worth not having to put up with a mediocre (at best) provider. When it comes to my skin and my hard-earned money, I need an awesome provider. Besides, most of the providers in this office are PA's, not MD's. No offense to PA's, but when I have a skin cancer lesion I'd prefer to speak to an MD. read more

I was also referred here by my PCP, so I made an appt. When I got to that dermatologist office, they said they didn't have record of me in their system. *Even though I had called and confirmed the appt and even verified the location!!!* I had already waited over two months to get in by that point. The staff was rude and tried to blame other people. Then they asked if I wanted to make an appt, but said it would be another month before I could be seen! So, I walked next door to Free State Dermatology with Dr. Buxton and they said they could get me in as early as next week! And might I just add Free State Dermatology was amazing! Long story short, the staff was friendly and helpful. And Dr. Buxton was kind, took the time to listen to me and explained everything to me where I could understand it, I never felt rushed, and his prescription and regime was spot on! I do NOT recommend KMC Dermatology at all!! Don't waste your time or money! read more

Referred to them by my primary care physician. The doctor was "in and out" quickly and took a couple of things for biopsy. I received a voice mail at 4:55 on a Monday so was unable to call them back since they close at 5:00. I called the next day twice and was assured someone would call me with my results. No call on Tuesday. No call on Wednesday. No call on Thursday. So, I called on Friday and was finally able to talk to someone who could let me know the results. I mentioned that I was expecting a call back during the week. No acknowledgement. I understand that they are busy - we are all busy! However, I believe most offices build in time in the daily schedule to ensure that patients are contacted in a timely manner. read more

I had an abscess that my primary care physician wouldn't treat, because they said I should see a dermatologist as I have hidradenitis suppurativa. This was my first real outbreak, and all I'm looking for is treatment--reduce the swelling, decrease the pain--but I guess that's a lot to ask for these days. It took me a while to get in, so in the meantime my symptoms get worse and it feels like I have shards of glass lodged in my armpit. I'm not sleeping, because I am in pain and can't shift in bed without feeling like my skin is being torn off, which I tell Kyle Anderson, the doctor I finally see. He's indifferent, he doesn't even offer to give me an antibiotics or steroid shot in the abscess to reduce some of the inflammation and pain. He sees me for all of 7 minutes. He says he'll give me some prescriptions, that will take two weeks to give me any relief. And when I ask him for something to reduce the inflammation (I tell him, look, just give me a prescription, I'll administer it myself, I just want to be free of some pain). He tells me to go back to my primary care doctor. Why be a doctor if you just don't give a shit? read more

Worst office service/staff EVER among other things. Scheduled myself here for mole checks and removal. Charged ridiculous amount for check and removed moles that didn't need removal. Wanted me to come back for further removal of another mole they said was cancerous. When I checked in (which always seemed to be confusing for the staff) I sat down. After almost an hour, I heard someone behind the desk ask the receptionist if I was a no show to which they replied, THEY DIDN'T KNOW. I popped up and said, "I'm sitting right here!" They act surprised and apologized like NBD. I asked them how much longer it would be and they said another 20 min! I said forget it and told them to cancel me and left. It hadn't been the first time, and was going to be the last we had waited that long after our apt time. Enough was enough! When I took the mole results to another dermatologist they said it was fine and didn't need more removal. Nice. Also sent my son here for acne and ended up seeing Bittenbender whom I didn't even know was part of the practice or wouldn't have gone. Office was not helpful at all on getting him set up on Accutane (have to register and such), and he was very condescending in his responses to our questions. Waited a long time for appointments for him as well. One of which we showed up at the time we thought we were scheduled and were told in a reminder call, then had them say when we arrived and had waited for 30 min, that our apt was actually at a later time. ??? Um, okay. Wasted SO much of our valuable time waiting in that office. Needless to say we changed to another Dr. close by and have been very happy, having none of the problems we had with this office. Recommended by my primary care doctor. Will never go again. Front desk staff competent but rude. Left a giant scar on my eyebrow and didn't even remove entire mole. So now I have a gouge on my face with a mole inside it. Billed insurance 700 dollars for full body check and removal of one tiny mole. My out of pocket to have a scar on my face and the comfort that I don't have skin cancer was 150 dollars. read more

I had a terrible experience seeing Dr. Anderson at KMC Dermatology in Lawrence, KS. I am new to the Lawrence area and was referred to KMC by a family friend. Safe to say I have never felt more like a number in my entire life. From the moment I walked into their packed waiting room, the front receptionist rushed me through payment process and necessary paperwork to then have me sit and wait for 20+ minutes with the others. Once I was able to get into an examination room, I then proceeded to wait an additional 15 minutes for Dr. Anderson. From the time he entered my room to the time he walked out, he had spent a total of six (6) minutes with me (yes, I timed him). He did not get closer then a conversational distance from me for "examination", he did not ask me any questions about myself (everything he knew about me was from the completed paperwork), and he didn't even seem to really take an interest in my case. He had already told me the medication he wanted to put me on before even taking the time to understand my situation, fully explain the long term treatment, and answer any questions I had. I understand he may see plenty of patients with similar cases as mine, but I highly recommend that his staff and Dr. Anderson himself fix their "bedside manner" and give patients the adequate time they pay for. read more

I downloaded yelp to leave this review. I went to KMC dermatology for the first time two days ago and this rating was earned within the first five minutes of my arrival. I approached the front desk, as instructed by an above head sign that stated new customers were to check in at the front desk. The receptionist had just finished helping another customer before me. I approached the desk and was ignored (no exaggeration) for two minutes. No hello, no acknowledgement of my prescience, nothing.... after several minutes of silence, the lady behind the desk asked "can i help you" without even looking up at me. I informed her i was here for my ten o clock appointment. She requested my ID and insurance card, which i had taken a picture of on my phone (front and back). This receptionist was absolutely PISSED to have to look at my phone. I have never felt that level of aggression from a customer service person. I felt as if i was being attacked and that my business was an absolute hassle for this lady. If i wasn't so anxious and desperate to find a cure for my acne, i would've turned around and walked out. The actual doctor i saw was adequate. Not overly friendly but it was a relief compared to my experience at the front desk. I absolutely would not recommend anyone to this place ever. Let me just say I have been with this office while being a student at KU for over 3 years. I have been on two courses of accutane, and regularly I would see my Shawnee office which I ADORE but sadly, they are just too far and since Lawrence had a KMC office I thought, why not? So I am currently on course two of my medicine, and this office has made it living hell to deal with since starting. They don't send lab orders out in a timely manner, in fact, I have had my lab people call in for a fax with me sitting in the waiting room while it took 30 minutes for KMC Lawrence to fax it over when KMC told me it was a standing order over the phone when in fact, it wasn't. Recently I was charged $135 since the receptionist who never knows what the hell is going on made me pay it saying that my insurance wasn't active then. After calling BCBS, then my insurance calling them, I now have $135 credit toward KMC when I only have two appointments left with my medicine. I'm placing bets when I go in this month my file won't show it because they never put notes in. One receptionist is rude, abrasive, and seems like she doesn't want to be there while downing an extra large soda and eating jelly beans while the other, I KID YOU NOT, every time I go in she does not know how to enter something on the computer, no wonder there are never any notes because she's under qualified and constantly asking questions. Sorry for this long post, but I'm so sick of this office and if it weren't for them being right down the road, I would make the 40 minute trip to KMC Shawnee. All in all if you can find a different dermatologist, I suggest do so because these people DO NOT care about you, your needs, and are never on time. read more

This is the last time that my husband will be going to this office. The office staff is rude, they don't finish the checking in or out before they start dealing with an impatient person who has just walked in the door. It has happened multiple times before, and it happened again this morning, with a person riding a bike, came in soaking wet, and butted in ahead of my husband's checking out. The office person stopped checking out my husband, and dealt with the impatient, wet person. Andy Dean (who the KMC staff call Dr., but is a PA) looked at a spot on his ear over a year ago. Burned it off, that didn't work, prescribed an ointment, that didn't work. After I called the office in February to inform that the spot on the ear was oozing down my husband's shirt collar, the response from the office person, was: "Well, he doesn't have an appointment until March for a check." I responded, "Yes, I know that. I'm telling you that he needs to be seen. The spot is oozing." She finally agreed to schedule an appointment. More run around. Keep checking it. In May, he finally decides that maybe he needs to do a biopsy. It should have been done in 2017. Results are that it is cancer. An appointment is scheduled to take off the spot in Topeka, BUT, they cannot see him until mid-July. From May to July, the thing just keeps growing, oozing. The surgery in July took half a day to do. I understand why, as they don't want to take more than is needed, but they need to get it all. The Topeka office was actually much more pleasant and efficient than this Lawrence office. BUT, the bill for taking off a spot on the ear was horrendous - over $6,000. This morning, Andy Dean burns two spots off my husband's face and says, "I don't need to see you for a year." Really? You burn two questionable spots off his face, and you don't think you should check them before a year? This is not the only time that we have been purely disgusted with the treatment plan, or the office staff's behavior. I would advise you to find another dermatologist, likely not in Lawrence. I wish I could give 0 stars. read more

Finally gave up and found another dermatologist. Really a badly run practice. Consultations are quick and superficial. Takes three/four days with multiple requests to get a prescription refilled. Front office staff have a don't care attitude. read more
