Anyway, it is just basically another shopping centre, though I have to admit that adding a cinema is certainly a nice touch, even though they haven't actually added an outdoor area yet, which is a bit of a shame, though I suspect that this will be coming sooner or later. Like a lot of these large shopping centres, they pretty much have all of the stock standard stores here, whether they be big or small, and of course there is also the food court, which not surprisingly is right next to the cinema. I guess the thing that I don't like about the place is that it really isn't all that accessible by public transport (or at least decent public transport.

Their Home Wares selection is filled with mugs, cutlery, microwaves, grills, appliances and so much more. They also have a wide variety of pillows, linen and bed quilts. If you're looking for anything you need around the house, then this is the store to come to. It's always well stocked and there's always a big sale going on. What I haven't figured out is why Harris Scarfe hasn't upped the anti and started selling DVDs? I don't even think I've seen CDs there either? They're up against big department stores such as Kmart, Big W and Target so it seems only natural.

Probably the biggest store in the West Lakes Shopping Mall. There's two floors (which isn't a lot compared to the one in town) but the store is still well stocked. This particular David Jones store has an awesome gourmet and confectionery selection along with a huge range of shoes, home entertainment, furniture and stationery, books, CDs and DVDs. I personally wouldn't buy music CDs of DVDs at David Jones because they prices are sky high, but I must admit on the few occasions when I've wanted something in particular and couldn't find it anywhere else it's likely that David Jones would have it in stock. Especially rare Disney DVDs for you all collectors out there. There's so many perfumes as per any David Jones. What I love about this store is that the staff don't spray your face with perfume. They wait for you to browse a little while before asking if you need assistance and if they ask you to try something they don't overdo it by spraying you in the eyes. The store is lacking in ladies fashion. There is a wider variety for older women, but for the younger ladies aged between 15-30 (depending on how fashionable you are) there's not a lot to choose from. What they have is nice but there's only one small area where as clothing for older women is everywhere.

Myer in Rundle is pretty big, and usually pretty busy (especially around xmas and other holidays that require present buying). I have found some fantastic bargains during their end of season and boxing day sales (including a scanpan set for 70% off. Bargain!). I've also had to use their gift registry a few times for weddings over the years, and I've always found that really smooth. I go in, grab the list, pick a present and I'm done! I don't need to stress about what to get. The staff here are pretty helpful. They offer their help and leave me to browse.

It works out you get around 1% of your purchases back in Myer gift cards, which means you can easily earn around $200/year to spend at Myer. While this sounds good, recently I have noticed a problem, Myer just isn't competitive on price. Frequently I have asked them to price match (as per their rather large signs) but they have refused to do so, claiming that their competitors are selling below their cost price. It isn't even a small difference, I have frequently found them to be 20% more expensive than other retailers in the city (well, except for DJs). The end result is that I end up with a wallet so thick with gift cards that placing it in my back pocket gives me posture issues when seated. This is despite their near constant sales (start of season/mid season/end of season for every damned season). Occasionally there will be a sale that suddenly makes them competitive on something I actually want, but actually paying sticker price gives me a feeling similar to when I emailed a nice Nigerian man my bank details so I could claim my lost great uncle's fortune.

I asked her for some prices on the differing console packs that they had to offer. Although I could see that there were two console deals she, very sharply, told me that they were both the same. I walked out and bought my console from EB Games. I am happy to report that EB Games were extremely polite. Generally, my shopping experiences have been very decent at Big W, when making smaller purchases. It is really important to have polite, knowledgeable staff.

Big W have the best DVD bargains out of all the department stores. Some movies are as low as $5, which is always a plus in my books. They also have an awesome chocolate selection, I'm just stating the obvious. They stock these great collectable items that you can't find in other stores. Such as; Audrey Hepburn wall clocks, Marilyn Monroe Biscuit Tins, Guitar Biscuit Tins and Audrey Hepburn chocolate tins. They're pretty awesome, and make for a stellar birthday or christmas gift. I'm a fan of the boys t-shirt collection. I've bought lots of Star Wars and Marvel Comic t-shirts here, and I love them. Otherwise I'd say their clothing range is not the best. Full of discount shops - what's not to love!…read more I've usually been pretty lucky here, being able to pick up a bargain if I feel like a bit of 'pick me up' shopping. My mum and sister are both much taller than me, with long limbs and have found it more difficult to find items they like in their size. With the more recent addition of NoniB though, mum is much happier! There are a good mix of shops as well as options to eat or grab a drink. My favourite is Cherry Blossom sushi for a quick energy hit. All that shopping can require some refuelling. There are gift vouchers available and although nearly all the shops partake in the Harbour Town gift voucher system, there are a few where they aren't valid. There is a list available at the office, which could be worth checking if buying a gift voucher for someone who loves one particular store. My favourite store, Art to Art is there, closely followed by Novo Shoes that has some awesome shoe bargains regularly. A kind of weird tip I'd like to share is about walking along near the playground in the middle. I've been walking along window shopping, to only nearly twist my ankle and fall over. The playground area spreads out into the walk area and is totally soft and spongey! High heels sink in and the ground becomes inconsistent and difficult to walk on. Probably fine if wearing flats, but a bit disconcerting if not dangerous, if not!

Lost in the wilderness, this department store has quickly dwindled in life and breadth of product thanks to encroaching online shopping and competitive, low cost, reasonable quality department stores capturing their consumers. You can still find the rare brand name watch, pair of shoes on sale or makeup in store at a fair price and I love still wandering through the powder puff girls and clouds of perfume on the ground floor (where else can you get such an experience). However, the range, value and poor internal workings of the place mean that it is becoming a forgotten species. This DJs in particular has lost its way, shutting down their fine dining food court and imported produce section and putting on about 1 staff member for every 100 customers so you can never find a damn sales person when you need one (or they have no interest in serving you). Displays are cluttered and floors have been crammed with so many brands you can get in their original outlets or stores that the quality and health of the David Jones "premium brand department store" is lost. The only way I can see this species being brought back from near extinction is to re-instate and connect a fine dining food court to DJ's, add in fancy change rooms, high quality service, cut half their range so high end brands (that you can't get anywhere else) are available to touch and feel and completely refit the place to feel like one of those luxe shopping centres you get in Harrods, Dubai or HK. I hope to see the "day of old" department store return, but first it has to lift it's game.

Wow, I'm really going to go against the tide of popular opinion here but I just have to say it …read more.. David Jones just ain't what it used to be! While the service is ok and the products are alright, I think it's a sad indictment on what we see as good service these days when we expect dodgy service and are almost surprised when we don't receive it. I will admit the service is better than what you'll get in many places but I have a couple of really bad DJ's experiences. I have stood in the electrical department for longer than 30 minutes on two separate occasions waiting for someone to take my money so I could take home a new plasma tv. One guy approached me and told me he didn't deal with the particular brand I was after so he'd get someone else to help me. No-one came! A tip for you ... David Jones will price match so don't be fooled by the fact they seem more expensive than other places. They are as keen to make a sale as the next guy. Apologies for being a negative Nora but I just felt this page needed some balance.
