It was impossible to stand on the deck without the tips brushing my head and I am only 5'4". Abe (the owner) was very quick to call me back. He arrived on time the next day to give an estimate. I accepted his offer and he and his worker did an excellent job. A couple of the branches were at least 6" in diameter and were very high up. They worked efficiently and cleaned up. They listen to what I want done, provide advice if needed, safely remove limbs and even entire huge trees, all the time making sure that my home and surrounding structures are protected. They do an excellent job of clean up also. Their prices are more than reasonable, which is a rarity with tree services that provide this level of professionalism. Mr. Canales and his crew speak perfect English and are polite and accommodating. We have had 150' pine trees and giant leaning house threatening Magnolias removed by his crew without incident. I hired Jonathan Blake Spencer of Spencer Fence and Gates for a $9,000 fence installation, with the clear agreement it would be finished within one week--by Friday. What followed was a series of delays, excuses, and unprofessional conduct that left me out thousands of dollars and without a proper fence. Timeline of Events: Contract Signed: February 19, 2025, for one-week completion. Payments: $3,000 for posts and groundwork, $3,000 for pickets, fence door, and chicken wire, then $1,800 extra after he claimed a "rookie mistake" in his calculations. Excuses: After minimal progress, he cited a family emergency, transportation issues, and then asked for the rest of the $9,000 for truck repairs, even though the job was nowhere near finished. Refusal to Provide Documentation: Despite repeated requests, he never gave me receipts or showed his contractor's license. Aggressive Behavior: When I refused to pay more, Jonathan and his coworker became aggressive and refused to leave my property until I paid them more. Access Lost: His delays and misuse of the neighboring church's property led to us losing access, forcing me to hire another contractor under tight deadlines. No Warranty: The new contractor couldn't warranty the fence, since he was finishing someone else's incomplete work. I've now paid twice for a fence and still have no warranty. Ignored Offers to Help: I even offered to pick up the materials myself, rent a truck, or pay extra just to get the job finished. Jonathan refused, ghosted me, and ignored my calls for weeks, making it clear he'd spent my money elsewhere. I priced out all the materials myself and know what they should have cost. Shoddy Work: The new contractor confirmed that Jonathan's work was subpar and had to redo his repairs and posts. Selective Availability: Ironically, Jonathan was able to show up for unrelated moving work I hired him for, so he could get paid for his truck, but ignored all fence-related communication. As a disabled senior citizen, this ordeal caused significant financial and emotional stress for my family, and we had to upgrade our home security. I've reported Jonathan to Adult Protective Services and the police and am pursuing both a refund in court and a case for elder abuse. Couldn't have made a better decision, the job was very tricky & he brought in ramps etc. to make sure nothing was damaged on property, even filled in some water erosion areas for me while working that had nothing to do with the stumps! Couldn't be more pleased with the leveling of area and clean up of work, bid was a good price, yard looks great now! Gene was great answering all my questions, and we'll hire him again!
