They were also really helpful in explaining the menu and how you can get a chug (smaller size) if you don't want the full serving. We wanted to try everything. Our main comment and unfortunately it affected our experience a lot is that smoking is allowed inside. This is not uncommon for bars in this country but they could have provided a pleasant experience for everyone and not just some by not allowing smoking inside. We smelled like smoke and our drinks came with a side of ill health. Other than that, we loved this bar and maybe it won't be raining next time so we can sit outside (where people still smoke but the smoke has somewhere to go).

Super Duper bar ! I stayed in Hamburg for 2 nights and…read more...ended up there twice :D In the speakeasy style, you'll find amazing tequila-based cocktails made by the blond girl who's probably one of the best bartender I met so far. Genuine atmosphere, a bit dark, just what's needed, with cool music and people. I tried their special menu which basically is a 6-course cocktail tasting (no worries, they all come into the "Chug" size glass;)) through which you'll discover their signature recipes. Pretty cool stuff, I recommend it for sure. Prices are very ok and staff is super friendly! I loved it and will go back next time I'm in the city !

My chain-smoking friends were happy the smoking ban did not apply here. The caipirinhas came with glow sticks, but were not really up to it. They were stretched with too much lime juice to turn them into long drinks - more lemsip than cocktail. What a shame. I would definitely go again, but try another drink.

I had a great time watching the Germany vs. Argentina World Cup quarter-final here the other day. At the end of the game they played a succession of World Cup songs - a favourite of mine was "Don't Cry for Me Maradona" to the tune of "Don't Cry for Me Argentina". Also the ubiquitous "Schland Oh Schland" to the tune of the Eurovision song by Lena. One of my friends used to work here, and so we get excellent service and cheap prices. After the game you just walk outside and are already on Spielbudenplatz to join the Reeperbahn party, so all in all it was a perfectly excellent place to watch the Germany game. All that being said, it does essentially feel like a pre-theatre bar, being part of the theatre as it is, and so without a particular reason/event to go there I'd personally probably stick to more traditional bars.

I'm not 100% sure if the translation Google was providing of their menu were accurate or just interesting interpretations, but the vegetarian menu on their website came out translated as "For the flower understanders" - Okay, either way I'm in. It was a busy time in Hamburg in the middle of the Reeperbahn festival so we were worried about getting a table, but we were seated immediately upon arrival. Our server accomodated our English and even provided a menu in English. My sun had a mushroom pasta, which he thought was good, and I had a schnitzel dish made with a celery-based "meat." Now that didn't necessarily "sound" good, but it really was a thoughtful offering to give us a schnitzel-like experience in Germany. The potatoes it was served with were well cooked and added a nice heartiness to the meal. They also have a pea soup, usually served with meat but which can be prepared vegan upon request. Freudenhaus is on a side street, a short block off of the main Reeperbahn Rd. So, very easy to get to. If you're looking for authentic German food with vegetarian options, this is a great place to go.

The vegetables were perfectly tender-crisp, and the meat was tender. The small salad is quite large. This seems to be one of the classier places in St. Pauli, but still has naughty artwork on the wall and cheeky items on the menu. If I returned to St. Pauli I would come here again.
