He was very supportive of my singing journey, and I always look forward to our lessons together. While I am not exactly concert ready, I can see drastic improvement in my vocal ability and confidence in my way forward. Highly recommend. He is extremely competent with students new to lessons, as he is very able to convey complex theory or techniques regardless of where my level of knowledge with the topic is at. On multiple occasions he has also helped me game out the direction I want to go with my singing to the point that I believe he would recommend holding off lessons if he didn't think they were worthwhile to me. This is probably an uncommon level of integrity in a difficult business.

Each class is a step forward and we always feel like we've worked hard and have more to work on, and most importantly that we make progress every week. She has really helped me find a voice I'm happy with and to keep working on the belty rock sound I really want. We're writing our own songs, singing in public venues and excited about the future of our singing 'career' and it's all been because of her support. She's super professional and knowledgeable and answers all my questions honestly and thoughtfully and continues to research and study her field so there's so much to learn from her. At the same time, she's such a kind, welcoming and funny person that we've come to regard her as a wonderful friend too! Love our lessons and will keep coming to her as long as we are able to!

I've been working with her for over a year and half now, and I started from *nothing*. With Kristina's help, my voice has gotten stronger, I've gained so much more confidence in my abilities, and I've learned so much about technique (but in a really simple, straightforward, do-able way). If you have even the slightest nervousness about voice lessons, Kristina is your teacher. She never makes you sing alone unless you want to! And between all of the fun exercises, it's a very gradual, very non-intimidating path towards singing solo *if you want to.* I know she has pro-level students as well, but Kristina is definitely beginner-friendly. Part of what drew me to Kristina was her vibe. She's, simply stated, The Coolest Person Ever. She's a little bit rock-and-roll, a little bit San Francisco, and a whole lot of joyful, hilarious, knowledgable, and accepting. Our lessons are very healing to me: we warm up with humming and chanting for a very somatic, embodied practice that does wonders for my nervous system. I could go on about Kristina forever, but the last thing I'll say for now is: Just listen to her music. Listen to her voice. Kristina's money is where her vocal chords are! She's a powerhouse singer with a skill level second to none. Her level of artistry is mind-bending in and of itself -- and learning from somebody like that is extraordinarily special. Thank you for everything, Kristina!

Throat problems, neck issues, sinus infections... what a wreck! I did a lot of "The Google" and found Kimberly's unique credentials that though "all is not lost!" I left my first lesson frustrated and still fearful. This had nothing to do with Kimberley who was kind and patient, I just had my own brain compartments working to sabotage me. I noodled (thought) a lot and realized I needed to get over myself and those fears and went for my 2nd lesson At that lesson, I told Kimberely how I felt about the first lesson. She carefully listened, was thoughtful and we worked out a game plan. I left that lesson with confidence that I could get back to where I had been, and significantly improve as I never had "real" voice lessons beyond a college class. Kimberly teaches that it's not just about the voice but the mind/body connection (OMG I just went all metaphysical)I am excited to continue this trek, and if (IF) I ever get married again, I might just darn well sing at it.

Update in response to the owner's reply: To San Diego Music…read moreAnd Art owner/contact Max: Your response actually reinforces the reason I left this review. Your instructor, Olga, publicly criticized my child in front of other parents and children. My child is neurodivergent. At times, he may have difficulty following directions, transitioning, or completing more complex instructions. That does not give any instructor the right to shame, embarrass, or publicly criticize a child. What is especially unacceptable is that your staff was already aware of my child's needs. Instead of speaking with me privately, giving me a warning, or trying to understand what support he might need, Olga chose to criticize him in front of others. When I brought this concern to you, I expected the owner to at least investigate what happened and listen to both sides. Instead, you immediately defended your instructor and treated my child as if he were simply the problem. You did not appear interested in understanding what actually happened or in finding a constructive solution. Instead, you joined in criticizing my child. Then, rather than addressing my concern about how your instructor handled the situation, you suspended my child's classes for an entire month. Children--especially neurodivergent children--deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. If a child is struggling to follow instructions, the appropriate response is to communicate privately with the parent and work toward a solution, not publicly embarrass the child and then blame him when the parent raises concerns. Parents should know how situations like this may be handled here before deciding whether this is the right environment for their child.

I was trying to transition from an instrumentalist (guitar) to a singer/songwriter. I wanted to sing, but was very apprehensive of my vocals so I took the step to seek professional instruction. I was initially wary of the going rates for one-on-one vocal/music instruction so I chose very carefully based on what information I could get about a handful of instructors in the San Diego area. Vanessa's web presence was unique and personal; describing her aspirations, influences, and credentials in a very stylized way. I liked her style instantly and felt this was someone I could relate to. What you will find with Vanessa is someone that is keen on picking up on the nuances of her students ways of learning, and providing undivided attention and encouragement. There is nothing textbook about her teaching style, however her knowledge is solid and deep. Rather a mentor with the best advice and encouragement; exactly what I was looking for. I leave every session feeling more confident with added suggestions/tasks on how to progress. She has encouraged me to read insightful books on songwriting and musicianship, critiqued and improved my own work, paid close attention to the genres and styles that I wanted to attain, vocal exercises and all that, but most of all she has the patience of a saint and a desire to truly provide paths to my improvement. Beyond vocal work, I also wanted to patch up my music theory and decided to do this while taking on the piano (knowing that I could transfer the same concepts over to my guitar). Vanessa is an excellent and accomplished pianist and songwriter with a free flowing style. I already have the dexterity and knew the direction where I wanted my piano music to go so we were quickly able to get through my gaps of theory, apply it, understand, make it click.. and improve my songwriting through the piano and while on my own into the guitar. To mention, I've also sent my daughter to her for instruction and musical awareness whenever I couldn't make a session or had extra budget. I didn't ask her specifically to teach piano but to help me encourage music in general with her. After these sessions my daughter comes home and thoughtfully plays on the keyboard, experimenting, starting to put together melodies. When/if she decides she wants consistent weekly instruction I trust Vanessa to be a good choice. Vanessa is a bright star above a sea of options.
