Thier are lots of sun lounges and a large outdoor grassed area for sunbathing. It's vesy well maintained establishment including very goog and clean changing rooms. Thier are also a few food bars and watering holes to choice form also the prices are very reasonable, so no need to haul arround packed lunches for all the family. The family day cards are very well priced, i think we only payed 11 Euro's for the day. Parking thier in high season is a bit arwquad due the the populaty of this place, they have a very large overfill carpark which is a 5 mins walk away.

I liked their locker system with RF cards and bracelet-keys. After payment at the reception, a plastic card with an RF chip was given to me. After I left the changing-room, I checked for the number of my locker on one of the several card readers on the walls. By placing the card near the display, it showed me which locker I could use. Very user friendly! After I found out my locker and stored my belongings in, I placed my RF card in a special slot inside the locker. After closing the door I removed the bracelet that was attached to the outside. After strapping it to my wrist I could perfectly see my locker number. To open, it's just a matter of reversing. After I had a shower, I placed the bracelet on the special attachment on the door, and voilá! The locker opened!!! Personally, I enjoyed my time there. One of slides did give me a fright thought. A piece of advice: hold your breath and brace yourselves. Five stars for the spotless facilities. Everywhere was clean and in good condition. I think they have fair prices for adults but not for children. If you have a lot of kids pack your wallet.

The whole place has recently been refurbished and is beautifully decorated and spotless clean. We had food at the bar by the side of the pool, simple and healthy salads and soups priced reasonably. But also soft drinks, beers and cocktails are available. The staff were super nice! It wasn't too crowded. Basically amazing day to chill out and feel rejuvenated!

But there is some silver lining to that grey cloud - in the shape of the city's longest swimming lanes, as well as very generous opening hours. That means if your goal isn't relaxation or fun, but the sport aspect of swimming you might find what you're looking for at Alsterschwimmhalle rather than some of the more modern water parks. Just one final piece of advice: avoid visiting in the evenings, for the water and the changing rooms tend not to be in the cleanliest of states after a hard day's abuse. Fans of late sixties/early seventies architecture should also get a kick out of the avantgarde concrete roof structure and overlook the half-hearted renovation attempts the building is littered with.

Yes it's low-fi and on Sunday's it's pretty busy but It's water, its deep and it's got long lanes so as long as you aren't a clear water Charlie you should find it fine.

Of course there is a bistro inside and of course the is a sauna. Also there is a converence room and a tennis court (i think badminon to, but dont nail me on that). EUR2.70 to get in, which gets you some space to lie in the sun, and as much lake-water as you can drink, which in my case was a fair bit. It's pretty deep on the one side, but there is a kids area with sand which is shallow on the other - a few too many screaming kids for my liking, but they're German, so not all that annoying. It also boasts clean water (freezing) shower, some warm shower blocks, a beer garden etc. Good day out, and quite fun to swim in a lake with weed and mud!

The pirate ship and the Hansa theme, two separate pools for families and adults, the size of the pool, the slide with a timer (!), jacuzzi, and so on. I'm not even nearly as squeamish about the "European-random-naked-people-thing" anymore, so that's not much of a worry. ---------- Original review: I admit - I'm biased towards this place since I effectively used it as my bath/shower for a period of two weeks last Winter when our household heating system broke down. But it's a better excuse than any! Holthusen-Bad (or Kellinghusen-Bad) is one of my favorite places to relax. I love swimming during all seasons and Holthusen-Bad offers a nice, affordable range of selections for swimmers and loungers of all persuasions. They have a large heated pool, a wave pool, an outdoor pool and a super-heated mini-pool for relaxing. It costs about 6eu for an hour and a half. I like that they offer private dressing compartments, which is not something all European spas actually have. If you're not into the European-random-naked-people-thing, Holthusen-Bad offers small compartments in the dressing area. Classy!

The pool was packed out with parents & toddlers doing swim class the whole time I was there, so I didn't get to swim, unfortunately. But listen, here's the deal. There's definitely a 'bath culture' in effect in Germany, & people bring a big rucksack of stuff like bathrobes, extra hand towels for sitting on, fancy sandals, etc. I showed up with just a regular towel & swimtrunks & it was clear I didn't know what was up. Also it slowly dawned on me that I represented the sum total of body hair & tattoos in the entire building, & after only chill positive experiences at spa & bath facilities on the West Coast, clothed & otherwise, I started to catch some serious hateful vibes from the well-heeled Germans around me, culminating in this one couple making a huge production of washing off the bench where I'd just been sitting. At that point I left, & wandered off premises into this ridiculous shopping district for affluent white people, & suddenly it all made sense. So in short, if you're the right kind of person, this place will be great. Also it might be helpful to know that they don't accept Visa. CR
