I stopped by Gopher Ace Hardware specifically looking for gopher traps - seemed fitting, right?…read moreAfter all, this is the Gopher State! Unfortunately, they didn't have any in stock that day, despite my hopeful pun. But what really stood out was the effort the staff put in to help me. They didn't send me on my way; instead, they took the time to check the back room, just in case there was leftover stock that hadn't made it to the floor. When that didn't pan out, they didn't stop there. One of the employees pulled up their online inventory system to see if it was available or if other locations might have them. This kind of proactive service is what makes Ace feel like the helpful neighborhood hardware store it's known to be. Even though I left empty-handed this time, I left with a positive impression. As you can see from my photo of the store interior, their shelves are well-stocked with a wide variety of hardware and tools. While I didn't get what I came for this visit, it's clear that on most days they'd have what I need--or at least be willing to help me find it.

How serendipitous that this location had opened just a couple of weeks before my first trip to the town of Excelsior! Luckily, the family members who had accompanied me were patient enough to wait while I examined the goodies in this bright, clean space. Excelsior is more than decor, antiques, and fashion, and this store is a great reason to male a trip.

I happily joined to live vicariously through her life successes. And damn! I was blown away by how many beautiful fixtures there are! There was so much that was beyond my imagination. There were modern, vintage, mid-century, and luxury lights. Our style is mid-century modern, and we picked out a few that fit that aesthetic. Though, I would say there were just a few lights in the style. They were also somewhat limited on lighted overhead fan choices. But the best part was the customer service. We were able to build a "wish list" with an associate, where every item that piqued our interested was populated under her new account. There, you can review all of the details and customizations (like color, type of lighting, finish etc). There also seemed to be a lot on sale which was a treat!
