I had a very frustrating and disappointing experience with this business. Their website clearly states that furniture and large items should be emailed ahead of time for approval, so I followed those instructions exactly. I emailed Jes with multiple pictures of a storage cabinet and end table - both in very nice condition - and asked, "do you take pieces like this?" Her response was a simple "yes." Based on that confirmation, my husband and I went through the trouble of getting a trailer, loading the items, and even taking time off work to deliver them. However, when we arrived, Jes refused to accept the pieces. When my husband showed her the email where she had said "yes," she claimed that she didn't mean "yes" she would take those exact items. When pressed, she admitted she "probably should have been more clear." This was extremely unprofessional and a complete waste of our time, effort, and money. To make matters worse, she also complained that our trailer was blocking her alleyway, despite the fact that we were there because of her prior approval, and had pulled the trailer over far enough that cars could get by. Clear communication, respect and accountability are basic expectations in any business, and this experience fell far short. I will never be returning and would caution others to think twice before relying on their process. read more

My favorite thrift/vintage/used store anywhere! At least 50% of my closet is from here and I have found the best pieces over the years for my home. They are selective with the clothing and furniture, so it's not as hard to look through as some stores that take too many items and pack the shelves. read more

I'm going to give a 4-star review in efforts to support local business. As we were visiting Rochester, we decided to explore the town on foot. Somehow we ended up here because it was a recommended "antique store"? Not what I would personally consider an antique store but nice enough, nonetheless. They had some beautiful options for furniture / lamps / etc. Not necessarily the styles we were looking for but I can absolutely appreciate the selection of what they had available. The staff was nice enough. They were not pushy and didn't make us feel like we were at a used car lot. I consigned with Kismet in March 2024. I was told my items would be for sale for 90 days and given the option to pick up the unsold items. I counted out 90 days on my calendar and wrote in my pick up date for July 17. When I went to pick up my money and unsold items on July 17 I was told my items needed to be picked up by the 15th of the month even if it wasn't 90 days. No one told me this in March. I had 6 pieces of very nice clothing that were donated without my consent. Donating is great and I know my things went to a great cause but there were a couple of the things that I would have liked back. It's a nice store but the communication when consigning was very poor. read more

Make no mistake....if you are a very small sized woman on the chic side of life then this is your mecca! Upscale designer duds in sizes zero to six abound. If you like very conservative to middle of the road sensibilities then you will love this store. I guess I am just a little too funky boho for this establishment. If I lived in the area and were furnishing a place then I might hit this place up for some accessories or furniture...but for clothing I think I would never find my size or my style here. I will say that the layout and design are very upscale but nobody came forward to help.......it might have been due to the fact that they determined I wasn't going to be a customer based on appearance. I love Kismet Consignment Fashion & Home Decor! They have 3 beautifully laid out stores and extremely knowledgable and helpful staff. I have bought clothing, purses, shoes, jewelry, furniture, and accent pieces there. I have also brought in all of the above items to be consigned. It is such a fun and easy way to make extra money. I was at Kismet today for the first time. I arrived at 3:55 pm and was greeted at the door by an employee who said they closed in 5 minutes. The store was full of shoppers and they preceded to turn the lights off in several areas as people were shopping. This to me is very bad pr and I will not be returning to shop here. I moved to Rochester five years ago and have made a weekly visit to Kismet my Saturday morning treat. I have furnished my apartment with items from the home store as well as buying all my clothes there as well. The atmosphere is amazing from the friendly staff, great music and a huge selection of clothes at great prices. I have been very satisfied with the buying and selling experience. Quite frankly I am shocked by the negative reviews i just read here because Kismet is my favorite consignment store of all time. I have been shopping here for about 6 years and have found that the owner has that rare genius of being able to put together divergent funky home goods in an avant guard appealing way. I almost never walk in without walking out with one more desirable find. I have also found the staff to be friendly and always helpful when I have a question. Being a consignment store with one of a kind merchandise, the staff does as it should, let customers wander and polk through the many layers of unique goods undisturbed. Over the years I have seen the staff turn away potential consignments that just don't sell. Personally I am grateful that they have a critical eye and limit the merchandise to what is marketable. In fact, after a short length of time if an item doesn't sell, they begin to mark it down. If it still doesn't move, they ask the consignor to take it back. This keeps Kismet merchandise fresh! If I could give Kismet 10 stars, I would. I love this store! As an aside, the owner has been mixing in some new trendy moderately priced furniture the last few years. She felt their was an unmet niche market for urban sophisticate and she is offering some interesting choices. read more

I've been to Kismet a few times and have never found anything. The attitude is kind of snooty and unappealing. I don't know why the owners would want to perpetuate such an attitude in a small shop in a small town. Recently we took a corner hutch in to see if they would take it. The woman announced with a great flourish "no!". It was kind of so overly dramatic that I almost laughed. Ok, I get it; this is not the kind of piece you think would be appropriate for your store. But really, couldn't you have said something like: No, I'm sorry; we just don't have much luck with pieces like that, but thank you for bringing it in. I hope to see you again some other time. Actually, this is the kind of thing we are looking for _______. " Or something like that? I mean really; what is the point of being so overly snotty. I would never go there again and hope to tell others of my experience. read more
